Chapter 1

‫א ֶפְּטרוֹס ְשִׁליַח ֵישׁוַּע ַהָמִּשׁיַח‬ 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,

to the elect who are sojourners of
‫טוֹס ָגַּלְטָיא‬ְ‫ֶאל־תּוְֹשֵׁבי ְתפוּצוֹת ָפּ‬ the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia,
‫ָיא׃‬ְ‫ַקפּוְֹדִקָיּא ַאְסָיא וִּביִתי‬ Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
‫ב ַהִנְּבָח ִרים ִמַדַּעת ֱאׂלִהים ָהָאב ִמֶקֶּדם‬ 2 according to the foreknowledge of
God the Father, in sanctification of
‫ְבִּקדּוּשׁ ָהרוַּח ֶאל־ִמְשַׁמַעת ֵישׁוַּע‬ the Spirit, unto obedience and
‫ַהָמִּשׁיַח ְוֶאל־ַהָזַּית ָדּמוֹ ֶחֶסד ְוָשׁלוֹם‬ sprinkling of the blood of Jesus
‫ְלַמְכִבּיר ִיְהיוּ ָלֶכם׃‬ Christ: Grace to you and peace be
multiplied.
‫וּ ֵישׁוַּע‬‫י‬ֵ‫ָבּרוּ ָהֱאׂלִהים ֲאִבי ֲאׂד‬ ‫ג‬ 3 Blessed be the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, who
‫ַהָמִּשׁיַח ֲאֶשׁר ְכּׂרב ַרֲחָמיו ָחַזר ְוָיַלד‬ according to his great mercy begat
‫וּ ְלִתְק ָוה ַחָיּה ַבֲּהָקַמת ֵישׁוַּע‬‫אָת‬
ׂ us again unto a living hope by the
‫ַהָמִּשׁיַח ֵמִעם ַהֵמִּתים׃‬ resurrection of Jesus Christ from
the dead,
‫ֲחָלה ֲאֶשׁר ׂלא ִתָּשֵּׁחת ְוׂלא ְתׂגַאל‬ַ‫ְל‬ ‫ד‬ 4 unto an inheritance incorruptible,
and undefiled, and that fadeth not
‫ה ָלֶכם ַבָּשָּׁמִים׃‬ָ‫ְוׂלא ִתֹבּל ַהְצּפוּ‬ away, reserved in heaven for you,
‫ה ַהְשּׁמוּ ִרים ְבּׂעז ֱאׂלִהים ַעל־ַיד‬ 5 who by the power of God are
guarded through faith unto a
‫ה ַלְתּשׁוָּעה ָהֲעִתיָדה ְלִהָגּלוֹת‬ָ‫ָהֱאמוּ‬ salvation ready to be revealed in
‫ְלֶעת־ֵקץ׃‬ the last time.
 ‫ֲאֶשׁר ָבּהּ ָתּ ִגילוּ ַאֶתּם ַהִמְּתַעְצִּבים‬ ‫ו‬ 6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though
now for a little while, if need be, ye
‫וֹת׃‬‫שׁ‬
ׂ ‫סת‬ ּׂ ‫ַעָתּה ְמַעט ְלִפי ַהּׂצֶר ְבַּמ‬ have been put to grief in manifold
trials,
‫ְתֶכם ַהְמֻזָקָּקה‬ַ‫ְלַמַען ִתָּמֵּצא ֱאמוּ‬ ‫ז‬ 7 that the proof of your faith, being
more precious than gold that
‫אֵבד ַהָצּרוּף‬
ׂ ‫ְיָק ָרה ַה ְרֵבּה ִמן־ַהָזָּהב ָה‬ perisheth though it is proved by
‫ָבֵּאשׁ ִלְתִהָלּה וְּלָכבוֹד וְּלִתְפֶאֶרת‬ fire, may be found unto praise and
‫ְבִּהְתַגּלּוֹת ֵישׁוַּע ַהָמִּשׁיַח׃‬ glory and honor at the revelation of
Jesus Christ:
‫ח ֲאֶשׁר ֲאַהְבֶתּם ְוׂלא ְרִאיֶתם ַוֲאֶשׁר‬ 8 whom not having seen ye love; on
whom, though now ye see him not,
‫ֶכם ׂרִאים אׂתוֹ‬ְ‫וּ בוֹ ַעָתּה ְוֵאי‬‫ַתֲּאִמי‬ yet believing, ye rejoice greatly
‫וְּבֵכן ָתּ ִגילוּ ְבִּשְׂמָחה ְמׂפָאָרה ָעְצָמה‬ with joy unspeakable and full of
‫ִמַסֵּפּר׃‬ glory:

‫ְתֶכם ְתּשׁוָּעה‬ַ‫ט ָלֵשׂאת ֵעֶקב ֱאמוּ‬ 9 receiving the end of your faith,
even the salvation of your souls.
‫שֵׁתיֶכם׃‬
ׂ ‫ְפ‬ַ‫ְל‬
‫ֵאת ַהְתּשׁוָּעה ֲאֶשׁר ָעֶליָה ָחְקרוּ‬ ‫י‬ 10 Concerning which salvation the
prophets sought and searched
‫ְוָד ְרשׁוּ ַהְנִּביִאים ַהִנְּבִּאים ַעל־ַהֶחֶסד‬ diligently, who prophesied of the
‫ַהָצּפוּן ָלֶכם׃‬ grace that should come unto you:
‫קר ָלַדַעת ַמה־זּוּ ְוֵאי־זוּ ָהֵעת ֲאֶשׁר‬
ׂ ‫יא ַלְח‬ 11 searching what time or what
manner of time the Spirit of Christ
‫הוִֹדיָעהּ רוַּח ַהָמִּשׁיַח ֲאֶשׁר ְבִּק ְרָבּם‬ which was in them did point unto,
‫ְבַּה ִגּידוֹ ֵמׂראשׁ ֵאת ִענּוֵּיי ַהָמִּשׁיַח‬ when it testified beforehand the
‫ְוֶאת־ַה ְגֻּדלּוֹת ֲאֶשׁר ַאֲחֵריֶהם׃‬ sufferings of Christ, and the
glories that should follow them.
‫ְפָשׁם ִכּי‬ַ‫ ְגָלה ָלֶהם ֲאֶשׁר ׂלא ְל‬ִ‫יב ְו‬ 12 To whom it was revealed, that not
unto themselves, but unto you, did
‫וּ ָהיוּ ְמַשְׁמִּשׁים ַבְּדָּב ִרים ָהֵהם‬‫ִאם־ָל‬ they minister these things, which
‫ֲאֶשׁר ֻהַגּד ָלֶכם ַעָתּה ַעל־ִפּי‬ now have been announced unto
‫קֶדשׁ‬ּׂ ‫ַהְמַבְשׂ ִרים ֶאְתֶכם ְבּרוַּח ַה‬ you through them that preached
the gospel unto you by the Holy
‫ַהָשּׁלוַּח ִמָשַּׁמִים ְדָּב ִרים ֲאֶשׁר ַמְלֲאֵכי‬ Spirit sent forth from heaven;
‫ֱאׂלִהים ָחְמדוּ ְלַהְשִׁקיף ֶאל־תּוָֹכם׃‬ which things angel desire to look
into.
 ‫י ִשְׂכְלֶכם ִהְתעוֲֹררוּ‬ֵ‫יג ָלֵכן ִח ְגרוּ ָמְת‬ 13 Wherefore girding up the loins of
your mind, be sober and set your
‫ְפְשֶׁכם ַלֶחֶסד ֲאֶשׁר‬ַ‫ְוַקוּוּ ְבָכל־‬ hope perfectly on the grace that is
‫ְיבוֲֹאֶכם ְבִּהְתַגּלּוֹת ֵישׁוַּע ַהָמִּשׁיַח׃‬ to be brought unto you at the
revelation of Jesus Christ;
‫ֲהגוּ ַכַּתֲּאוֹת‬ַ‫י ִמְשַׁמַעת ַאל־ִתְּת‬ֵ‫יד ִכְּב‬ 14 as children of obedience, not
fashioning yourselves according to
‫ֲאֶשׁר ִהְתַא ִוּיֶתם ְבּעוֹד ֱהיוְֹתֶכם‬ your former lusts in the time of
‫ִבְּבִלי־ָדַעת׃‬ your ignorance:
‫טו ִכּי ִאם־ֱהיוּ ְקׂדִשׁים ְבָּכל־ַדּ ְרֵכיֶכם‬ 15 but like as he who called you is
holy, be ye yourselves also holy in
‫קֵרא ֶאְתֶכם ָקדוֹשׁ הוּא׃‬ ּׂ ‫ַכֲּאֶשׁר ַה‬ all manner of living;
‫טז ִכּי ַעל־ֵכּן ָכּתוּב ִוְהִייֶתם ְקׂדִשׁים ִכּי‬ 16 because it is written, Ye shall be
holy; for I am holy.
‫י׃‬ִ ‫ָקדוֹשׁ ָא‬
‫שֵׁפט‬ּׂ ‫יז ְוִאם־ִתְּק ְראוּ ָאב ֵלאׂלִהים ַה‬ 17 And if ye call on him as Father,
who without respect of persons
‫ים ְכַּמַעְלֵלי ִאישׁ ָוִאישׁ‬ִ‫ִבְּבִלי ַמשּׂא ָפ‬ judgeth according to each man’s
‫א ְבִי ְרָאה ִבּיֵמי ְמגוּ ֵריֶכם׃‬ָ‫ִהְתַהְלּכוּ־‬ work, pass the time of your
sojourning in fear:
‫י ֶשּׁׂיְדִעים ַאֶתּם ִכּי ׂלא־ְבָדָבר‬ֵ‫יח ִמְפּ‬ 18 knowing that ye were redeemed,
not with corruptible things, with
‫ְפֵדּיֶתם‬ִ ‫ְפָסד ׂלא ְבֶכֶסף ְוׂלא ְבָזָהב‬ִ silver or gold, from your vain
‫ַחְלֶתּם ֵמֵאת‬ְ‫ִמֶדּ ֶר ַהְבְלֶכם ֲאֶשׁר ָה‬ manner of life handed down from
‫ֲאבוֵֹתיֶכם׃‬ your fathers;

‫יט ִכּי ִאם־ְבַּדם ָיָקר ֶשׁל־ֶשׂה ָתִמים‬ 19 but with precious blood, as of a
lamb without spot, even the blood
‫ֶשֵׁאין־בּוֹ מוּם ְבַּדם ַהָמִּשׁיַח׃‬ of Christ:
‫י מוְֹסדוֹת ֵתֵּבל‬ֵ‫כ ַהנּוָֹדע ֵמׂראשׁ ִלְפ‬ 20 who was foreknown indeed before
the foundation of the world, but
‫ֶכם׃‬ְ‫ ְגָלה ְבַּאֲח ִרית ַהָיִּמים ְלַמַע‬ִ‫ְו‬ was manifested at the end of times
for your sake,
‫ים ַעל־ִפּיו ֵבּאׂלִהים ֲאֶשׁר‬ִ ‫כא ַהַמֲּאִמי‬ 21 who through him are believers in
God, that raised him from the
‫אתוֹ ֵמִעם ַהֵמִּתים ַוִיֶּתּן־לוֹ‬ׂ ‫ֵהִקים‬ dead, and gave him glory; so that
‫ְתֶכם ִתְּקָוה‬ַ‫ָכבוֹד ְלַמַען ֱהיוֹת ֱאמוּ‬ your faith and hope might be in
‫ֵלאׂלִהים׃‬ God.
 ‫שֵׁתיֶכם ַעל־ְיֵדי ָהרוַּח‬
ׂ ‫ְפ‬ַ‫כב ַזכּוּ ֶאת־‬ 22 Seeing ye have purified your souls
in your obedience to the truth unto
‫ְבָּשְׁמֲעֶכם ְבּקוֹל ָהֱאֶמת ְלַאֲחָוה ֶשֵׁאין‬ unfeigned love of the brethren,
‫ָֻפּה ַוֲאַהְבֶתּם ִאישׁ ֶאת־ ֵרֵעהוּ‬‫ָבּהּ ֲח‬ love one another from the heart
‫ַאֲהָבה ַעָזּה ְבֵּלב ָטהוֹר׃‬ fervently:

‫ְשָׁחת ִכּי‬ִ ‫ית ׂלא ִמֶזּ ַרע‬ִ‫כג ַכּנּוָֹלִדים ֵשׁ‬ 23 having been begotten again, not of
corruptible seed, but of
‫ִאם־ִמֶזַּרע ׂלא ִיָשֵּׁחת ַבַּמֲּאָמר‬ incorruptible, through the word of
‫ֶשׁל־ֱאׂלִהים ַהַחי ְוַהַקָּיּם ְלעוָֹלם׃‬ God, which liveth and abideth.
‫כד ִכּי ָכל־ָבָּשׂר ָחִציר ְוָכל־ְכּבוֹד ִאישׁ‬ 24 For, All flesh is as grass, And all
the glory thereof as the flower of
‫ְכִּציץ ַהָשֶׂדה׃‬ grass. The grass withereth, and
the flower falleth:
‫ֵבל ִציץ וְּדַבר ְיהָוֹה ָיקוּם‬ָ ‫כה ָיֵבשׁ ָחִציר‬ 25 But the word of the Lord abideth
for ever. And this is the word of
‫ְלעוָֹלם ְוהוּא ַהָדָּבר ֲאֶשׁר ֻבַּשׂר ָלֶכם׃‬ good tidings which was preached
unto you.

