The "Understanding the Self" course emphasized honesty and helping each
other, profoundly shaping my learning experience. Honesty encouraged self-reflection,
leading to a deeper understanding of my strengths and weaknesses. This openness
fostered a trusting environment in group discussions, where everyone felt comfortable
sharing their vulnerabilities. Helping each other became crucial during collaborative
projects, as we learned from each other's experiences and supported each other's
growth. One particularly impactful activity involved sharing personal challenges, which
deepened our connections and fostered empathy within the team. By offering help to a
classmate struggling with a concept, I’m not only reinforced my own understanding but
also contributed to their learning. This reciprocal support enhanced our collective
experience and made the learning process more enriching. Through these values, I
learned that honesty promotes clarity and authenticity, while helping others fosters
collaboration. These values guided my choices to engage actively and empathetically
throughout the course. Ultimately, this experience reinforced the importance of these
values in both personal growth and meaningful connections with others.
This course deepened my understanding of myself and the value I bring to group
dynamics, it highlighted three key strengths, decision-making, attention to detail, and
innovative problem-solving. These strengths significantly influenced my learning
experience, particularly during a group project on self-reflection. When tasked with
leading the project, my ability to make decisions effectively proved. I suggested dividing
tasks based on each member's strengths, ensuring engagement and a sense of
ownership. This optimized our workflow and fostered a positive team dynamic. My keen
eye for detail also played a crucial role. While reviewing our presentation slides, I
noticed inconsistencies in our data, which could have undermined our credibility. By
bringing this to the group's attention, we corrected the errors before our final
submission, enhancing the quality of our work and boosting our confidence. When we
encountered technical difficulties with our presentation equipment, my innovative
problem-solving skills came into play. Instead of panicking, I proposed a creative
storytelling approach that required minimal tech, allowing us to engage our audience in
a more personal way. This adaptability turned a potential setback into an opportunity for
deeper connection. Throughout the course, these strengths reinforced my
understanding of how self-awareness enhances both individual and collaborative
efforts. Effective decision-making fosters trust and accountability within a group. My
keen observation skills helped create a culture of excellence, where details matter. My
innovative mindset reminded me that challenges can lead to creative solutions, turning
obstacles into opportunities for growth.
Public speaking and insecurity have always been my biggest challenges. The
fear of speaking in front of a group makes my heart race and often leaves me frozen.
This fear has caused me to miss out on opportunities at work and in social settings.
Insecurity compounds this struggle, making me doubt my abilities and avoid taking
risks. Taking an understanding the self course was a turning point. I learned that self-
awareness is crucial and that everyone faces challenges. Setting small, achievable
goals, like practicing in front of friends, gradually built my confidence. Embracing
feedback as a tool for growth transformed my perspective. Mindfulness techniques, like
deep breathing, have become essential for calming my nerves before speaking. With
practice and exposure, I'm slowly overcoming my fears and becoming more comfortable
in my own skin.

A course on understanding the self through art ignited my fascination with

music. Exploring how art reflects emotions, I was captivated by music's power to convey
feelings. Music became more than entertainment, it was a path to self-discovery. The
course encouraged me to examine our artistic preferences, leading me to experiment
with different genres and their emotional impact. This exploration helped me connect
with my own feelings and experiences in a new way. I now appreciate the stories behind
songs and the artists who create them. This journey has enriched my understanding of
myself and the world through the lens of music. My growing fascination with music
deeply connects to my life goals. It's inspired me to explore my own artistic expression,
aligning with my desire for a more authentic and fulfilling life. My appreciation for music
motivates me to connect with others who share my passion, fostering a community that
supports my personal and professional aspirations. Music has also become a source of
motivation and resilience, helping me navigate life's challenges. Ultimately, my
fascination with music enriches my life by encouraging self-discovery, building
connections, and fostering resilience. It serves as a constant reminder that art is a
powerful tool for personal growth and expression.
Over the next year, I will work on improving my public speaking skills and overcoming
my insecurities by identifying my triggers, practicing regularly, and seeking feedback. I
will write down my specific speaking anxieties, read at least three public speaking
books, join a Toastmasters club, and participate in at least one speaking opportunity
each month. I will also track my progress in a journal. I will set aside time each week to
read, practice speaking, and attend Toastmasters meetings. I will ask for constructive
feedback from friends and family after each speaking opportunity. This goal is important
for my personal development and will enhance my communication skills, which are vital
for both my professional and personal life. I will complete this goal within one year,
regularly reviewing my progress every month to ensure I stay on track and adjust my
strategies as needed.
Here’s my 5 steps in action plan this includes;
Step 1: Self-Reflection
 Task: Identify and write down your specific fears about public speaking.
 Goal: Understand what makes you anxious.
Step 2: Start Small
 Task: Practice speaking in front of a mirror or to a trusted friend for 5-10 minutes.
 Goal: Build comfort with your voice and body language.
Step 3: Join a Supportive Group
 Task: Find a local Toastmasters club or public speaking group.
 Goal: Practice speaking in a supportive environment.
Step 4: Seek Feedback
 Task: After each practice or presentation, ask for constructive feedback.
 Goal: Identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Step 5: Set SMART Goals
 Task: Define a specific public speaking goal (e.g., “I will give a presentation at a
local event in six months”).
 Goal: Create a clear target to work toward.

My goal is to become a successful architect in three years, driven by a desire to

create inspiring spaces that serve communities. Honesty and helping others are core to
my ambition. I'll focus on my architecture degree, immersing myself in design,
engineering, and sustainability. I'll seek internships to gain experience and build a
network. After graduation, I'll prepare for licensing exams and gain experience in various
architectural areas. Staying updated on industry trends and developing my soft skills will
be crucial. My interest in music will influence my creative process. I envision
specializing in a niche area like green building or urban design, making a positive
impact. Ultimately, I want to contribute to the built environment while finding fulfillment in
my career.
The "Understanding the Self" course emphasized the importance of honesty and
helping others, shaping a trusting learning environment. Through self-reflection,
students gained a deeper understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, fostering
openness in sharing vulnerabilities. Collaborative projects highlighted the significance of
mutual support and learning from each other’s experiences. The value of offering help
and receiving feedback was evident in enhancing the collective learning experience.
This reciprocity reinforced the role of honesty in promoting clarity and authenticity while
emphasizing the collaborative benefits of assisting others. The course also deepened
self-awareness and highlighted key strengths like decision-making, attention to detail,
and innovative problem-solving, enhancing individual and group dynamics. Additionally,
personal struggles with public speaking and insecurity were addressed with strategies
such as setting small, achievable goals and embracing feedback for growth. The course
on understanding the self through art sparked a fascination with music, leading to
personal growth and resilience through self-discovery and connection with others.
Moving forward, a structured action plan for improving public speaking skills includes
self-reflection, gradual exposure, seeking feedback, joining supportive groups, and
setting SMART goals. In pursuing a three-year goal to become a successful architect,
the focus is on creating inspiring and community-serving spaces, guided by honesty and
a commitment to helping others. This journey includes education, hands-on experience,
skill development, staying updated on trends, and building a personal brand aligned
with values for a positive impact on the environment and community.
