2 Seat Porch Swing

Materials List
14- Cedar Fence Pickets 5 ½” X 6’
7- Cedar 2x4 @ 8 feet
(This can be made with pressure treated lumber or regular pine
for a more budget friendly build)
Note: I purchased the hanging hardware from Lowes. It came as
a kit in the chain aisle. There are many ways to hang it but I
found this to be very simple. Price around $25.

Fence Picket Pieces

22 @ 3 ½” X 21 ½” (Slats)
4 @ 3 ½” x 15” (Table Supports)
3 @ 5 ½” x 20 ½” (Table Top)
2 @ 3 ½” x 22 ½” (Arm Rest)

Step #1
Cut all pieces from the cut list or you may choose to cut as you
go to ensure alignment as you build.
Step #2
Drill pocket holes into the 2- 2x4 @ 17” seat supports, 3- 2x4
@ 58” long supports and 2- 2x4 @ 14 ¾” arm rest supports.
Set your bit 1 ½”. Two holes on each end of each board. Attach
one of the 58” long supports directly the ends of the 21 ¾”
arm supports. The remaining two long supports will be
sandwiched together on the back side of the frame. Use 2 ½”
pocket hole screws and exterior wood glue to attach. See
photo below.
Step #3
Measure 18” over from where the 58” front long support is attached to the
side support and mark a line on each end. This will be the line where the 2-
2x4 @ 17” seat supports will go. Use 2 ½” pocket hole screws and exterior
wood glue to attach. See photo below.
Step #4
Attach the 14 ¾” arm rest supports to the 15” arm supports using 2 ½”
pocket hole screws and exterior wood glue. Then attach the 15” arm
supports to the sides of the frame using 2 ½” deck screws and exterior
wood glue. See photo below.
Step #5
Now attach the angled back supports. Using 2 ½” decks screws and wood
glue screw two of the supports directly to the 15” arm supports. The angled
end will sit flush on the sandwiched long supports. Drill pocket holes on the
angled end of the other to back supports. Line the back supports up with seat
supports and use 2 ½” pocket hole screws and exterior wood glue. Once they
are attach you can toenail a couple 2 ½” deck screws in on the opposite side
of the pocket holes for added stability. See photo below.
Step #6
Drill pocket holes into two of the 18” back support braces. Then drill three
more pocket holes along one side of each brace. Place the back support
braces between the back supports and use 2 ½” pocket hole screws and
exterior wood glue to attach. The brace should rest on the outside 58” long
support. See photo below.
Step #7
Use 1 ¼” brad nails or 1 ¼” deck screws to attach the seat slats. Five on
each seat. Start with front slat and leave a ½” overhang. Then attach the
back slat flush up against the back supports. Space the remaining three
evenly apart on each seat. The slats should overhang the seat supports by
a 1/2” or so. See photo below.
Step #8
Assemble the table base by using 1 ¼” deck screws and attaching the 3 ½”
x 15” table supports directly to the 18” 2x4 table supports. Repeat this
step so you have two tabe support assemblies. Next screw the bottom of
the supports directly to the 58” long supports on the front and back. The
use 1 ¼” brad nails to attach the three table top pieces. Space evenly
apart. See photo below.
Step #9
Install the back slats. Six on each side. Start with the bottom and top slat.
Space the remaining four slats approx. ½” apart. Use 1 ¼” brad nails or 1 ¼”
deck screws. Lastly attach the arm rest using 1 ¼” brad nails or 1 ¼” deck
screws. You may want to round the fronts for a cleaner look. See photo
below.
Congratulations on your build!!
