EDITOR’S NOTE
India-China Relations. Last week saw a huge turnaround in bilateral relations
between the two Asian giants. Setting the stage for a summit meeting during the
BRICS meeting in Kazan, Russia, the two nations announced an ‘agreement’ towards
‘disengagement’ on the LAC. The bitter standoff resulted in a downturn in bilateral
relations over the skirmishes in the Galwan area of Eastern Ladakh over four and a
half years back. As we go to press with this issue the ‘disengagement’ process has
been completed and joint patrolling is set to commence in Depsang plains and
Demchok, two ‘friction’ points on the LAC. While the trade imbalance is glaring
between the two nations, the frosty diplomatic relations were a big hindrance. Hence
these talks and meeting between the two leaders is an important step towards the
normalization of relations. The LAC deployment now needs to be scaled down and
troops and equipment that had been moved from the hinterland can go back in a
phased manner. The two armies will now start building back trust and confidence by
sector-level meetings and joint patrolling.
YMA Activities. The YMA fraternity is very excited about new initiatives in giving
quality education and mentoring. Towards that, the written online courses for NDA
and CDS are starting very soon. A very young faculty has conducted over 30 demo
classes for aspirants. Our recommendations in SSB are very encouraging, Shivani
Rathore and Shivani Mor recently got recommended. We are also proud of Akshaj
Sharma for securing the 32nd rank in NDA merit. The online course along with DNA
Live Daily has become a regular and healthy diet for thousands of aspirants across
India.
The GEN-MOR team is also growing with a few more interns joining after a detailed
interview and selection process. It is shaping up into a ‘Team of all Teams’.

India’s TB Crisis : Nutritional Support and Policy Changes
Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health challenge in India, with about three million
new cases and 300,000 deaths annually. The Ministry of Health has increased the Nikshay
Poshan Yojana (NPY) financial aid from ₹500 to ₹1,000 monthly and introduced a one-time
₹3,000 support at diagnosis to help TB patients manage treatment costs.
Importance of Nutritional Support
Proper nutrition is crucial for TB patients, who often suffer from undernutrition, increasing the
risk of poor outcomes. Many patients begin treatment with low body weights (43 kg for men
and 38 kg for women), and undernutrition significantly contributes to new TB cases.
Social Determinants and Challenges
TB risk is heightened by poverty, overcrowding, and poor nutrition. Patients also face income
loss and food insecurity, complicating recovery and reinforcing the cycle of poverty.
Supportive Evidence for Nutrition
Studies, like the RATIONS trial, show that food baskets and nutritional supplements can lower
TB mortality and reduce new cases similarly to vaccination.
Nikshay Poshan Yojana Evaluation
An evaluation by the National Institute of Epidemiology highlighted that administrative
burdens and barriers like lack of identification and bank accounts limit access to NPY
benefits, with non-receipt linked to worse health outcomes.

India-Canada Diplomatic Rift Deepens Amid Safety Concerns and Allegations
India has recalled High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma and other senior diplomats from
Canada, citing safety concerns. In response to Canadian actions, India expelled six Canadian
diplomats, including Acting High Commissioner Stewart Ross Wheeler, with orders to leave by
October 19, 2024. Tensions escalated following Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's assertion that
Indian agents were involved in the 2023 killing of pro-Khalistan figure Hardeep Singh Nijjar in
British Columbia, a claim India dismissed as politically motivated. In response, India froze visa
services for Canadians and ordered the removal of Canadian diplomats. India warned of further
actions if extremism in Canada remains unchecked.

ISRO’s AstroSat, NASA’s space observatories capture dramatic eruptions from
stellar wreckage
India’s AstroSat and NASA’s observatories have documented significant eruptions from debris
around a massive black hole, which has torn apart one star and is now colliding with another.
This discovery links tidal disruption events (TDEs) with quasi-periodic eruptions (QPEs). In
2019, astronomers observed a star being destroyed by the black hole, creating a debris disk that
later interacted with an orbiting star, leading to bursts of X-rays approximately every 48 hours.

critical juncture COMH Abdul Hamid was commanding a recoilless

to a flank with his gun mounted on a jeep.
Braving intense enemy shelling and tank fire he knocked out the
leading enemy tank with accurate fire and then changing his position
knocked out another enemy tank. By this time the enemy, who had
spotted his position, brought down concentrated machine gun and
high explosive fire on him but he kept on firing. As he fired to hit yet
another enemy tank, he was mortallywounded by a high explosive
shell. Throughout this action COMH Abdul Hamid inspired his
comrades to put up a gallant fight to beat off the enemy tank assault.
His sustained act of bravery and disregard for personal safety, in the

Finally, the financial backbone
of India’s green transition is
green finance. With an
estimated requirement of
$10.1 trillion by 2050 to fund its
green economy shift, India is
tapping into green bonds,
carbon credits, and public-
private partnerships. The
issuance of India’s first
sovereign green bond in 2022,
which raised ₹16,000 crore ($2
billion), highlights the growing
appetite for green
investments. International
cooperation will also be vital,
with India advocating for
developed countries to fulfill
their $100 billion annual
commitment under the Paris
Agreement.
By leveraging advanced
technologies such as AI, IoT,
and blockchain, India can
further optimize its green
energy systems, making them
more efficient and
transparent. Coupled with
strategic policy frameworks,
skilled workforce

practices, India is on track to
become a global leader in the
green sustainable economy,
securing both economic
growth and environmental
resilience.
