ParaphiliaS
Persistent and recurrent sexual interests, urges, fantasies, or behaviors
of marked intensity involving objects, activities, or even situations that
are atypical in nature.

-if they cause distress or impairment to the individual or cause personal


harm or the risk of harm to others—are called paraphilic disorders.

Frotteurism is the act of touching or rubbing one's genitals up against
another person in a sexual manner without their consent, to derive
sexual pleasure or reach orgasm.
Fetishistic Disorder
In fetishistic disorder, a person is sexually attracted to nonliving objects.

Fetishistic arousal is associated with two classes of objects or activities:


(1) an inanimate object or (2) a source of specific tactile stimulation.

A third source of attraction (sometimes called partialism) is a part of the


body, such as the foot, buttocks, or hair.
Voyeuristic and
Exhibitionistic Disorders
Voyeuristic disorder is the practice of observing, to become aroused, an
unsuspecting individual undressing or naked.
Exhibitionistic disorder
Is achieving sexual arousal and gratification by exposing genitals to
unsuspecting strangers.
Transvestic Disorder
In transvestic disorder, sexual arousal is strongly associated with the act
of (or fantasies of) dressing in clothes of the opposite sex, or cross-
dressing
Sexual Sadism and Sexual
Masochism Disorders
Both sexual sadism and sexual masochism are associated with either
inflicting pain or humiliation (sadism) or suffering pain or
humiliation (masochism)

Sexual sadism is infliction of


physical or psychological suffering
(eg, humiliation, terror) on another
person to stimulate sexual
excitement and orgasm.

Sexual masochism involves acts in which a person experiences sexual
excitement from being humiliated, beaten, or otherwise abused.
Pedophilic Disorder and Incest

Pedophilic disorder is characterized by recurring, intense sexually


arousing fantasies, urges, or behavior involving children (usually 13
years old or younger). Pedophiles may be attracted to young boys,
young girls, or both

If the children are the person’s relatives, the pedophilia takes the form
of incest.
Drug Treatments
The most popular drug used to treat individuals with paraphilicdisorders
is an antiandrogen called “cyproterone acetate” This “chemical
castration” drug eliminates sexual desire and fantasy by reducing
testosterone levels dramatically.

A second drug is medroxyprogesterone (Depo-Provera is the injectable


form), a hormonal agent that reduces testosterone
