        Message from Poojya Swamiji
The essence of spiritual message is that within
the ephemeral human body alone the full Pres-
ence of eternal Consciousness, the source of entire
creational display, can be felt, experienced. It is,
in fact, to trace this inner presence that Nature
has evolved the human body. Human alone has
the power of enquiry, by which one can probe
into and discover the inner spiritual Presence,
which is accessible to all, irrespective of one’s
caste, creed and nationality.

spiritual wisdom, cheerfulness lit the faces of all
     royal members.

of the sublimity of Self, gracefully contemplating
upon the quiescent Self, every one began to
     smile.

sorbed in their inner ecstasy of spiritual wisdom
     and its assiduous contemplation.
It is a fact that people in general associate the great spiri-
tual wisdom with ascetic life, led particularly in hermitages

become so widespread that it is hard to bring about a
correction in the hearts and minds of people. Contrary to
this erroneous notion, we find in the palace of Ayodhya a
huge assembly of people from the palace as well as out-
side, graced equally by a number of
saints, sages and Knowers. True spiritual

ened by the Sage-Prince dialogue. In
the end, it proved to be a great festival of spiritual enlight-
enment gracing a huge multitude of men and women. This
fact should take away the wrong notion from the mind of
people that spirituality is for the ascetics only. True spiritual
wisdom is available not alone to the ascetics, but also to
householders, irrespective of their profession or pursuit.
Spiritual knowledge is a dedicated pursuit of the mind
and intelligence. Whether one is living in his homestead
or palace or in dense forest, makes no difference. Rama
was still a young Prince, subjected to utter dejection and
dismay, though steeped in the luxuries of Ayodhya palace.
As it happened in Ayodhya palace, and as it also transpired
for Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra, the relevance
and application of the message are universal.
Sage Vasishtha addressed Rama’s torments. The result was

amazing. As many men and women of the world as possible
should grasp the message and amend their understanding.
By holding on to their pet apathy, people are depriving
themselves of an invaluable treasure!
See, the widespread delight and fulfillment displayed by
the huge assembly of assorted people in the gorgeous
palace of Ayodhya! It was the profound words of wisdom
Vasishthadeva showered on Rama that led them all into
the fullness of inner freedom and ecstasy.
Let us also rejoice over Sage Valmiki’s faithful rendering
of what happened countless millennia ago. Unique indeed
is our cultural and spiritual heritage! Sage Valmiki reports
that all in the audience in Ayodhya Palace were visibly
displaying fulfillment and joy they had gained listening
to Vasishthadeva.

Vasishtha asked, “Tell me what you now wish
to hear. What is most desirable and delightful
to your heart? Tell me the state you experience
now, the way you view the appearance of the
     world before you.”
Sage Vasishtha fondly enquiring whether Rama wanted to
hear anything more, seeks to know what was most de-
lightful to his heart. He also sought to be told about the
blessed state Rama was experiencing. This is the way a
good teacher gets confirmation of what he has revealed,
and what his disciple has gained.

mind and intelligence. It is also a
fact that the final spiritual attainment is in and by the mind
and intelligence. The only process that works is dedicated
and fervent introspection. It is such truthful introspection
that purifies, transforms and sublimates both the mind and
intelligence, making them radiate the supreme benefits. See
Rama describes how his mind got transformed completely
by the 18-day introspection.
Mind of the seeker experiences torments in the hands
of the visible world of plurality assailed by miseries, mis-
fortunes, conflicts and contradictions. But exactly so, the
same mind, when these ills are treated and redressed by
spiritual wisdom, especially in the hands of a Sadguru,
fervently begins to radiate serenity, sublimity, splendid
delight and harmony.
The transformation is, no doubt, wonderful. This is the

amazing effect spiritual instruction and wisdom can work
in the human heart, mind and intelligence. All experiences
belong only to the mind, and all knowledge is bestowed
only by the intelligence. It is no wonder that the two can
lead a devout seeker to this kind of inner fullness and
abundance. Rama and his brothers personify this fulfilment
in copious measures. The event is historic and its effect all
the more so.
Rama categorically says he has no need for any further
exposure from Vasishthadeva. His mind has become free.
He is as immersed as one in sleep, but in the abundant
knowledge and ecstasy of the Soul.

     19. Through my outward senses like eyes,
though I see the world, I perceive it within my-
self. This inner vision is far brighter and more
clear than the outer atmosphere. I see it in the
light of Consciousness, and consider it to be a
part of its infinite empty sphere.
How when true spiritual wisdom is gained, the mind be-
comes wholesomely serene and outlives all kinds of desire,
possessiveness and delusion, is worth reflecting upon. Both
enlightenment and fulfilment Rama had were so conspic-
uous that the Prince feels he has no need for further
spiritual instruction at all. What a towering fullness!
The more important note is that

ing and activating the very body.
Thus in every way, the experience called life becomes more
meaningful and complete. What a splendid development!
Is there anything further to be acquired for fulfillment of
human life on earth? What a splendid inner sufficiency
does spiritual enlightenment bring about! Rama points that
he has a sense of infinitude about himself and the world
floats on his inner endless expanse.

but ākāśa, spatial emptiness. When the entire
visible dissolves into space, I become awake to
    the immortal presence.

