So what is Female Genital mutilation? Female genital mutilation comprises all

procedures that involve partial or total removal of the external female
genitalia, or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical
reasons. This has no health benefits for girls and women and cause severe
bleeding and problems urinating, and later cysts, infections, as well as
complications in childbirth and increased risk of newborn deaths. 30
countries in Africa practice female genital mutilation and one of them is
gambia. Female genital cutting is a deeply ingrained practice in Gambia and
It is driven by cultural beliefs and often performed by traditional healers.
Despite efforts by the government and non-governmental organizations to
eradicate the practice, it still persists in many communities.
I strongly believe that female genital mutilation has no place in any society
and should be banned and actively discouraged. It is important to empower
women and girls to speak out against this harmful practice and to provide
them with education and support to resist social pressure to undergo genital
mutilation. If it is the birth rate is the reason why they practice it, then we
must educate them on how to control birth rate like we practice here in the
Philippines. We must take a step to help them in a legal way and not
violating the rights of the women. And thankfully The Gambia has taken
steps towards lifting a ban on female circumcision, a move that could make it
the first country in the world to reverse legal protections against the practice
for millions of women and girls. And if they succeed with this repeal, we
know that they might come after the child marriage law and even the
domestic violence law. This is not about religion but the cycle of controlling
women and their bodies
