Title
How do you know when genocide is going on against an grouping of people or a conflict
arose between countries ensuing a war. A widely known mass killing resulted in six million
Jewish people being slaughtered through countless torturous ways by the Nazi soldiers. The
holocaust was the outcome of centuries of anti-semetism against Jewish people and people
outcasted by Adolf Hitler leading into something bigger than anyone can imagine. This event
caused the creation of the word ‘genocide’ to label the attraction committed, meaning the
targeted mass murder of a certain section of people. The ending evolved change for that time and
teaching children social awareness so this ever happens again can bring change as time goes on.
The holocaust should be taught in schools and in eighth grade due to its global and emotional
impact still felt today on the victims and bystanders on the mental and physical harm racism and
persecution can do.
Allowing maturing children to learn about the holocaust can show them that this thought to
be an isolated incident has happened for centuries beforehand and decades afterwards. This
knowledge can give eighth graders a safer visual of mass murder and common discrimination
going on even if it’s an unsettling situation. Being able to understand how the holocaust came to
be expands children's mind on current views of difference proceeding on. The holocaust came
about beginning between the 14th through 16th century when early Christians painted Jewish
people as 'unwilling to accept God', ' devil worshipers’, and a 'Jesus killer'. They were thought to
cause plagues, murdering of children for religious reasons and wanting world domination. Early
Christian’s started making laws restricting Jewish people from owning land, public office, and
being denied from most jobbing in Europe. In contrast to those restrictions Jewish people found
other ways to earn from money-lending, trade, and commerce . In the 19th century it became a
widely spread and accepted dangerously threatening view that jewish people were a race rather
than a religion and they had "Jewish blood" even if converted into Christianity. This gave
Europeans malicious feelings blossomed by Adolf hitler by blaming them for their debt and
suffering after WW1 because they have been 'stabbed in the back by them'. This led to few
speaking out in the beginning. showing children that even small anti-semitism can become
bigger and worse problems.