let the land and people be gentle and peaceful,
I am self-settled, resting stably in my own Self.
    24. I am restful, though visibly not so to oth-

The sense of stability and poise one
derives on attaining Self-realization Rama realizes
in its full measure is so vivid and that the world is
spectacular, that anyone hearing no more than an
about it will be overwhelmed by extensive emptiness
its greatness, grandeur and glo- like the sky.
ry. Rama says he realizes that the
world is no more than an extensive emptiness like the
sky. Visibles completely dissolve into a total nothing and
he becomes awake to an immortal presence instead. This
gives him such a new feeling of airiness that he cares not
for what comes and goes. Everything is accepted. There is
no feeling of obstruction or deterrence, nor any particular
joy or motivation.
See the dis-concern Rama feels about everything and
all. He cares not even if the great creation undergoes a
change in its nature or course, or is driven to destruction
or dissolution. Whether the land and people are gentle and
peaceful, his poise and settlement are in his own within.
He has become like air, which none can contain in fists.

steadiness and equanimity I rejoice myself
of my mind, freed from all with steadiness and
joy, grief and desire. equanimity, freed from
                                       all joy, grief and desire.
     28. I am happy above all
     happenings. I crave not for
happiness, O Lord. I sit comfortably along with
the people around me. And now, enjoin on me
     anything you like.
     29. Like a child with play, free of all doubt and

     30. I shall eat, drink and be, following what is
to be done from time to time. Free of all fear
and anxiety, I live by your blessing.
Accepting all that may happen, Rama says he craves not
for happiness. Thus fulfilled, all he looks for is Teacher’s
order as to what he has to do. He is like a child at play,
with no doubt, specific concern or agitation. He says he
will eat, drink and also do whatever is to be done as part
of his life, in the course of the world, all by the Sage’s

fond grace and blessing.
Remember, the same Rama had submitted before the Sage,
during his own initial narration, the torments experienced
during his pilgrimage. Seeking a full solution, he had also
said, if such a redress was not there, he would not eat
and drink, nor perform his daily ablutions and the like.
He would simply sit like one in picture, awaiting death
and none else. Imagine his despair then, and consequent
resolution.
Just as the mind leads one to utter havoc, so too the in-
telligence seeking enlightenment mitigates and dissolves
the havoc without any residue. The plight and the redress
are both within the human body, in the sentience it hosts
magnificently!

attained the abode of supreme virtue and ho-
liness, where there is no beginning, middle or
end, wherein no grief transpires at all!
     32. You have attained the cool ‘quietitude’ of
equanimity towards all delights of world and
taken rest in your own Self. Like the sky abiding
in space, you have gained full restfulness.
     33. Fortunately you have become grief-free,
have got seated within yourself. You have no
doubt about either this world or the next, all
having been drowned in your desire-freeness,
all by the grace of Providence.
     34. Providentially, you have purified the Raghu
lineage by your knowledge of past, present and
     future.
Vasishthadeva confirms that Rama has attained supreme
holiness, transcending the three phases of Time, namely
beginning, middle and end. The state Rama has reached
is like the sky dwelling in the infinite space. But whatever
has taken place or got attained, is all due to the grace of
the invisible Providence. Vasishthadeva assures that the
Prince, by gaining inner illumination, has purified the en-
tire Raghu lineage, its past, present and future. This is true
of all seekers and their lineages, any time everywhere.
Remember, the reading and reflection of all that transpired
in the palace of Ayodhya between the great Sage and the
earnest Prince is an ever-living dialogue, which should sing

Raghu reign prosperously, with infantry, cavalry,

     with their glory always ascending.
What Sage Vasishtha has to tell Rama is to enable Sage
Vishwamitra to complete his Yāga, which was obstructed
by Ravana’s men. Further, together with his father, he
should rule the prosperous kingdom, maintaining all the
defence forces consisting of infantry, cavalry, chariots and

elephants. Rule with good health, without fear, with all the
greatness and glory that go with the sovereign throne and
its disciplines and elegance.
See how complete and fulfilling is the content and mes-
sage of true spiritual instruction! It takes into account
the age and all its allied factors very judiciously. Rama
is a young Prince of the famous Raghu dynasty. He was
only 16 years old, yet to become an adult. Meanwhile his
ambitious pilgrimage brought him to untold grief and mis-
ery he could hardly even dream of. But all that augured
extremely well because it led him to seeking lasting relief
from Sage Vasishtha.
Be an ornament to your mind and intellect
It all began when Sage Vishwamitra had suddenly arrived
in Ayodhya to take Rama with him to deal with Ravana’s
men who obstructed the Sage’s Yāga. Dasharatha was un-
willing to part with Rama. Vasishthadeva interfered and
said young Rama would only shine far better under the
care of Vishwamitra, and the King should gladly send the
son with him.
It was then that Dasharatha disclosed Rama’s miserable
plight. Vasishthadeva then had him brought to his presence.
And then transpired all the succeeding events including the
18-day dialogue with Rama.
Now that Rama’s dejection is fully redressed, Sage Vasishtha
directs he should go and ensure that Sage Vishwamitra’s
Yāga is rightly performed. Spiritual enlightenment is always

an addition and enrichment to human life of any kind, level
and purpose. True, it does have its ascetic overtones, but it
is never negligent of the common duties and compulsions
of men and women.
What a fitting finale to Rama’s plight of torment and
inaction! What secular life, involvement and relationships
cannot do, spirituality can, to the mind and intelligence
of man.
Let all these thoughts, evoking sufficient realism and
imagination, enrich and empower your minds, just as it
happened with the young Rama by the grace of Sage Va-
sishtha. Make it a point to take up the dialogue and what
it emphasizes, conveys and confirms. Let this knowledge
ornament your own mind and intellect. The benefits will
be marvellous.

