The current administration deal on issue such as EJK (extra-judicial killing) through
strong investigation to gives justice on the victims and to their families. President Marcos Jr.
set up to use force only if necessary to make sure it is accountable and justiciable, this focus
on anti-illegal drugs campaign and given priority to rehabilitation on the drug users, giving
assistant to the victims and their families, and provision of education to reduce the common
conflict. President Marcos also thinks to focus on the war on drug, since drugs transaction are
increasing. According to new research “The relentless campaign by our law enforcement
authorities against these illegal drugs prove that the BBM (Marcos) administration is dead
serious in continuing the crusade to free our country from the menace of this evil that destroys
our families and society,” said Barbers said (‘Shabu’ Lab Raids Prove PBBM Is ‘Dead Serious’
in Drug war–Barbers, 2022). Drugs is everywhere, even in the prison where there are still
transactions on drugs, when the PNP make action to search the whole prison many illegal
drugs are found, gadgets that are used to make transactions. The current administration is very
thorough in searching for illegal drugs.
According to Duterte's administration, since he was elected in 2016 on a vow of
eradicating crime, police have killed around 6,600 individuals in shootouts with alleged drug
dealers. Activists estimate that at least 27,000 people have died. The council high commission
requested the high commissioner to prepare a report because of the high number of people
being killed. In this current administration the UNHRC criticized the country allegedly on
red-tagging. The UNHRC want the Philippines to end the practice of red tagging. They also
state that the Philippines must ensure the protection of human rights defenders like
harassment, human rights abuses and etc., but the Philippines stand that there is no
government policy of engaging red-tagging but just a term.
On the current administration from July-November 2022, 46 drug suspects are killed,
32 are from the Philippine National Police (PNP) operations, and 14 are from the Philippine
Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operations. The PNP wanted to have a bloodless campaign
on war on drugs to avoid the increasing number of drug users being killed, but there are also
cases that the PNP don’t have a choice since they also need to protect their self. This year
there are 276 of drug related killing, 149 on the Duterte administration, and 127 on this
current administration. The president supports the holistic approach on stopping the spread
and eradicating drug across the country. My comment on this approach is best approach to use
for the reason that it doesn’t just concern on how to prevent the spread of drugs and a goal to
capture the big suppliers of drugs across the country and also a rehabilitation. Since many
people are killed being on the war on drugs of this administration and even in the past
administration holistic approach is the appropriate action to do it’s like a win-win situation
because it tackles about the whole well-being of a person. As this approach continue, I think
our country will have a brighter future.
