4. Brake system
4.1 General
Brakes are safety devices! Only qualified personnel are allowed
to perform any assembly, adjusting or maintenance work!
The braking torque in our documents is based on the following
operating conditions:
a. Protect the friction surfaces from oil or grease, rain,
splash water, snow and ice;
b. Ensure that the brake linings do not come into contact
with solvent-containing media;
c. Wire must not be taut, under pressure;
d. Follow the instructions on the label, connect voltage
accurately;
e. Ambient temperature:+5℃ ~+40℃ . If the temperature
is lower or below freezing because the moisture, the brake
44
Geared Traction Machine Operation And Service Manual
torque is severely decreased, must provide appropriate
countermeasures.
f. Brakes normal operating voltage range of the reference
GB/T 12325-2008 4.2 "Power quality-Deviation of supply
voltage" ± 7% required.
4.2 Brake system maintenance
There are two micro switches install in the brake system used to
feed back the acting of brake, we recommend customer to
connect them to your control system.
Surface temperatures of brake may occur >100 °C. For this
reason, no temperature-sensitive parts such as normal cables or
electronic components may be routed to or fixed to the braking
surface. Provide appropriate protection against accidental contact,
if necessary.
Because the running situation is deferent, we can’t control the
adjusting time. So the operator who in charge of maintenance
45
Geared Traction Machine Operation And Service Manual
works should inspect the running situation regularly. Normally,
every month should be inspected.
When doing any inspection or maintenance work, make sure that:
a. No inadvertent starting of the motor is possible;
b. No load moment is acting on the brake drum or on the
motor;
c. After completion of the inspection and maintenance
work, the interlocking preventing inadvertent starting of the
motor is cancelled
d. All surfaces providing friction are free from oil or
grease; it is not possible to clean an oily or greasy brake
lining.

4.3 Brake system adjustment
Before adjust the brake system be sure that the car is no
passenger and the car must at terminal station and the
counterweight must on the buffer.
Check the brake wheel and the brake shoe clearance,
when the minimum clearance more than 0.4mm, or brake safety
travel only 0.5 mm, both as long as to meet the one, should be
adjusted.
Method: hand push the brake guide shaft or hit the
cap, measure the gap “A” in guide shaft and bolt.

Since the mechanical structure of each model is slightly different,
there are two methods to measure the brake spring compression:
1. Without ruler in machine (as shown in the left picture below),
measure the free length of the spring and the compressed length
with the ruler, and then subtract the two length values to calculate
the compression amount of the spring.
2, Have a ruler in machine(as shown in the right below), you can
read the spring in the free state and compression state of the scale
value, the spring compression amount is the subtraction of the
two values.

5 Three-phase asynchronous motor
5.1 Overview
5.1.1 YTTD series
YTTD series 3-phase regulating speed induction motors are
developed for special purpose applications in elevator.
Motor’s insulation is class F, motor’s rated voltage and frequency is
380V 50Hz(motor’s rated voltage and frequency is 380V 60Hz for
machine YJ410) with single winding, motor runs on intermittent
periodic duty (S5) with intermittent rate of 40%, 180 starts per hour.
There are two kind poles of 4 poles 、6 poles and 8 poles.
Motor’s mounting type is flange installation structure, additional
positive temperature coefficient thermal resistance protector can be
imbedded in the stator winding upon client’s request so as to
effectively keep motor from burn out caused by likely locked rotor,
overload, improper and low supply voltage, etc, because a optimal
68
Geared Traction Machine Operation And Service Manual
combination of thermal resistance and thermal protector can
accurately and instantaneously monitor the temperature variation of
motor and switch power supply off at once when the designated
temperature has been reached.
High performance motors specially designed can meet the actually
operating condition and environment requirements of
adjustable-frequency equipments and elevators. They can start at
high starting torque with low staring current and operate at low slip
with low noise and vibration.
5.1.2 YTD series
YTD series 3-phase AC induction motors available with double
speeds are developed for special purpose applications in elevator.
There are two classes of insulation B and F, motor’s rated voltage and
frequency is 380V 50Hz with double winding, 6(4) poles for high
speed setting and 24 (16)poles for low speed setting.
69
Geared Traction Machine Operation And Service Manual
Motor runs either on intermittent periodic duty (S5) with intermittent
rate of 40%, 180 starts per hour, 3 minutes duration for 24(16) poles
running, or on equivalent short time duty (S2) with 30 minutes
duration for 6(4) poles rate running and 3 minutes duration for 24(16)
poles rate running.
Motor provide an alternative mounting type of horizontal installation
(B3) or flange installation (B5).
High performance motors specially designed can meet the
actually operating condition and environment requirements with
high starting torque and low staring current, low noise and
vibration.
5.2 Basic performance
Please refer to nameplate of motor.
5.3 Operation instruction
1. Check and ensure that all connecting bolts at outside of
70
Geared Traction Machine Operation And Service Manual
motor are securely fastened.
2. Ground terminals in terminal box must be connected to
appropriate earth with appropriate cord, securing grounded
well.
3. Measure the dielectric resistance between windings and
frame with megger whose scale up to 500 MΩ, need to dry
motor prior to be used if less than 1MΩ.
4. Conduct wire connections based on wire diagram.
5. Check and ensure firstly that line source conforms to
specification and mount and connections meet this manual’s
requirements, then switch motor on if all are okay.
Check and ensure that motor operate smoothly and no desirable
noise.
6. YTD series Motors must start with 6(4) poles windings for
normal operating condition. When overhauling elevator, motors
must start and run on 24(16) poles setting within 3 minutes
running.
71
Geared Traction Machine Operation And Service Manual
5.4 Maintenance
1. Motor should be inspected and maintained periodically
together with elevator. The relevant details must be written
down and kept carefully.
2. The motor permits reasonable slight and harmonious sound
during operation. Motor must stop at once to check and replace
worn bearings if abnormal noise caused by bearings has been
found out.
3. Motor must be dried off when the dielectric resistance
between windings and frame is less than 1MΩ. A locked
rotor current method is recommended to do drying treatment,
that is, letting motor operate at locked rotor status on
50~60VAC 50Hz power supply. More care should be given
to ensure that locked current is less than rated value,
windings temperature rise not over 70K.This task must be
done by expertise personnel.