That which shines in the form of this diverse uni-
verse is the supreme non-dual Truth, Brahman
     – exceedingly pure, essence of knowledge, un-
tainted, peaceful, devoid of beginning and end,
quiescent, in the nature of unbroken blissfulness,
negating all differences caused by nescience,
     ever-present, happiness incarnate, part-less, im-
measurable, form-free, not distinct to the senses,
     indescribable, interminable, self-splendorous.
Consciousness manifests our three states

plays cyclically. Through these three

and magnitude.
                                                 (kaivalyatā).
In sleep Consciousness reveals its
own alone-ness (kaivalyatā) to such an extent, that we
cannot even objectify it as this or that. Sleep is unlike all
we know in wakefulness, an infinite display of manifoldness.

                                                          22
Yet, everyone sleeps. What is sleep like, none can say, as
he loses his concurrent awareness, unlike in his waking
state, which distinguishes sleep from the other two states.
Dream is an intermediate state, into which the sleeper
occasionally slips. As it occurs within sleep, we cannot say
anything specifically about it, as we do in wakefulness. But
dream is the state which shows us indisputably that the
Consciousness manifesting wakefulness and withdrawing it
in sleep, has all potential to display anything and every-
thing without help from a second factor. Consciousness’s
creative potential is conclusively evident from dream. Con-
sciousness brings into force time, space and objects. If a
creator, a ‘God’, is necessary for creation of objects, then
Consciousness brings that ‘God’ first, and through Him the
dream creation.
Non-objective being alone originates objective
beings
Seeker does not have to think any further to know about
the infinite potential of (sleeping) Consciousness. From the
nothing and nowhere in sleep, in dream, Consciousness
instantaneously brings all, the space for them to be, the
properties belonging to all, and unhindered interactions
between them, as transpires in wakefulness. You need no
further proof to know what this Consciousness is, and how
it does its magic.
All this display comes from nowhere and ‘nothingness’
of the sleep state. The source is clear, its potential and

emerge from only something other
than the manifold. Only a ‘no thing’ (a non-objective be-
ing) can give rise to all (objective) things. This is a point
that all thinking individuals must grasp.
The law of the material world is that each species is born
of its own lineage, parents. But when it comes to giving
birth to all, the source cannot be like any one of the many.
It should be non-many, exclusively itself alone. That is what
you find as the indwelling Presence of the sleeper.
It is unlike everything and all we encounter, and can think
of. So, here Shankara describes how Brahman, the Supreme,
is different from all factors we know and deal with.
The source of all
It is clear that some brilliance is expressing itself as all
that our senses reveal as manifold. That never changes
or tapers off. It is non-dual, the supreme Reality. We need
not go anywhere in search of it. It is right within our sleep
state, which on waking reports about sleep, characterizing
it as free of all wakeful agitation and pleasant to the full.
This essence in you is not a nothing, but the source and
terminus of all. Its descriptions can only be a negation of
all we see, hear, smell, taste and touch, and their diversity.

Features of the Presence within
Shankara gives twenty descriptions of this wonderful, inef-
fable Presence in us. With the help of each, seeker should
reflect repeatedly upon the subject, until at last he grasps,
perceives and realizes this source and terminus of creation,
like the vast sky with its autumn blue.
Think of the supreme Presence as devoid of all impuri-
ties, mind and intelligence conceive of. It is the source,
content and essence of all knowledge expressed by words
and ideas. It cannot be tainted by any activity, physical,
mental, intellectual or ego-based; it is placid and peaceful,
unlike what we experience in dream and wakeful states. It
is unborn and undying. It does not grow or shrink.
It is the only Presence that is neither caused nor can be
undone any time. Nothing acts on it; it does not, there-
fore, act itself, as it is full everywhere and cannot vibrate
or move the least. It is like the infinite universe, which
cannot move, but which lets all things within it move
and vibrate. It is blissfulness, incessant and indivisible, like
what you experience in sleep, self-inhering.
On comprehending or experiencing it, all differential notions
will cease for ever. It is seen and felt as many. Differences
are a creation of nescience, not a real becoming at all.
It can never become absent. A thing changes only when
another acts on it. The Self being singular, nothing else is
there to act on it.
It is sentient, and hence causes feeling and experience. It is

happiness, contentment, joy and delight, un-transforming,
uncreated and hence abundant always. Being not materi-
al, it has no parts, hence is unformed, form-free. On that
ground, it is not distinct for the senses. Senses can grasp
only material objects.

presented. With the contemplation on
these, seeker has to rise from the known, to the unknown.
Do not doubt whether there is any such Presence. Do you
not feel and say ‘I’, in wakefulness, as the ground for all
your thoughts, feelings and actions? Have you yet known
it? But is there not such a ceaseless Presence in you?
Are you not that? The question is only to experience it
properly, to the exclusion of all objects.
Think: what is the source of all physical, mental and intel-
lectual activities and expressions! Any effect definitely has
its cause. The cause alone becomes the effect. From the
effects you experience, reach at their source. This Presence,
primordial and ultimate, never shrinks nor goes out of
expression. It is interminable. Entire visibles remain where
they are only due to this central unshakeable Presence.
It is the sovereign splendour itself, self-revealing. All revela-

Presence clearly.

transitory, and land on the eternal.
But the whole process does not involve any journey in
the sensory world, together with your body and senses.
Whole voyage is experiential, in knowledge, by mind and
intelligence alone.

