Prospect Terrace Cabled Hat

Construction: Prospect Terrace is a cabled hat knit in


the round from the brim to the crown. The all over
cabled pattern is separated by purl stitches, providing
generous ease to fit a range of head circumferences.
This hat is knit in a worsted weight yarn and is perfect
for cool, crisp fall days.

Skill level: Intermediate


Skills needed: Knitting in the round, cabling, decreasing
by SSK and K2tog

Size: Small (Large) Adult


Circumference: Stretches to fit up to 22” (24”) head
circumference
Height: 7 ½” (8 ¼”)
Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows per 4” in the cabled body pattern knit in the round.

Materials:
US 6 (4.0 mm) 16” circular knitting needles, or 2 sizes smaller than gauge needles.
US 8 (5.0 mm) 16” circular knitting needles and set of double pointed needles, or size needed
to obtain gauge.
180 (210) yards of worsted weight wool-blend acrylic yarn (shown in Lion Brand Wool Ease,
80% acrylic/ 20% wool, 85 g, 197 yds, Oxford Gray).

CDD: Center double decrease: slip the next two stitches together, knit the next stitch, slip the
two slipped stitches over the knit stitch.
k: knit
k2tog: knit two together.
p: purl
rnd(s): round(s)
ssk: slip slip knit: slip next two stitches knitwise, then knit them together.
st(s): stitch(es)
1/1 RC: 2 stitch right cable: hold next stitch to back of work, knit next stitch, knit held stitch.
1/1 LC: 2 stitch left cable: hold next stitch to front of work, knit next stitch, knit held stitch.
1/2 LC: 3 stitch left cable: hold next 2 stitches to front of work, knit next stitch, knit two held
stitches.
1/2 RC: 3 stitch right cable: hold next stitch to back of work, knit next two stitches, knit held
stitch.
2/2 LC: 4 st left cable: Hold next two sts to front of work, knit next two sts, knit held sts.
3/3 LC: 6 st left cable: Hold next three sts to front of work, knit next three sts, knit held sts.

Instructions:
Brim:
CO 106 (120) sts on smaller needles. Join work to knit in the round, being careful not to twist
work. Place stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.

Rnd 1: *k1, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.


Repeat rnd 1 until hat measures 3 ½” from CO edge.

Rnd 2 (set-up rnd for SMALL size only): switch to larger needles and continue, *k7, p1, k6, p1;
repeat from * to last 16 stitches, k7, p1, k6, ssk.
Rnd 2 (set-up rnd for LARGE size only): switch to larger needles and continue, *k7, p1, k6, p1;
repeat from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 3: *1/2 LC, k1, 1/2 RC, p1, k6, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 4: *k7, p1, k6, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 5: as rnd 4.
Rnd 6: *1/2 LC, k1, 1/2 RC, p1, 3/3L C, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 7: as rnd 4.
Rnd 8: as rnd 5.

Repeat rnds 3 - 8 four (five) times or until hat is 1 ½” shorter than desired finished length.
Five (six) repeats total.

Switch to double-pointed needles when needed.
Round 9: 1/2 LC, k1, 1/2 RC, p1, k6, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 10: K7, p1, k1, ssk, k2tog, k1, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 11: K7, p1, k4, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 12: 1/2 LC, k1, 1/2 RC, p1, 2/2 LC, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 13: Repeat round 11.
Round 14: Ssk, k3, k2tog, p1, k4, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 15: 1/1 LC, k1, 1/1 RC, p1, k4, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 16: K5, p1, ssk, k2, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 17: 1/1 LC, k1, 1/1 RC, p1, CDD, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 18: Ssk, k1, k2tog, p1, k1, p1; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 19: CDD, p1, ssk; repeat from * to end of rnd.
Round 20: ssk, k1; repeat from * to end of rnd.

Cut yarn and weave tail through remaining stitches. Weave in remaining ends. Lightly wet
block. Wear.
