Fundamental rights and liberties of
citizen under 1973 constitution of
Pakistan:

The 1973 Constitution of Pakistan established a more


comprehensive framework for the rights and liberties of
Pakistani citizens, with an emphasis on individual
freedoms, equality, and social justice. Key fundamental
rights and liberties guaranteed in the 1973 Constitution
include:

1. Right to Life and Liberty: Article 9


ensures every citizens right to life and personal liberty
with protection against arbitrary arrest and detention.

2. Equality Before Law: Article 25


guarantees all citizens equality before the law and
protection against discrimination on the basis of race,
religion, caste, sex, or place of birth.

3. Freedom of Speech and Expression:


Article 19 provides freedom of speech and expression
within certain limits, especially concerning the
sovereignty, integrity, and security of Pakistan.

4. Freedom of Assembly: Article 16 ensures


the right to peaceful assembly, allowing citizens to gather
and protest within the bounds of the law.
5. Freedom of Association: Article 17 allows
citizens to form associations or unions, except where it is
against the interests of sovereignty, public order, or
morality.

6. Freedom of Religion: Article 20 guarantees


all citizens the right to profess, practice, and propagate
their religion, as well as manage religious institutions.

7. Right to Property: Article 23 provides the


right to acquire, hold, and dispose of property, though the
state may acquire private property for public purposes
with fair compensation.

8. Right to Education: Article 25-A declares


that the state must provide free and compulsory
education.

9. Freedom of Trade, Business, and


Profession: Article 18 to all children between the
ages of five and sixteen allows citizens to engage in any
lawful profession or occupation and to conduct any lawful
trade or business.

10. Right to Information: Article 19-A was


later added to give citizens the right to access information
on matters of public importance, promoting transparency
and accountability.

These rights underscore Pakistan commitment to


democratic values, individual freedoms, social justice,
and rule of Law. The 1973 constitution remains the
foundational legal document for citizen rights in Pakistan,
and many of these rights are legally enforceable through
Pakistan judicial system.