That the mind, intelligence and ego are inside the body,
being not physical, they can permeate the body, is well-
known to all. With this knowledge, the seeker has to enter
within the body and conduct the voyage.
Tripuṭī – knower, knowable and knowing
For this, the analysis which will be of immediate and
immense help is to go into the three constituents of the
knowing function itself: He who wants to know, and sub-
sequently knows, is the knower. Before him stands the
knowable, to be known. The knower initiates the knowing
process, interaction with the knowable. As a result, arises
the knowledge he seeks.
Dissolution of tripuṭī How can

ing process are there at all. Are not the
three transpiring in Consciousness, which is not physical?
Being so, how can there be any distance, formation, divi-
sions, etc. at all in the process, within Consciousness? All
the three together with allied factors are merely notional.
Notion does not affect Consciousness. There cannot be any
division or divided factors within the body.
Leave all such ideas. Consciousness, the singular Presence
alone is. By virtue of its inscrutable power, it gives rise to
plural notions. Notions arise and subside like thoughts,
feelings and emotions.

Understand this well. The real Presence within the body,
the supreme Reality, is the one Consciousness. There is
no doubt, or even scope for doubt about this. That there
is such a Presence is undoubtable.
As Consciousness is supra-material and supra-energial, it is
indivisible, like space. It is the power and Presence called
knowledge, sentience. This Consciousness is the supreme
Truth. It is one that wakes you up from sleep, expresses
and extends your entire wakeful phenomena, all by itself.
Wakefulness is something that occurs in the sleeper, and
then extends as the manifold universe. If you have any
doubt, wait till the end of the day. Right then, the same
Consciousness withdraws the wakeful world, obliterates it
completely, by going into sleep, within the body.
To prove that the inner Presence alone
does project the world, it causes the Does it not

akin to the waking world appears in all potential of the
its details, but within the body. Does it Consciousness?
not prove beyond doubt the creative
potential of the Consciousness?
It also leaves the dream state to be wakeful. What do these
clearly point? The inner Consciousness, singular in every
way, alone becomes the waking state, sinks into sleep, slips
into dream, and then exits into wakefulness to replace the
individual dream by collective wakefulness, enabling many
to interact with each other.

Knowers know this inner Consciousness as the supreme,
un-negatable, singular Truth, as the source of all knowl-
edge, of wakefulness, sleep as well as dream, proving its
sovereignty and supremacy in every way!

Many faces, some known, some unknown, but all so wel-

most endearing smile. As I prostrated, he asked so many
questions about my well-being, my work, etc. His love,

As I made a small offering of some sweets, he said some-

mine that I can offer you?’” I was speechless!! Even though

about the bondages and shackles of our mind, and how
we should go about nurturing our mind and intelligence to
rid ourselves of these bondages. And how we should do
the practice of shining our minds like shining a vessel in
the house so we can always feel the fountain of joy within.
The opportunity of seva that I got in Annakshetra and
packing of prasada for Dana Satram was a great learning
experience too. I observed that each act was done with
a feeling of devotion, with love for the person receiving,

with full attention to the minutest details. Always used to
doing things in a hurry and not bothering with details, it
all appeared little slow and drawn out. But I soon learnt
from Ma and Namrataji that doing these small acts with
love and care, helps us cleanse our own inner selves and
makes our mind more receptive to the all-embracing Divine.
Chanting of shlokas during prayers in Annakshetra before
meals, and their collective vibrations, raised in me a strong
urge to learn them and understand their meaning.
Pushpa-samarpanam and Paada pooja. This sublime cere-
mony used to be my most cherished moment of the day,
where I learned the meaning of devotion and love for the
Guru and how to express it. And the loving hand of Swamiji
on my head, his comforting smile that he is there whatever
comes my way, was the best prasada for me.
v Smt Soma Chakraborty:
On 24th November 2023 night Poojya Swamiji and Ma
arrived in CIRD Vasundhara. Diyas (earthen lamps) were lit
and many devotees were present with flowers to shower
on the car in which Swamiji and Ma were travelleing. Bell
was rung loudly. My son blew the conch. Many devotees
from Delhi and around the area had been in Ashram since
morning. For one full year I was waiting to see Swamiji and
Ma. Their loving, joyful glance made me so happy.
Paada pooja. On 26 November morning I was informed
that Siba and I will be doing Paada Pooja. For a few sec-
onds I could not respond, could only meekly say “okay”. I