Chapter 2

‫א ְוַעָתּה ָהִסירוּ ֵמִאְתֶּכם ָכּל־ ֶרַשׁע‬ 1 Putting away therefore all

wickedness, and all guile, and
‫ָאה ְוָכל־ָלשׁוֹן‬ְ‫ָֻפּה ְוִק‬‫ְוָכל־ִמ ְרָמה ַוֲח‬ hypocrisies, and envies, and all
‫ָרע׃‬ evil speakings,
‫וָֹלדוּ ִהְתַאוּוּ‬ ‫וְּכׂעֲלִלים ֲאֶשׁר ִמָקּרוֹב‬ ‫ב‬ 2 as newborn babes, long for the
spiritual milk which is without
‫ֶלָחָלב ַהִשְׂכִלי ְוַהָזּ ְלַמַען ִתּ ְגְדּלוּ־בוֹ‬ guile, that ye may grow thereby
‫ַלְתּשׁוָּעה׃‬ unto salvation;
‫ם ְטַעְמֶתּם ִכּי־טוֹב ָהָאדוֹן׃‬ָ‫ִאם־ָאְמ‬ ‫ג‬ 3 if ye have tasted that the Lord is
gracious:
‫ַגְּשֶׁתּם ֵאָליו ֶאל־ֶאֶבן ַחָיּה ֲאֶשׁר‬ִ ‫ד ֲאֶשׁר‬ 4 unto whom coming, a living stone,
rejected indeed of men, but with
‫ְבָחָרה‬ִ ‫י־ָהָאָדם ְוִהיא‬ֵ‫ָמֲאסוּ־ָבהּ ְבּ‬ God elect, precious,
‫ִויָקָרה ֵלאׂלִהים׃‬
‫יֶתם‬ֵ‫ְב‬ִ ‫ים ַחיּוֹת‬ִ‫ְוַגם־ַאֶתּם ַכֲּאָב‬ ‫ה‬ 5 ye also, as living stones, are built
up a spiritual house, to be a holy
 ‫קֶדשׁ ְלַהֲעלוֹת‬
ׂ ‫ְלִמְשַׁכּן ָהרוַּח ִלְכֻהַנּת‬ priesthood, to offer up spiritual
sacrifices, acceptable to God
‫ִזְבֵחי־רוַּח ְל ָרצוֹן ֵלאׂלִהים ְבֵּישׁוַּע‬ through Jesus Christ.
‫ַהָמִּשׁיַח׃‬
‫י ִיַסּד‬ִְ‫ְוֶזה הוּא ֶשָׁאַמר ַהָכּתוּב ִה‬ ‫ו‬ 6 Because it is contained in
scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a
‫ְבִּציּוֹן ֶאֶבן ִפָּנּה ֶאֶבן ֹבַּחן ִויָקָרה‬ chief corner stone, elect, precious:
‫ְוַהַמֲּאִמין ָבּהּ ׂלא ֵיבוֹשׁ׃‬ And he that believeth on him shall
not be put to shame.
‫ים ִהיא ֶאֶבן ַהְיָקר‬ִ‫ָלֵכן ָלֶכם ַהַמֲּאִמי‬ ‫ז‬ 7 For you therefore that believe is
the preciousness: but for such as
‫ֲאָבל ַלסּוֲֹר ִרים ָהֶאֶבן ֲאֶשׁר ָמֲאסוּ‬ disbelieve, The stone which the
‫ֶגף‬ֶ ‫ים ָהְיָתה ְלׂראשׁ ִפָּנּה וְּלֶאֶבן‬ִ‫ַהבּוֹ‬ builders rejected, The same was
‫שׁל׃‬
ׂ ‫וְּלצוּר ִמְכ‬ made the head of the corner;

‫ְכְשׁלוּ ַיַען ׂלא ָשְׁמעוּ ַלָדָּבר‬ִ ‫ְוֵהם‬ ‫ח‬ 8 and, A stone of stumbling, and a
rock of offence; for they stumble at
‫וָֹעדוּ׃‬‫ְוָלׂזאת ַגּם־‬ the word, being disobedient:
whereunto also they were
appointed.
‫ְבָחר ַמְמֶלֶכת‬ִ ‫ט ְוַאֶתּם ִהְנֶּכם ֶז ַרע‬ 9 But ye are a elect race, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, a people
‫ים ְוגוֹי ָקדוֹשׁ ְוַעם ְסֻגָלּה ְלַמַען‬ִ‫ּׂכֲה‬ for God’s own possession, that ye
‫ְתַּסְפּרוּ ְתִּהלּוֹת ַהקּוֵֹרא ֶאְתֶכם ֵמחֶׂשׁ‬ may show forth the excellencies of
‫ֶאל־אוֹרוֹ ַהִנְּפָלא׃‬ him who called you out of
darkness into his marvellous light:
‫ים ׂלא־ָעם ֱהִייֶתם ְוַעָתּה ַעם‬ִ‫ֲאֶשׁר ְלָפ‬ ‫י‬ 10 who in time past were no people,
but now are the people of God:
‫ים ׂלא ֻרָחמוּ ְוַעָתּה‬ִ‫ֱאׂלִהים ַוֲאֶשׁר ְלָפ‬ who had not obtained mercy, but
‫ְמֻרָחִמים׃‬ now have obtained mercy.
‫יא ֲחִביַבי ַאְזִהי ְרֶכם ְכֵּג ִרים ְותוָֹשִׁבים‬ 11 Beloved, I beseech you as
sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain
‫ִהָנְּזרוּ ִמַתֲּאוֹת ַהָבָּשׂר ַהִמְּתָגּרוֹת‬ from fleshly lust, which war
‫ַבָּנֶּפשׁ׃‬ against the soul;
‫יב ְוֵהיִטיבוּ ַד ְרְכֶּכם ַבּגּוִֹים ְלַמַען ַיִבּיטוּ‬ 12 having your behavior seemly
among the Gentiles; that, wherein
‫ֶאל־ַמֲעֵשׂיֶכם ַהטּוִֹבים ִויַכְבּדוּ‬ they speak against you as evil-
‫ֶאת־ָהֱאׂלִהים ְבּיוֹם ַהְפֻּקָדּה ַתַּחת‬ doers, they may by your good
 ‫ֲאֶשׁר ֵח ְרפוּ ֶאְתֶכם ְכּׂפֲעֵלי ָאֶון׃‬ works, which they behold, glorify
God in the day of visitation.
‫עוּ ְלָכל־ְפֻּקַדּת ָאָדם ְלַמַען ָהָאדוֹן‬ְ‫יג ְוִהָכּ‬ 13 Be subject to every ordinance of
man for the Lord’s sake: whether
‫ִאם־ַלֶמֶּל ָכּ ָראוּי ָלׂראשׁ׃‬ to the king, as supreme;
‫מְשִׁלים ָכּ ָראוּי ַלְשּׁלוִּחים ֵמִאתּוֹ‬ ּׂ ‫יד ִאם־ַל‬ 14 or unto governors, as sent by him
for vengeance on evil-doers and
‫ְקַמת ּׂפֲעֵלי ָאֶון ְוִלְתִהַלּת ׂעֵשׂי טוֹב׃‬ִ‫ְל‬ for praise to them that do well.
‫טו ִכּי ֵכן ְרצוֹן ֱאׂלִהים ֶשַׁתֲּעשׂוּ ַהטּוֹב‬ 15 For so is the will of God, that by
well-doing ye should put to silence
‫ִשׁים ֲאֶשׁר‬ָ‫ְוִתְסְכּרוּ ֶאת־ִפּי ִאֶוֶּלת ָהֲא‬ the ignorance of foolish men:
‫ֵאין־ָבּם ָדַּעת׃‬
‫טז ַכָּחְפִשׁים ְוׂלא־ְכִאלּוּ ָהְיָתה ָלֶכם‬ 16 as free, and not using your
freedom for a cloak of wickedness,
‫ַהֻחְפָשׁה ְלִמְכֵסה ָהָרָעה ִכּי ִאם־ְכַּעְבֵדי‬ but as bondservants of God.
‫ֱאׂלִהים׃‬
‫ֲהגוּ ָכבוֹד ְבָּכל־ִאישׁ ֶאֱהבוּ ֵאת‬ַ ‫יז‬ 17 Honor all men. Love the
brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the
‫ָהַאִחים ִי ְראוּ ֶאת־ֱאׂלִהים ַכְּבּדוּ ֶאת‬ king.
‫ַהֶמֶּל ׃‬
‫יֶכם‬ֵ‫י ֲאׂד‬ֵ‫עוּ ִלְפ‬ְ‫יח ָהֲעָבִדים ִהָכּ‬ 18 Servants, be in subjection to your
masters with all fear; not only to
‫ ִוים‬ָ‫י ַהטּוִֹבים ְוָהֲע‬ֵ‫ְבָּכל־ִי ְרָאה ׂלא ִלְפ‬ the good and gentle, but also to
‫י ָהִעְקִּשׁים׃‬ֵ‫ִבְּלַבד ִכּי ִאם־ַגּם־ִלְפ‬ the froward.
‫יט ִכּי ֶחֶסד הוּא ָלִאישׁ ִכּי־ִיְשַׂבּע‬ 19 For this is acceptable, if for
conscience toward God a man
‫ַמְמּׂר ִרים ִויֻעֶנּה ִחָנּם ְלַמַען ַדַּעת‬ endureth griefs, suffering
‫ָהֱאׂלִהים׃‬ wrongfully.
‫כ ִכּי ִאם־ֶתֶּחְטאוּ וְּסַבְלֶתּם ַמכּוֹת‬ 20 For what glory is it, if, when ye sin,
and are buffeted for it, ye shall
‫ֶא ְגרוֹף ַמה־ִתְּתַהָלּלוּ ֲאָבל ִאם־ְתֻּענּוּ‬ take it patiently? but if, when ye do
‫וְּסַבְלֶתּם ַבֲּעשׂוְֹתֶכם ַהטּוֹב ֶחֶסד הוּא‬ well, and suffer for it, ye shall take
‫י ֱאׂלִהים׃‬ֵ‫ִמִלְּפ‬ it patiently, this is acceptable with
God.
‫ְק ֵראֶתם ִכּי ַגם־ַהָמִּשׁיַח‬ִ ‫כא ִכּי ָלׂזאת‬ 21 For hereunto were ye called:
because Christ also suffered for
‫ֻעָנּה ַבַעְדֶכם ְוִהְשִׁאיר ָלֶכם מוֵֹפת‬ you, leaving you an example, that
 ‫ָלֶלֶכת ְבִּעְקּבוָֹתיו׃‬ ye should follow his steps:

‫כב ֲאֶשׁר ׂלא ָחָמס ָעָשׂה ְוׂלא ִמ ְרָמה‬ 22 who did no sin, neither was guile
found in his mouth:
‫ְבִּפיו׃‬
‫ה‬ָ‫ֲע‬ַ ‫כג ֲאֶשׁר ָשַׁמע ֶח ְרָפּתוֹ ְוׂלא ֵהִשׁיב‬ 23 who, when he was reviled, reviled
not again; when he suffered
‫שֵׁפט‬ ּׂ ‫וֹ ַל‬‫ְוׂלא ָגַער ִכּי ִאם־ָמַסר ִדּי‬ threatened not; but committed
‫ָשׂא ִבּ ְג ִוָיּתוֹ‬ָ ‫וּ הוּא‬‫טאֵת‬ ּׂ ‫ֶצֶדק ְוֶאת־ַח‬ himself to him that judgeth
‫ַעל־ָהֵעץ׃‬ righteously:

‫וּ‬‫ְחֶיה ַלְצָּדָקה ַאֲחֵרי ָחַדְל‬ִ ‫כד ְלַמַען‬ 24 who his own self bare our sins in
his body upon the tree, that we,
‫ִמן־ַהֲחָטִאים׃‬ having died unto sins, might live
unto righteousness; by whose
stripes ye were healed.
‫ ְרָפּא ָלֶכם ִכּי ֱהִייֶתם‬ִ ‫כה ֲאֶשׁר ַבֲּחֻבָרתוֹ‬ 25 For ye were going astray like
sheep; but are now returned unto
‫אְבדוֹת ְוַעָתּה ַשְׁבֶתּם ֶאל־ָהׂרֶעה‬ ׂ ‫ְכּׂצאן‬ the Shepherd and Bishop of your
‫שֵׁתיֶכם׃‬ ׂ ‫ְפ‬ַ ‫ְפִּקיד‬ souls.

Chapter 3

‫י‬ֵ‫ה ִלְפ‬ָ‫ְע‬ַ‫ה ַהָנִּשׁים ִהָכּ‬ָ‫א ְוֵכן ַאֵתּ‬ 1 In like manner, ye wives, be in

subjection to your won husbands;
‫וּ ְבֵּאין־אֶׂמר‬‫ַבֲעֵליֶכן ְלַמַען ֲאֶשׁר־ִיָקּ‬ that, even if any obey not the word,
‫וְּדָב ִרים ַעל־ְיֵדי ַמֲעֵשׂי ַהָנִּשׁים ִמי‬ they may without the word be
‫שְׁמִעים ַלָדָּבר׃‬ ׂ ‫ם‬ָ‫ֶשֵׁאי‬ gained by the behavior of their
wives;
‫ה ֶלֶכת ְבִּי ְרָאה׃‬ָ‫ְע‬ַ‫ב ִבּ ְראוָֹתם ִכּי ִתְצ‬ 2 beholding your chaste behavior
coupled with fear.
‫וְּפֵא ְרֶכן ַאל־ְיִהי ִמַבּחוּץ ְבַּמְחְלפוֹת‬ ‫ג‬ 3 Whose adorning let it not be the
outward adorning of braiding the
‫ֵשָׂער ַוֲעִדי ָזָהב וְּלִביַשׁת ַמֲחָלצוֹת׃‬ hair, and of wearing jewels of gold,
or of putting on apparel;
‫יָמה ְבּרוַּח‬ִ‫ד ִכּי ִאם־ָהָאָדם ַהָצּפוּן ְפּ‬ 4 but let it be the hidden man of the
heart, in the incorruptible apparel
‫ָוה ְוַהְשֵׁקט ֲאֶשׁר ׂלא ִיְכֶלה הוּא‬ָ‫ֲע‬ of a meek and quiet spirit, which is
 ‫י ֱאׂלִהים׃‬ֵ‫ָיָקר ְבֵּעי‬ in the sight of God of great price.

