BOM configuration.
Configuration path: SPRO>PRODUCTION >BASIC DATA>BOM.
Last 4 digit contain the information if T code.
T code –OS27
IF this indicator is active for the multiple BOM. Then at the time of Alternative
BOM creation error message is occur.
Also BOM history requirement is maintained in the OS27.
2. Define default value –OS28
Base qty. and BOM status is active or Inactive is by default in the BOM is set in
the OS28.
Also the dimensions of variable size item UNIT is set here.
BOM status and base qty.
Also if you select the Variable size item in the BOM then default UOM is
reflected.
3. Define BOM usage –OS20
BOM is production related
Indicator: item relevant to production
This indicator controls whether and, if so, to which extent BOM items are relevant to production.
Fpr example, items that are relevant to production are copied to the planned order. The system also
calculates dependent requirements for these items and copies the items to the production order.
Procedure
In accordance with the usage key, you define for all items whether they
must be maintained in production (+)
can be maintained in production (.)
cannot be maintained in production (-)
BOM Usage
This key defines the area (such as engineering/design or production) where a BOM can be used.
Use
By setting various indicators, you can define the maximum configuration of the item status and define
whether an item must be or cannot be processed in a particular area (such as production).
Examples
A material is used in the areas production and costing in a company. For each area, you maintain a
separate BOM with different items:
Production BOM:
This BOM contains items that are relevant to production. These items are copied to the planned
order. Dependent requirements are generated for them, and they are copied to the production
order.
Costing BOM:
This BOM contains items that are relevant to determining the material costs of a product.
When you calculate production costs using a quantity structure, the system automatically
determines the BOM and all the BOM items that are relevant to costing, in order to calculate
manufacturing costs
4. Define Default value for item data –OS21
These value is reflected in the BOM item.
5.Define copy default fir item status –OS22
Reference BOM usage
This key gives the BOM usage whose item status is being used as a reference for copying to a new usage.
New BOM usage
This key indicates the BOM usage whose item status is being copied from another usage.
6. Define material type allowed for BOM header.-OS24
For which material is allowed to create BOM is configured via OS24
7. Define BOM Status –OS23
BOM status
Key which describes the current processing status of the BOM.
This indicator controls subsequent processing of the BOM in various other organizational areas (for
example, engineering, costing, MRP).
Examples
1 - BOM active
This BOM can, for example, be exploded in MRP and released for planned orders.
2 - BOM not active
This BOM cannot be processed as described above.
Dependencies
In the modification table for BOM management, you can define a default status for creating BOMs.
7.Configure History Requirement for BOM –OS25
Indicator: history requirement for changes
Indicator that controls whether BOM changes should be made with reference to a change number or not.
Dependencies
If you set a status with this indicator for a BOM, you can only change the BOM with history (with a change
number).
8. Change View of message Control for BOM. T code SPRO
Item Data.
1.Define Item Categories –OS13.
Invmg-Inventory management.
TXtItm-Text item. Vsitm-Varibale size item. Docitm-Document Item.
Clsitm-Class item
Item category (bill of material)
Categorization of the items in a BOM according to set criteria, such as whether they refer to an object (for
example, material master or document info record) or whether they are kept in stock.
Use
This categorization allows you to process data that is relevant to the individual items in a BOM. The item
category is used to control field selection, default values for BOM maintenance, triggering of specific
system activities, and so on.
Examples
Stock item
This item category is used to manage material data that allows an item to be kept in stock.
Document item
This item category is used to manage document data that allows you to process original application data
(for example, graphics created with a graphics program).
Class item (for configurable BOMs)
In configurable material BOMs, you can enter a class as a placeholder for selectable items. The class can
contain either materials or documents.
When you assign characteristic values while configuring the BOM, the system replaces the node with an
object that has the same values as those assigned to the characteristic of the configuration. This makes
BOMs with a larger number of variants easier to maintain, as you do not have to enter all items manually
and assign a selection condition to them.
Class items can be relevant to MRP.
PM structure element
This item is used to structure an equipment (PM assembly) for design purposes only.
2. Define object types –OS16
3. Define allowed material type for BOM items-OS14
\
Material type BOM item
Key for the material type of a BOM item.
In BOM maintenance functions, a particular material type can be allowed or not allowed in combination with
a particular usage and material type of the BOM header.
Examples
For example, for the usage "plant maintenance", you can define that the following combination of material
types is not allowed:
header material of material type IBAU (maintenance assembly)
material items of material type INTR (intra material
Define Variable size item Formula-OS15
Formula key
Key that represents the algorithm for calculating the variable-size item quantity.
Examples
You want to calculate the volume of a rolled sheet of metal. This has a variable length and height, but a
constant width (500 MM).
The following are used in the calculation:
SI units that are defined in Customizing
o Length: M (meters)
o Volume: M3 (cubic meters)
In the variable-size item, you only enter the variable values (size 1 and size 2) with a unit of
measure that can be derived from the SI unit of the dimension.
Example for dimension Length: MM (milllimeters), CM (centimeters), DM (decimeters), and M
(meters)
The variable-size item formula uses the SI unit, so you must enter the constant width in the
formula in the SI unit (meters).
Example: ROMS1 * ROMS2 * 0.5 (M)
Dependencies
You can enter units of measure for calculating the variable-size item quantity with a formula. The quantity is
always calculated in the SI unit of the dimension, such as M3 (cubic meters) for volume.