sweater. We were taken to Ma’s room. This was the first
time I saw her room. We both prostrated before her and
saw her ever-smiling face. She explained everything to us
and said not to get tensed. I felt so grateful to be chosen.
The Hall was full of people. I felt as though I was in trance
– hearing Swamiji but not fully. Ma spoke about the signif-
icance of the ceremony. Then Siba and myself sat in front
of Swamiji and performed Guru Archana. Every step we did
with bhakti and humility – washing his feet, drying, deco-
rating them with Chandan and Kumkum, offering flowers
at Swamiji’s feet, performing the aarati… Garlands were
offered to Swamiji and Ma. There was no rush. Swamiji
was quietly sitting absorbed. The whole time my mind felt
still, like space.
Bathing in Knowledge. I never missed any program of 47th
Jñāna-yajña. I immensely enjoyed Swamiji’s Eternal Values
in Bhagavad Gita (from 6 - 7.15 pm) for 4 days, Pushpa-sa-
marpanam and Prabhata-rashmiḥ and 2 days of Q&A. Also
Ma’s talks on ‘Joy of Self-purification’ for 3 days.
I was hearing them thoroughly and thinking that I am
gulping the messages shared by the enlightened souls, but
I should also inculcate them in my life. I was praying for
that. Poojya Swamiji was trying to pour all his energy to
imprint Bhagavad Gita knowledge in our mind so that we
practise the wisdom in our daily chores. He emphasised
on reading, understanding, chanting and contemplating.

He also asked us to use our Intelligence to assess our-
selves while dealing with others. Ma was trying to make
us understand the process of self-purification, and said.
“Whatever we want, it can be ours. We can get drenched

Seva. I was made part of Annakshetra Seva team. Many
devotees who were associated with CIRD for long were
much more experienced and guided the newcomers with
the systems and observations.
I liked the chanting of Bhagavad Gita (Ch.15) and Brah-
marpanam shlokas before food. Serving lunch and dinner,
looking at the happy faces of guests, gave me immense
happiness. After the guests started their meal, most of the
serving team members used to rush with food buckets for
second and third helping of the food items. Then, along
with cleaning staff, sometimes cleaning the tables, filling
fresh water, clearing food items as well as the big tum-
blers and buckets to be washed by the staff. Walking from
the Dining Hall to the Kitchen, every day I used to look
at Swamiji’s photo on Annakshetra-wall and say. “Please
check that I do my work well and the guests are happy”.
I also became part of Annakshetra meetings for feedback
and improvements, which sometimes would end late at
night. Ma was concerned about me going home so late,
once asked two devotees to walk with me back to my
Apartment which is close by. Ma appreciated that I was
proactive in meetings and encouraged me. Since I was

v Dr Yashvir Mathur:
A seeker’s life is filled with contentment. Although twists
and turns of day-to-day living try to disrupt the peace of
mind, there is always a promise of seeking refuge in the
lotus feet of our Guru, mentally placing oneself in the lap
of the comfort-provider and guide.
Preparing to receive our Guru. Poojya Swamiji’s annual
Delhi Jñāna-yajña is a festival of inner joy for all his disciples
and seekers of Truth. On entering the gates of CIRD, what
struck me was the oasis-like ambience of the Centre in the
midst of concrete jungle. Frantic preparations were going
on – cleaning and exposing to sunlight the various linen,
testing and checking the PA equipment, the air purifiers,
room heaters, water heating systems in various rooms. In
the subsequent days I tried to help whatever best I could.
The day Poojya Swamiji was to arrive in Delhi had come.
I reached the arrival gate and waited along with other
devotees who had come to receive Swamiji and Ma. All
of us were filled with silent joy. Amidst cold weather of
Delhi with its chilly breeze, we welcomed Poojya Swamiji
and Ma with flower petals showered on their path.
Next few days of the Yajna were like a dream. What could
be better than to have Swamiji and Ma so close to you
and living with you at your home town! Each and every
devotee got soaked in the nectarine presence of divinity.

In the Company of the Wise. Apart from the daily satsangs
and Pushpa-samarpanam where we all had a chance to
meet and seek Poojya Swamiji’s and Ma’s blessings, there
were other occasions where I had opportunities to inter-
act with them. Walking around the pathways of the CIRD
complex and the Green belt were such occasions where
one could see Swamiji’s and Ma’s energetic stocktaking of
the new plants and trees as well as progress of various
works being undertaken. These occasions instilled in me
a sense of belongingness and peace.
One day I brought my wife and children to the Centre and
on another day my father and my sister. It was all differ-
ent for them, visiting an Ashram and meeting a Sadguru.
Eating in the Annakshetra was a sublime experience for
them and they thoroughly relished it. I feel whosoever
comes in contact with Swamiji and Ma is really fortunate.
Reaching out to the Poor. One day, small children from an
NGO “Gurukul” visited the Ashram. They sat quietly and
gazed expectantly at Poojya Swamiji and Ma who were
sitting in front of them in the Satsang hall. I noticed their
innocent smiles and they all listened to the inspiring words
of Poojya Swamiji with rapt attention. Their faces lit up on
receiving the winter-woollens and dry-fruit-prasada from
Swamiji. Subsequently they queued up to Annakshetra
and had a wholesome meal. Swamiji and Ma were there
ensuring each and every child is served properly with af-
fection and love.