‫ים ַגּם־ַהָנִּשׁים‬ִ‫ה ִכּי ֵכן ִהְתַקְשּׁטוּ ְלָפ‬ 5 For after this manner aforetime the
holy women also, who hoped in
‫ָען‬ְ‫ַהְקּׂדשׁוֹת ַהְמַיֲחלוֹת ֵלאׂלִהים ְבִּהָכּ‬ God, adorned themselves, being in
‫י ַבֲעֵליֶהן׃‬ֵ‫ִלְפ‬ subjection to their own husbands:
‫ְכָּשׂ ָרה ֲאֶשׁר ָשְׁמָעה ְבּקוֹל ַאְבָרָהם‬ ‫ו‬ 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling
him lord: whose children ye now
‫ַוִתְּקָרא־לוֹ ָאדוֹן ֲאֶשׁר ַאֶתּן ֱהִייֶתן ָלהּ‬ are, if ye do well, and are not put in
‫ה‬ָ‫וֹת ַבֲּעשׂוְֹתֶכן ַהטּוֹב ְוׂלא ִתיֶרא‬‫ְלָב‬ fear by any terror.
‫ִמָפַּחד׃‬
‫ִשׁים ְשׁבוּ ִעָמֶּהן‬ָ‫ְוֵכן ַאֶתּם ָהֲא‬ ‫ז‬ 7 Ye husbands, in like manner, dwell
with your wives according to
‫וּ־ָלהּ‬‫ה ִכּי־ְכִלי ָרֶפה ָהִאָשּׁה וְּת‬ָ‫ִבְּתבוּ‬ knowledge, giving honor unto the
‫ֲחַלת‬ַ‫ָכּבוֹד ִכּי ַגם־ָלֶהן ֶישׁ־ֵחֶלק ְבּ‬ woman, as unto the weaker
‫ת ַהַחִיּים ֶפּן־ִתָּכְּלאוּ‬ַ‫ַמְתּ‬ vessel, as being also joint-heirs of
the grace of life; to the end that
‫ִמְתִּפלּוֵֹתיֶכם׃‬ your prayers be not hindered.
‫ח ְוסוֹף ָדָּבר ֱהיוּ ֻכְלֶּכם ֵלב ֶאָחד ַבֲּעֵלי‬ 8 Finally, be ye all likeminded,
compassionate, loving as brethren,
‫ים ְוִשְׁפֵלי‬ִ‫אֲהֵבי ָהַאִחים ַרֲחָמ‬
ׂ ‫ֶחְמָלה‬ tenderhearted, humbleminded:
‫רוַּח׃‬
‫ט ַאל־ְתַּשְׁלּמוּ ָרָעה ַתַּחת ָרָעה ְוׂלא‬ 9 not rendering evil for evil, or
reviling for reviling; but
‫ֶח ְרָפּה ַתַּחת ֶח ְרָפּה ִכּי ִאם־ְתָּב ֵרכוּ‬ contrariwise blessing; for hereunto
‫י ֶשּׁׂיְדִעים ַאֶתּם ֶשָׁלּׂזאת‬ֵ‫ִמְפּ‬ were ye called, that ye should
‫ְק ֵראֶתם ֶשִׁתּי ְרשׁוּ ֶאת־ַהְבּ ָרָכה׃‬ִ inherit a blessing.

‫אֵהב ָיִמים‬ ׂ ‫ִכּי ָהִאישׁ ֶהָחֵפץ ַחִיּים‬ ‫י‬ 10 For, He that would love life, And
see good days, Let him refrain his
‫וֹ ֵמ ָרע וְּשָׂפָתיו‬‫ִל ְראוֹת טוֹב ִיּׂצר ְלשׁוֹ‬ tongue from evil, And his lips that
‫ִמַדֵּבּר ִמ ְרָמה ָיסוּר ֵמָרע ְוַיֲעֶשׂה־טּוֹב‬ they speak no guile:
‫ְיַבֵקּשׁ ָשׁלוֹם ְוִי ְרְדֵּפהוּ׃‬
‫יו‬ָ‫י ְיהָוֹה ֶאל־ַצִדּיִקים ְוָאְז‬ֵ‫יא ִכּי־ֵעי‬ 11 And let him turn away from evil,
and do good; Let him seek peace,
‫ֶאל־ַשׁ ְוָעָתם׃‬ and pursue it.
‫י ְיה ָוֹה ְבּׂעֵשׂי ָרע׃‬ֵ‫יב וְּפ‬ 12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon
the righteous, And his ears unto
 their supplication: But the face of
the Lord is upon them that do evil.
‫אוּ ַלֲעשׂוֹת‬ְ‫יג וִּמי ָי ֵרַע ָלֶכם ִאם־ְתַּק‬ 13 And who is he that will harm you, if
ye be zealous of that which is
‫ַהטּוֹב׃‬ good?
‫יד ְוַאְשׁ ֵריֶכם ַגּם ִאם־ְתֻּענּוּ ְלַמַען ַהְצָּדָקה‬ 14 But even if ye should suffer for
righteousness’ sake, blessed are
‫ַרק־מוָֹרָאם ׂלא־ִתי ְראוּ ְוׂלא ַתֲע ִריצוּ׃‬ ye: and fear not their fear, neither
be troubled;
‫אתוֹ ַתְקִדּישׁוּ‬ ׂ ‫טו ֶאת־ ְיהָוֹה ֱאׂלִהים‬ 15 but sanctify in your hearts Christ
as Lord: being ready always to give
‫ים ָתִּמיד ְלָהִשׁיב‬ִ‫ׂכ‬ְ ‫ִבְּלַבְבֶכם ִוְהיוּ‬ answer to every man that asketh
‫ָוה וְּבִי ְרָאה ְלָכל־ְמַבֵקּשׁ‬ָ‫ָדָּבר ַבֲּע‬ you a reason concerning the hope
‫ֵמִאְתֶּכם ֶחְשׁבּוֹן ַהתּוֶֹחֶלת ֲאֶשׁר‬ that is in you, yet with meekness
and fear:
‫ְבִּק ְרְבֶּכם׃‬
‫כוֹן ְיִהי ָלֶכם ְלַמַען ֵיֹבשׁוּ‬ָ ‫טז רוַּח‬ 16 having a good conscience; that,
wherein ye are spoken against,
‫ֲאִצים ַדּ ְרְכֶּכם ַהטּוָֹבה ַבָמִּשׁיַח‬ַ‫ַהְמ‬ they may be put to shame who
‫ְלַהְלִשׁין ֶאְתֶכם ְכּׂפֲעֵלי ָאֶון׃‬ revile your good manner of life in
Christ.
‫יז ִכּי טוֹב ָלֶכם ֲאֶשׁר ְתֻּענּוּ ִבּ ְרצוֹן‬ 17 For it is better, if the will of God
should so will, that ye suffer for
‫ֱאׂלִהים ַבֲּעשׂוְֹתֶכם ַהטּוֹב ִמֶשְּׁתֻּענּוּ‬ well-doing than for evil-doing.
‫ַבֲּעשׂוְֹתֶכם ָרע׃‬
‫יח ִכּי ַגם־ַהָמִּשׁיַח ֵמת ַפַּעם ַאַחת‬ 18 Because Christ also suffered for
sins once, the righteous for the
‫וּ ַהַצִּדּיק ְבַּעד ָה ְרָשִׁעים‬‫טאֵתי‬ ּׂ ‫ַעל־ַח‬ unrighteous, that he might bring us
‫וּ ֶאל־ָהֱאׂלִהים הוַּמת‬‫אָת‬ ׂ ‫ְלָקֵרב‬ to God; being put to death in the
‫ַבָּבָּשׂר ַוְיִחי ָברוַּח׃‬ flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

