Process of making a stool
Our process of making a four-legged stool began with the preparation of the cut list. In the
cut list we have written the material we were planning to use and the dimensions of the stool.
Then, we drew the template on a piece of plywood.
So, at first, we were given the large piece of timber wood and then we proceeded to cut the
piece according to the measurement of legs. We then cut the legs of stool with the help of
Mitre saw. Afterwards, with the help of measuring tape and 90 angle scale we measured the
points by which the legs of each side of the wood had to be joined. With the help of the band
saw machine and Mitre saw we cut the points of intersection and then with the help of the
hand scraper we smoothened the surface of the intersection and after that we joined the two
pieces of wood together to make a cross section of legs. We repeated this process twice to
make two sets of the legs.
After the process of making the legs was completed, we took a thick piece of wood and made
a ‘compass’ with the help of small piece of wood and a nail, we cut the circle with a diameter
of 19 inches top of the stool. Then we nailed and glued the seat and legs together.
We then took the measurements with the help of scale to make the footrest of the stool and to
give more support to it.
We also added an extra support which is placed between both the legs. After that with the
help of stationary planer we cut a thin layer of wood to be pasted on the edge of the circle, it
has been pasted by using fevicol adhesive and nails.
We then filled the spaces which were left at the time of joining the parts of wood with a
mixture of wood powder and fevicol. Once all the spaces were filled, we started the process
of finishing with the help of machine called wood sander.
To polish and finish the stool, we used varnish and lacquer.
Tools which are used while making the stool are:
   1. Miter saw – it is used for cutting and moulding of the wood.
2. Hand saw – it is used to cut pieces of wood into different shapes.
3. Parallel motion ruler – it is used to draw parallel lines and measurement.
4. Hand scarpers – it is used to scrape wood or other material from the surface.
5. Hammer – it is used for finishing, nail pulling and shaping material.
6. Wood sander – it is used for smoothing and cleaning a surface.
7. Band saw – it is used in woodworking and lumbering but may cut a variety of
   materials.
8. Stationery planer – it is used to trim thickness of the wood.
9. Nails – it is used for fastening one or more objects to each other.
10. Table saw – it helps in making accurate and precise cuts on woods
11. Clamp – it temporarily holds work securely in place.
12. Wood holder – it is used to safely hold a cutting tool in precise tool.
13. Right Angle Scale: Used to accurately draw lines at an angle of 90 degrees