Daana Satra exposed the misery faced by the people living
around. We visited various slums around CIRD, distribut-
ing tokens for the eligible Daana recipients. This was the
first time I got exposed to the stark reality of the people
who serve us daily. These are the very maids who make
our life comfortable and look after our children when we
are at work. They are our drivers, chaiwalas, rikshawalas,
washermen and other helpers. Though these people work
in plush homes and look after the needs of the wealthy,
their own children are growing in filthy homes, with no ed-
ucation and hygiene, in utter neglect. We were surrounded
by children, men and women in the slums, each one of
them wanting to have a token.
On the day of Daana Satra, people had queued up very
early. Poojya Swamiji and Ma addressed them expressing
their gratitude for being able to serve them. They also
explained to the recipients that it is the gift of love and
sharing from devotees around the world. The recipients
were welcomed with Vedic Aarati before distributing the
blankets, dal packets and prasada with love. Children who
accompanied the parents were given woollens and dry
fruit-prasada.
There were people who had come without tokens. Poojya
Swamiji swiftly directed all of us to prepare and distribute
whatever was left with us so that no one leaves emp-
ty-handed. The last few could only get laddoo-prasada.
Later in the evening, in a clear and impersonal manner,

Swamiji and Ma took stock of the proceedings of the Daa-
na Satra and discussed what could have been done better.
Maa was especially moved to tears that winter woollens
could not be provided to all the children who had come
in large numbers with the parents.
Lord of our Hearts. I had my share of quiet discussions
with Poojya Swamiji on the progress of my Sadhana. But
I had to leave a day early. With heavy heart when I told
him that I would be leaving him, and asked when would I
meet him next, he replied. “Why don’t you take me with
you!” From that instant I have kept Poojya Swamiji in my
heart. He is always with me.
We are all seekers. We are all on a path to enlightenment.
What better could be the prospects when we know that
a living Guru is guiding and illuminating the dark and un-
known path, taking care of the sharp turns and slopes,
thorns and obstacles on the way. Poojya Swamiji, Nutan
Swamiji and Ma, we all are really blessed!

The sole purpose of Spiritual Discussion
The seekers have to be clear in their mind that
the sole purpose of spiritual discussion is to lead
the mind to its very source, the Self. They should
spread skillfully the Teacher’s words as a wide
net, and trap their own bird-like mind. Assidu-
ous introspection pursued by the intelligence
alone can act upon the desultory or digressive
mind. The power of introspection is tremendous.
Truthful introspection will surely lead the mind
to Self-absorption.

                   Back to Eternity
Balakrishnan, Thrissur
Balakrishnan left his body on
November 10. He was 81 yrs.
His last visit to the Ashram
was during Onam, when he
was barely able to walk with
a walker. Two days before his
departure, I along with Ma and
others, had gone to see him. By
that time, perhaps he had lost
the ability to recognize anybody.
Balakrishnan lived less than two
kilometres away from the Ashram. After retirement from
Army, he was initially a visitor to the Ashram, but soon
became a close associate of us all, always available for any
service the Ashram needed. His Shrimati, Saraswati - a re-
tired school teacher - also became close to the Ashram. She
used to teach the CHC students every Sunday. His daughter
Bindhya and her elder brother Biju also became fond of
us, and the whole family became devoted to spirituality
and seeking. It is always refreshing to see a whole family
being together in their spiritual inclination and service.
Balakrishnan did not enquire about seeking or its advance-
ment any time. He was always a devoted silent listener
to all my talks, whenever possible. But his interest and
dedication in serving the Ashram were quite rare.

In all the programmes held in Thrissur, particularly in the
10-day Bhaagavata Satram held in Naimisharanyam (Par-
likad) and the Gita Tattwa Sameekshaa held in Sreemoo-
lasthanam, Balakrishnan used to faithfully handle our book
counter. He was very particular that the participants in
the event come to know of our books and what each of
them contains. He used to take the trouble of explaining
the contents to the seekers, which made it easy for those
who wished to procure them.
Whenever needed, Balakrishnan also used to manage the
reception office in the Ashram, receiving calls and also di-
recting people to their respective rooms when they arrived.
The front office of the Ashram fulfils a very important role
in familiarizing the visitors with the Ashram, its routines
and activities.
We shall certainly be missing him, thereby remembering
him even more. It is a blessing to Saraswathy that their
two children are quite exposed to the Ashram and our
association. I can only say that they should incorporate
the values and goals their father cherished and pursue
them wholeheartedly in their life. This will be the best
nitya-śrāddha for the departed father. I wish Saraswathy
and the children to take to the event in all holiness, whole-
someness and harmony.
Ma writes:

a bright young girl, Bindhya who lived near the Ashram.

Very soon, her mother Saraswathy came to the Ashram to
meet Swamiji and all of us. I still remember Saraswathy’s
words, “If you give some work to Bindhya’s father, he will
definitely come and take it up; he will not come otherwise.”
How true were her words!
I don’t remember how and when Balakrishnanji, Bindhya’s
father, started coming, but very soon he became a part and
parcel of the Ashram. He started coming regularly.
His foremost love became Poojya Swamiji’s books and Ash-
ram publications. He took upon himself the task of exposing
and distributing Ashram publications to people. Because
of his dedicated effort, a mobile publication department
used to follow Swamiji’s car wherever Swamiji went. Along
with books, very soon, cassettes, CDs and photos of Poojya
Swamiji were also travelling to various destinations.
Meanwhile, both Saraswathy and Balakrishnanji received
Brahma-vidya initiation from Poojya Swamiji.
Balakrishnanji has been very methodical, prompt and sin-
cere in his work. So, when the Śrīmad Bhāgavata Tattva
Sameeksha Satram started in 2002, he very soon took
charge of the Book-counter with all heart and soul, a re-
sponsibility which he shouldered till last year even though
his body was suffering from acute ill-health. The Satram
being 25 km away, he used to start from the Ashram early
in the morning to open the book counter and return at
night every day.