‫יט וְּבֵכן ָהַל ַוִיְּק ָרא ָלרוּחוֹת ֲאֶשׁר‬ 19 in which also he went and
preached unto the spirits in prison,
‫ַבִּמְּשָׁמר׃‬
‫וּ ַכֲּאֶשׁר ִחָכּה‬‫ים ׂלא ֶהֱאִמי‬ִ‫כ ֲאֶשׁר ְלָפ‬ 20 that aforetime were disobedient,
when the longsuffering of God
‫ַח ְבֵּהָעשׂוֹת‬ׂ ‫א ֶר ַאפּוֹ ִבּיֵמי‬
ׂ ‫ֱאׂלִהים ְבּ‬ waited in the days of Noah, while
‫ְמְלטוּ ֵאֶליָה ְמַעִטּים‬ִ ‫ַהֵתָּבה ֲאֶשׁר‬ the ark was a preparing, wherein
 ‫ָפשׁוֹת ִמן־ַהָמִּים׃‬ְ ‫ה‬ֶ‫מ‬
ׂ ‫ְוֵהם ְשׁ‬ few, that is, eight souls, were
saved through water:
‫כא ְוהוּא ְדּמוּת ַהְטִּביָלה ֲאֶשׁר ָכֵּעת‬ 21 which also after a true likeness
doth now save you, even baptism,
‫תּוִֹשׁיַע ַגּם־ֶאְתֶכם ׂלא ְלָהִסיר ֶחְלַאת‬ not the putting away of the filth of
‫וּ ֵמֵאת‬‫ַהָבָּשׂר ִכּי ִאם־ִלְשָׁאל־ָל‬ the flesh, but the interrogation of a
‫ֱאׂלִהים רוַּח ְשֵׁלָמה ַעל־ְיֵדי ֲהָקַמת‬ good conscience toward God,
through the resurrection of Jesus
‫ֵישׁוַּע ַהָמִּשׁיַח׃‬ Christ;
‫כב ֲאֶשׁר ָעַבר ַהָשַּׁמְיָמה ַוֵיֶּשׁב ִליִמין‬ 22 who is one the right hand of God,
having gone into heaven; angels
‫יו ַהַמְּלָאִכים‬ָ‫עוּ ִמָפּ‬ְ‫ֱאׂלִהים ַוִיָּכּ‬ and authorities and powers being
‫ְוָה ְרֻשׁיּוֹת ְוַה ְגּבוּרוֹת׃‬ made subject unto him.