SI units are defined in Customizing ( Dimensions for Units of Measure).
4. Define Spare part Indicator –OS11
Spare part indicator is activated on item level.
Indicator: spare part
This key defines the item as a spare part.
Use
In a BOM explosion, you can use this indicator to restrict item selection.
The indicator does not interrupt the explosion of the BOM to the lowest level. There are two steps to the
BOM explosion:
First, the system explodes the entire BOM, regardless of the indicators selected to restrict items.
You do not see the result of this explosion on the screen.
Second, the system reads the indicators selected to restrict items, such as the Spare part
indicator.
These indicators work as filters. The explosion result, you see on the screen only the items that
fulfil the selection criteria. In this case, only the items with the spare part indicator you selected are
shown.
Examples
In the IMG for BOMs, you can group spare parts together according to various points of view - for example,
according to different maintenance cycles.
Spare part group A contains spare parts that need to be replaced after a machine runtime of 100 hours,
whereas spare part group B contains spare parts that only need to be replaced after a machine runtime of
500 hours.
Definition: spare part
Production Planning and Control (PP)
A material used to replace a defective part.
This material may or may not be kept in stock.
Spare parts are not restored to working condition. Spare parts can be entered in maintenance BOMs.
For plant maintenance purposes, spare parts can be assigned to the various operations of an equipment.
5. Define material provision Indicator –OS12
Material Provision Indicator
This key indicates that the item is subject to material provision.
Use
In the BOM explosion, you can use this indicator to restrict the items selected.
There are two types of material provision:
Material provided by a vendor
Material provided by a customer
You can also use the material provision indicator to identify the subcontracting type for a part. The following
indicators are available:
Refurbishment material to SC (value S in standard SAP system)
Refurbishment material from SC (value X in standard SAP system)
Subsequent delivery (value F in standard SAP system)
If you do not enter information in this field, the components are provided to the subcontractor as
consumable materials (initial value in the standard SAP system).
Dependencies
Material provided by a vendor
This indicator controls material requirements planning. Maintain this indicator for BOM components
only if the material master record of the header material supports subcontracting (Special
procurement field).
The special procurement key for subcontracting means that all components of the BOM are
provided free of charge to a subcontractor for further processing. The items are copied to a
subcontract order.
o If the item is provided to a vendor, do not enter any material provision indicator.
Dependent requirements are generated for this item.
o If the item is already at a vendor's premises and is not provided by us, do enter an
indicator.
No dependent requirements are generated for this item.
Material provided by a customer
This indicator is not currently active.
Material provision indicator is maintained as item level in the BOM. But
they only applicable for the header material is maintained for
Subcontracting with procurement type 30.
BOM of FERT2342.
Material provision indicator is inactive
Then dependent requirement is created for item material after MRP run
And showing as “SubReq” Subcontractor requirements of material
provided for FG material “FERT2342”.
Purchase requisition is created for the FER2342 material.
After conversion of PR to PO then PO number is updated in the MD04.
Do the 541 Movement transfer posting against the PO then for Raw material
stock provided to vendor is shown in the MMBE.
Done the GR of the PO then stock provided to Vendor disappear.
Stock of FERT2342 Material is increased.
For material not showing any element.
Material Provision indicator is selected AS “L”. The no any dependent
requirement is generated for the component material.
After MRP Run No requirement is generated for the for component
material. As a subcontracting.
6. Define Order of priority for BOM usages –OS31
IF BOM of selection priority 1 and BOM usage 1 is not found then select the
next BOM of usage is 3 i.e. Universal BOM
Selection ID for BOM are maintained at client level. These IDs are
then assigned to a perticulat plant. For example Selection 01, is
created to pick BOM with usage 1, then it is assgined to a plant in
OPPQ under BOM/Routing selection. So when MRP runs for a
perticular plant it selects BOM based on there settings
CIM selection indicator for alternatives
This key defines the order of priority of BOM usages for application-specific alternative determination.
Examples
You maintain selection ID 05, to be used for alternative determination in sales and distribution. BOM usage
'sales' (4) has the highest priority, followed by 'production' (2).
The settings for this example are as follows:
BOM
Selection Selection priority usage
ID
05 1 4
05 2 2
When you define the application for sales and distribution (application SLDB) in step 'Define applications',
allocate selection ID 05 to application SLDB.
Dependencies
If no valid BOM is found for any of the usages defined in the order of priority, there is no BOM explosion
7.Define Application – OS30
Selection id is assigned to here. Also the in T code OPPQ plant parameter same
is assigned.
OPPQ t code
8. Determine alternative selection of BOM –OS32.
If this value is maintained then the alternative BOM is selected at the time of
MRP.But the other alternative BOM required to change the status as Inactive.
In T code OS32, enter your material, plant, valid from and valid to selection,
alternative BOM number. This option is valid if there is fixed alternative bom
selection is decided among so many alternatives. But this also requires to work
with BOM status.
In OS32 t code maintained
First alternative BOM status do the inactive, then after 2 alternative BOM is
picked .
MD61 demand setup is done.
Selected production version in schedule line tab enter the production version
Dependent requirement is created for the material.
9. Define user specific setting –OS29
Do the setting for user id vies.
If this setting is done then at the time of BOM creation item increment Is done
0f 20, material item category is by default set as L for stock item.
By default category is set as L and line item increment as 20
Define relevancy to costing –OKK9