was founded in 2008 and Swamiji travelled to various Metro
cities where conventions were held, it was Balakrishnanji
who would carry all books by train and open book counters
in each place.
As he used to come to the Ashram very regularly, he met
all visiting devotees from India and abroad and grew hearty
and loving relationships with one and all. He was always
one of the group travelling with Swamiji to different CIRDs
(Centre for Inner Resources Development) where Swamiji
conducted annual Jñāna-yajñas.
I have found Balakrishnanji very loving and caring. His
gentle love and devotion for his Gurudev was expressed
in all his behaviour. Whatever Swamiji asked him to do,
he was ever ready unquestioningly. Seeing his sense of
responsibility and commitment, Swamiji asked him to
arrange all the paper reports, articles and photos of the
spirituo-social movements which Swamiji had taken up
between 1984-1995. He dedicatedly completed the project
which remains for posterity.
Ill-health struck him. He could not come to the Ashram
regularly any more. He was hospitalized a couple of times.
But still, he took charge of the book counter in Satram last
year, in spite of all of us requesting him not to. It seems
he told his team members that next year he might not
be there.
He visited the Ashram last, during Onam this year. How
lovingly the whole family – Biju, his son with his family,

daughter Bindhya and family, and also wife Saraswathy –
had brought him to the Ashram even though he was weak
and could hardly walk. I noticed the great tenderness and
love with which Biju and Bindhya were handling their sick
father. Something to be seen and appreciated.
Hearing Balakrishnanji’s condition had become critical we
went to see him accompanying Swamiji. The end came two
days later. Swamiji had told the whole family not to grieve.
After all the rituals were over, Biju and Bindhya came to
meet Swamiji to tell him their feelings. As they spoke, I
saw in their faces and heard in their voices a unique love
for their father and a great fulfilment of having got the
opportunity to be with him and serve him during his sick-
ness. It seemed they had not lost him at all as he occupied
their minds and hearts fully.
In our minds too, Balakrishnanji remains eternally in great
fondness and love.
Daughter Bindhya writes:
Father left us at the age of 81. I have heard from my father
and mother that right from his youth, father had a fair
share of responsibility as the head of a family consisting of
5 sisters and 2 uncles and their families. It was a turning
point in his life when he joined Indian Military Service at
the age of 18. Our parents presented a model married-life
before us. They had to live away from each other for a long
time due to their careers. They made that sacrifice for a
good future for us.

My indebtedness to him begins from there. He has done
whatever was necessary at the right time with precision
and perfection in my brother’s and my life. We utilized his
ability to arrive at right decision based on his own expe-
riences, for making all major decisions in our life. He was
the source of trust for us. Father maintained sincerity in
his relationship with all. We understood it more from what
others said about him after he dropped his body.
Father had been associated with Swamiji for the last 20
years. He used to consider the publication department as
his very own. He was a very stable person and used to face
all illnesses with a lot of inner strength. “My illness will go
after a few days. After that I will go again to Ashram”, he
would say.
On the occasions when all of us children, grandchildren are
at home, father would celebrate it like a festival. He knew
the magic to lead the family by keeping everyone happy
and peaceful. His passing away is an irreparable loss to our
family. I wish that we are able to take forward the good
thoughts and deeds that he imparted to us.
Son Biju writes:
I always felt that my Father loved my sister, more than me,
which I never envied. Now, after his demise, I can see how
he has made me - to take care of a lot of things.

and grandparents in Thrissur - to stay with my father for 5
yrs. I still wonder how he took the decision to move me to
Bombay without having a full-time person to take care of
me. I came back to Kerala to complete my 10th and 12th
standard education, and then again went to Bombay with
my father.
From that time, I started observing him and I can say he
has lived his life at its fullest. He took care of his 5 sisters,
parents, maternal and paternal houses, cousins, friends,
neighbours, grandchildren and everyone around him. He had
a great friends-circle. In those 8 yrs with him in Mumbai
he taught me finance, language, discipline, grace, pride,
courage, passion, empathy and love …. Many of which I
now apply in my life.
He came back to Thrissur to live with my mother and sister
at the time when they really wanted him. He started his
Ashram association 20 years back and lived life with passion
and devotion towards Swamiji.
All of these traits were recollected by those who visited
us and are still visiting us. I can’t be more fortunate and
blessed to have a father like him who was never disturbed
about the material things.
Before his demise, Swamiji visited our house and asked us
to be enriched by his remembrance - a great way to com-
plete my father’s life.