Chapter 4

‫וּ‬‫א ְוַעָתּה ַכֲּאֶשׁר ֻעָנּה ַהָמִּשׁיַח ַבֲּעֵד‬ 1 Forasmuch then as Christ suffered
in the flesh, arm ye yourselves
‫ים ַבַּדַּעת‬ִ‫ַבָּבָּשׂר ֵכּן ֱהיוּ ַגם־ַאֶתּם ְמֻזָיּ‬ also with the same mind; for he
‫ַהִהיא ִכּי ַהְמֻעֶנּה ַבָבָּשׂר ָחַדל ַלֲחטוֹא׃‬ that hath suffered in the flesh hath
ceased from sin;
‫י‬ֵ‫ב ְלַמַען ֲאֶשׁר ׂלא ִתְחיוּ עוֹד ְלַתֲאוֹת ְבּ‬ 2 that ye no longer should live the
rest of your time in flesh to the
‫ָאָדם ִכּי ִאם־ִל ְרצוֹן ֱאׂלִהים ָכּל־ְיֵמי‬ lusts of men, but to the will of God.
‫ֱהׂיְתֶכם עוֹד ַבָּבָּשׂר׃‬
‫וּ ֲעשׂוֹת ְכֵּחֶפץ ַהגּוִֹים ַבָּיִּמים‬‫ִכּי ַרב ָל‬ ‫ג‬ 3 For the time past may suffice to
have wrought the desire of the
‫וּ ְבַּד ְרֵכי ִזָמּה‬‫ים ְיֵמי ֶלְכֵתּ‬ִ‫שׁ‬ׂ ‫ָה ִרא‬ Gentiles, and to have walked in
‫סְבֵאי ַיִין ְוׂזֲלֵלי ָבָשׂר ְוׂרְדֵפי‬
ׂ ‫וְּבַתֲאוֹת ְכּ‬ lasciviousness, lusts,
‫ֵשָׁכר ְותוֲֹעבוֹת ֲעֹבַדת ָהֱאִליִלים׃‬ winebibbings, revellings,
carousings, and abominable
idolatries:
‫ד ְוַעל־ׂזאת ְתֵּמִהים ֵהָמּה וְּמַגְדִּפים ִכּי‬ 4 wherein they think strange that ye
run not with them into the same
‫ׂלא־ָתרוּצוּ ִעָמֶּהם ִלְהיוֹת ְשׁטוִּפים‬ excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
‫ְבִּזָמּה ְכּמוֶֹהם׃‬
‫י ֶהָעִתיד ִלְשּׁׂפט‬ֵ‫וּ ֶחְשׁבּוֹן ִלְפ‬‫ה ֲאֶשׁר ִיְתּ‬ 5 who shall give account to him that
is ready to judge the living and the
‫ַהַחִיּים ְוַהֵמִּתים׃‬ dead.
‫ִכּי ַעל־ֵכּן ִהְתַבְּשׂרוּ ַגּם־ַהֵמִּתים ְלַמַען‬ ‫ו‬ 6 For unto this end was the gospel
preached even to the dead, that
‫י־ָאָדם ְוִיְחיוּ ָבּרוַּח‬ֵ‫וּ ַבָבָּשׂר ִכְּב‬‫ִידּוֹ‬ they might be judged indeed
‫ְכֶּד ֶר ֱאׂלִהים׃‬ according to men in the flesh, but
live according to God in the spirit.
‫וִּעים‬‫ֵהן ֵקץ ַהּׂכל ָק ֵרב ָלֵכן ֱהיוּ ְצ‬ ‫ז‬ 7 But the end of all things is at hand:
be ye therefore of sound mind, and
‫ְוֵע ִרים ְלִהְתַפֵּלּל׃‬ be sober unto prayer:
‫קֶדם ָכּל־ָדָּבר ֶאֱהבוּ ִאישׁ ֶאת־ָאִחיו‬ ׂ ‫ח ְו‬ 8 above all things being fervent in
your love among yourselves; for
‫ַאֲהָבה ַעָזּה ִכּי ַעל־ׂרב ְפָּשִׁעים ְתַּכֶסּה‬ love covereth a multitude of sins:
‫ָהַאֲהָבה׃‬
‫ט ֱהיוּ ְמָאֲרִחים ִאישׁ ֶאת־ ֵרֵעהוּ ִבְּבִלי‬ 9 using hospitality one to another
without murmuring:
‫ְתֻלנּוֹת׃‬
‫ִאישׁ ִאישׁ ְכַּמַתּן ַהֶחֶסד ֲאֶשׁר ִקֵבּל‬ ‫י‬ 10 according as each hath received a
gift, ministering it among
‫ים ְמֻמִנּים‬ִ‫סְכ‬
ׂ ‫ַתַּעְזרוּ ִאישׁ ְל ֵרֵעהוּ ְכּ‬ yourselves, as good stewards of
‫ַעל־ַחְסֵדי ֱאׂלִהים ָה ַרִבּים׃‬ the manifold grace of God;
‫יא ַהְמַדֵבּר ְיַדֵבּר ִאְמֵרי־ֵאל ְוָהׂעֵזר ַיֲעׂזר‬ 11 if any man speaketh, speaking as
it were oracles of God; is any man
‫וֹ ֱאׂלִהים ְלַמַען‬ָ‫ִמתּוֹ ַהַחִיל ֲאֶשׁר ֲח‬ ministereth, ministering as of the
‫ִיָכֵּבד ֱאׂלִהים ַבּּׂכל ַעל־ְיֵדי ֵישׁוַּע‬ strength which God supplieth: that
‫ַהָמִּשׁיַח ֲאֶשׁר לוֹ ַהָכּבוֹד ְוָהׂעז ְלעוְֹלֵמי‬ in all things God may be glorified
through Jesus Christ, whose is the
‫עוָֹלִמים ָאֵמן׃‬ glory and the dominion for ever
and ever. Amen.
‫י ְלַמַען‬ִ‫יב ֲחִביַבי ְבֹּבֲאֶכם ְבּתוֹ כּוּר ֳע‬ 12 Beloved, think it not strange
concerning the fiery trial among
‫א ִתְתָמהוּ ְכִּאלּוּ ָקָרה‬ָ‫סְתֶכם ַאל־‬ ּׂ ַ you, which cometh upon you to
‫ֶאְתֶכם ִמְק ֶרה ָזר׃‬ prove you, as though a strange
thing happened unto you:
‫יג ִכּי ִאם־ִשְׂמחוּ ַעל־ֲאֶשׁר ֵחֶלק ָלֶכם‬ 13 but insomuch as ye are partakers
of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that
‫ְבִּענּוֵּיי ַהָמִּשׁיַח ְלַמַען ַגּם־ִתְּשְׂמחוּ‬
 ‫ְוַתַעְלצוּ ְבִּהָגּלוֹת ְכּבוֹדוֹ׃‬ at the revelation of his glory also ye
may rejoice with exceeding joy.
‫יד ִאם־ְיָחֲרפוּ ֶאְתֶכם ְלַמַען־ֵשׁם ַהָמִּשׁיַח‬ 14 If ye are reproached for the name
of Christ, blessed are ye; because
‫ָחה ֲעֵליֶכם רוַּח ַהָכּבוֹד‬ָ ‫ַאְשֵׁריֶכם ִכּי‬ the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of
‫ָאף‬ּׂ‫) ְוַה ְגּבוָּרה( רוַּח ֱאׂלִהים )ֶאְצָלם ְמ‬ God resteth upon you.
‫ְכָבּד(׃‬ִ ‫הוּא ְוֶאְצְלֶכם‬
‫טו ִכּי ַאל־ְיֻעֶנּה ִאישׁ ִמֶכּם ְכּׂרֵצַח אוֹ ְכַגָנּב‬ 15 For let none of you suffer as a
murderer, or a thief, or an evil-
‫ס ִבְּתחוּם‬ָ‫ְכ‬ִ‫אוֹ־ְכׂפֵעל ָאֶון אוֹ־ְכ‬ doer, or as a meddler in other
‫וֹ ֶשׁלּוֹ׃‬‫ֶשֵׁאי‬ men’s matters:
‫טז ְוִכי־ְיֻעֶנּה ְכַּאַחד ַהְמִּשׁיִחִיּים ַאל־ֵיבוֹשׁ‬ 16 but if a man suffer as a Christian,
let him not be ashamed; but let
‫ִכּי ִאם־יוֶֹדה ֵלאׂלִהים ַעל־ַהָדָּבר ַהֶזּה׃‬ him glorify God in this name.
‫יז ִכּי ֵעת ָהֵחל ַהִמְּשָׁפּט ִמֵבּית ֱאׂלִהים‬ 17 For the time is come for judgment
to begin at the house of God: and
‫ה ַמה־ִתְּהֶיה ַאֲח ִרית‬ָ‫שׁ‬
ׂ ‫ְוִאם־ִמֶמּנּוּ ִרא‬ if it begin first at us, what shall be
‫ַהַמְּמ ִרים ֶאת־ְבּשׂוַֹרת ֱאׂלִהים׃‬ the end of them that obey not the
gospel of God?
‫יח ֵהן ַצִדּיק ִכְּמַעט ׂלא ִיָוֵּשַׁע ַאף ִכּי־ָרָשׁע‬ 18 And if the righteous is scarcely
saved, where shall the ungodly and
‫ְוחוֵֹטא׃‬ sinner appear?
‫יט ָלֵכן ַגּם־ַהְמֻעִנּים ִכּ ְרצוֹן ֱאׂלִהים‬ 19 Wherefore let them also that suffer
according to the will of God
‫שֵׁתיֶהם ְבַּיד ֱאׂלִהים‬ׂ ‫ְפ‬ַ‫ַיְפִקידוּ ֶאת־‬ commit their souls in well-doing
‫ַהֹבּ ֵרא ַהֶנֱּאָמן ְויוִֹסיפוּ ַלֲעשׂוֹת ַהטּוֹב׃‬ unto a faithful Creator.

Chapter 5

‫ים ֲאֶשׁר ְבִּק ְרְבֶּכם ַאְזִהיר‬ִ‫א ֶאת־ַהְזֵּק‬ 1 The elders among you I exhort,
who am a fellow-elder, and a
‫י ַהָזֵּקן ֲעִמיָתם ְוֵעד ִענּוֵּיי ַהָמִּשׁיַח‬ִ‫ֲא‬ witness of the sufferings of Christ,
‫ְוַגם־ָחֵבר ַלָכּבוֹד ֶהָעִתיד ְלִהָגּלוֹת׃‬ who am also a partaker of the glory
that shall be revealed:
‫ב ְרעוּ ֶאת־ֵעֶדר ָהֱאׂלִהים ֲאֶשׁר ַתַּחת‬ 2 Tend the flock of God which is
among you, exercising the
 ‫ס ִכּי‬ֶ‫א‬
ׂ ‫ֶיְדֶכם ְוַהְשׁ ִגּיחוּ ֲעֵליֶהם ׂלא ְב‬ oversight, not of constraint, but
willingly, according to the will of
‫ָדָבה )ִכּ ְרצוֹן ֱאׂלִהים( ְוׂלא ֵעֶקב‬ְ‫ִאם־ִבּ‬ God; nor yet for filthy lucre, but of
‫ֶפשׁ ֲחֵפָצה׃‬ֶ‫ֶבַּצע ָרע ִכּי ִאם־ְבּ‬ a ready mind;
‫ֲחַלת ְיהָוֹה ִכּי‬ַ‫ים ְבּ‬ִ‫ג ַאף־ׂלא ְכּרוָֹד‬ 3 neither as lording it over the
charge allotted to you, but making
‫ִאם־ִלְהיוֹת מוֵֹפת ַלּׂצאן׃‬ yourselves ensamples to the flock.
‫ד וְּבהוָֹפַעת ַשׂר ָהׂרִעים ִתְּשׂאוּ ֲעֶטֶרת‬ 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall
be manifested, ye shall receive the
‫ַהָכּבוֹד ֲאֶשׁר ׂלא ִתֹבּל׃‬ crown of glory that fadeth not
away.
‫י‬ֵ‫עוּ ִלְפ‬ְ‫ה ְוֵכן ַגּם־ַאֶתּם ַהְנָּע ִרים ִהָכּ‬ 5 Likewise, ye younger, be subject
unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird
‫ים ְוִח ְגרוּ ֻכְלֶּכם ִשְׁפלוּת רוַּח‬ִ‫ַהְזֵּק‬ yourselves with humility, to serve
‫ַע ִאישׁ ְלֵרֵעהוּ ִכּי ֱאׂלִהים ַלֵלִּצים‬ֵ‫ְבִּהָכּ‬ one another: for God resisteth the
‫ ִוים ִיֶתּן־ֵחן׃‬ָ‫ָיִליץ ְוַלֲע‬ proud, but giveth grace to the
humble.
‫ְפְשֶׁכם ַתַּחת ַיד־ֱאׂלִהים‬ַ ‫ַהְשִׁפּילוּ‬ ‫ו‬ 6 Humble yourselves therefore under
the mighty hand of God, that he
‫ַהֲחָזָקה ְלַמַען ְירוֵֹמם ֶאְתֶכם ְבִּעתּוֹ׃‬ may exalt you in due time;
‫ז ַהְשִׁליכוּ ָעָליו ָכּל־ְיָהְבֶכם ִכּי הוּא ִיְדַאג‬ 7 casting all your anxiety upon him,
because he careth for you.
‫ָלֶכם׃‬
‫קדוּ ִכּי ְי ִריְבֶכם ַהָשָׂטן‬
ׂ ‫ח ִהְתעוֲֹררוּ ְשׁ‬ 8 Be sober, be watchful: your
adversary the devil, as a roaring
‫שֵׁאג וְּמַבֵקּשׁ ֵאת‬ ׂ ‫ִמְתַהֵלּ ְכַּא ְרֵיה‬ lion, walketh about, seeking whom
‫ֲאֶשׁר ְיַבֵלַּע׃‬ he may devour,
‫ה וְּדעוּ‬ָ‫ ְגדּוֹ ֲחָזִקים ָבֱּאמוּ‬ֶ ‫ט ַוֲעַמְדֶתּם‬ 9 whom withstand stedfast in your
faith, knowing that the same
‫ִכּי־ִענּוּ ִים ָכֵּאֶלּה ָבּאוּ ַגם־ַעל־ֲאֵחיֶכם‬ sufferings are accomplished in
‫ֲאֶשׁר ָבּעוָֹלם׃‬ your brethren who are in the world.
‫י ֵואׂלֵהי ָכל־ַהֶחֶסד ֲאֶשׁר ָק ָרא ֶאְתֶכם‬ 10 And the God of all grace, who
called you unto his eternal glory in
‫ִלְכבוֹדוֹ ַהִנְּצִחי ַבָּמִּשׁיַח ֵישׁוַּע ַאֲחֵרי‬ Christ, after that ye have suffered
‫ֻענּוְֹתֶכם ְמַעט הוּא ַיְשִׁלים ֶאְתֶכם‬ a little while, shall himself perfect,
‫ִויַחֵזּק ִויַגֵבּר ִויַיֵסּד׃‬ establish, strengthen you.
 ‫יא לוֹ ַהָכּבוֹד ְוָהׂעז ְלעוְֹלֵמי עוָֹלִמים‬ 11 To him be the dominion for ever
and ever. Amen.
‫ָאֵמן׃‬
‫וֹס ָהָאח ַהֶנֱּאָמן ִכּי ֵכן‬‫יב ְבַּיד ִסְלָו‬ 12 By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as
I account him, I have written unto
‫שׁב ָכַּתְבִתּי ֲאֵליֶכם ִבְּדָב ִרים‬ ׂ ‫ֶאֱח‬ you briefly, exhorting, and testifying
‫ְמַעִטּים ְלַהְזִהיר ֶאְתֶכם וְּלָהִעיד ִכּי‬ that this is the true grace of God.
‫ֶחֶסד ָהֱאׂלִהים ַהֶזּה ֲאֶשׁר ֲעַמְדֶתּם בּוֹ‬ Stand ye fast therein.
‫ֱאֶמת הוּא׃‬
‫יג ְקִהַלְתֶּכם ֲאֶשׁר ְבָּבֶבל ַהִנְּבָח ָרה‬ 13 She that is in Babylon, elect
together with you, saluteth you;
‫שֲׁאִלים‬ ׂ ‫י‬ִ‫ִאְתֶּכם וַּמ ְרקוֹס ְבּ‬ and so doth Mark my son.
‫ִלְשׁלוְֹמֶכם׃‬
‫ִשׁיַקת‬ְ‫יד ַשֲׁאלוּ ִאישׁ ֶאת־ ֵרֵעהוּ ְלָשׁלוֹם ִבּ‬ 14 Salute one another with a kiss of
love. Peace be unto you all that are
‫ַאֲהָבה ָשׁלוֹם ָלֶכם ֻכְּלֶּכם ֲאֶשׁר‬ in Christ.
‫ַבָּמִּשׁיַח ֵישׁוַּע ָאֵמן׃‬

"YHVH": The Name of God in the Hebrew Scriptures, "YHVH" (the Hebrew letters, 'Yud' 'He' 'Vav' 'He', aka Tetragamaton), is used instead of "Jehovah" or "JEHOVAH" in
the original ASV Scriptures.