 47th Annual Jñāna-yajña at Delhi (24 Nov - 04 Dec,
2023)
As mentioned in the December 2023 Vicharasethu, ex-
tremely high levels of air pollution in Delhi NCR resulted
in re-scheduling the 47th Annual Delhi Jñāna-yajña. Since
quality of air is an annual problem in Delhi during winter
months, it has been decided that from 2024 onwards, the
Annual Delhi Jñāna-yajña will be in March and the Sadhana
Shibiram in Delhi will be in October.
The Delhi Jñāna-yajña commenced with the Paada Pooja on
Nov 26. Smt Siba Saraswathy and Smt Soma Chakraborty
performed the Paada Pooja. Reports by 3 devotees expe-
riencing the Delhi Jñāna-yajña for the first time, appear

 Daana Satram (Dec 02):
This year, each of the 1000 families selected from the
slums in and around Vasundhara, was given one blanket, 1
kg of dal, and laddu prasada. Children remained foremost
in Poojya Swamiji’s and Ma’s minds. Ma suggested that
we must have sufficient winter woollens for the children
who accompany their parents to receive the dana; and
some nutritious dry-fruit-prasada also should be given to
the children.
Accordingly almost 600 warm jackets of multiple sizes were
bought. And dry-fruit-prasada packets were also prepared.

Sadly they were not sufficient! For each joyful child who
received a jacket, the memory of a disappointed face hov-
ers in the mind.
Subsequent to the distribution on Dec 02, Swamiji asked
CIRD volunteers to arrange for jackets for another 1000
children. Although Swamiji and Ma returned to Ashram
on Dec 04, volunteers dedicatedly continued, tirelessly
purchasing, sorting, labelling and distributing the jackets
along with chocolate-prasada.
With blessings of Poojya Swamiji, Nutan Swamiji and Ma,
distribution to about 850 children in the slum areas of Delhi
and Ghaziabad was completed by December 20.
Maha-samadhi Day of Mataji Sulabha Devi (Dec 17):
The 34th Mahasamadhi day of Mataji Sulabha Devi was
observed in Ashram on Dec 17 through touching and se-
rene remembrance. Since many new devotees were there,
the programme in Vijnana Bhavan commenced with Ma
introducing them to the history of the Ashram and the
significant role Mataji played in establishing it. Through
Ma’s open and loving narrative, Mataji’s presence came
alive for everyone.
Poojya Swamiji spoke about Mataji, emphasizing that each
one of us should ponder over “how could Mataji decide to
take up sannyasa in pursuit of her spiritual life”. Swamiji
exhorted everyone to reflect on Sannyasa, the last ashra-
ma (life stage), that brings fulfilment in human life. After

Swamiji accompanied by Nutan Swamiji and Ma led the
way from Prajnana Dham to Samadhi Mandir, which was
beautifully decorated with flowers and kolam.
‘Hare rama’ mahā-mantra echoed in Samadhi Mandir while
devotees, Ashram staff and assistants offered flowers at
Poojya Swamiji’s feet and Mataji’s Samadhi. Offering pra-
nams to Nutan Swamiji and Ma, they then received prasada
from Swamiji. Bhakti Bhoj was offered to all.

22 – 31, 2023):
 Pre-Satram programmes
Pratishtha of new Shrine and erecting the Dhvaja Stam-
bham (Dec 20):
On Dec 20, as part of the Satram prequel activities, Poojya
Swamiji consecrated a beautiful small shrine of Mahavish-
nu, built newly at the entrance of Sabha Niketan. Swamiji’s
consecration of the shrine and installing Mahavishnu-idol
was a rare auspicious occasion that Nutan Swamiji, Ma
Gurupriyaji, Maharshi Devapalanji, Mataji Sivapriya, Mataji
Svayamprabha as well as devotees arriving for Satram from
different parts of India and abroad, were blessed to witness.
Poojya Swamiji had composed four Sanskrit ślokas to ex-
press the divine purpose the idol is to serve. These ślokas
were engraved on a brass plate which was covered with a
thin copper plate. Swamiji laid the śloka-plaque under the
base stone for the Idol, and the Idol over it. Before placing
the idol, Swamiji explained the meaning of the verses, and
the purpose of the shrine, to all present:

“OM. Although You shine always everywhere by Your bril-
liance, the common intelligence is not able to grasp your
presence. Therefore, O Lord, for the benefit of devotees, You
abide in this idol, seeing which the devotee must meditate
on the Truth repeatedly.
Then, having gained discrimination, may the devotee see
You everywhere all the time, and becoming fulfilled, begin
to abide in his own heart rejoicing in the natural, sponta-
neous joy within. May all nurture devotion and dispassion
enhancing their Self-knowledge, and by Your overflowing
grace, attain Self-realization.”
After this ceremony, the magnificent teak-wood flag-post
(Dhvaja-stambham) on which the Satram flag would be
hoisted during the inauguration of SBTSS, was erected.
Bhāgavata Grantha-ratham (Dec 21): Śrīmad Bhāgava-
ta Grantham (with Sri Sreedharacharya’s annotation), was
read daily by Mataji Sulabha Devi in the Ashram. The same
book was taken ceremonially to Naimisharanyam on Dec
21, in a beautifully decorated shrine, to be placed on the
Sabha Niketan Vedi (stage) to bestow auspicious blessings
during the 10-day Satram.
Before carrying the shrine from the Ashram, Poojya Swa-
miji addressed the assembled devotees and villagers. Ārati

was performed with Vedic Mantras. The Grantham was
carried and placed in the Ratham (Chariot) for its journey
to Naimisharanyam, as sublime chanting of Hare Rama
Mahā-mantra resounded. On the way, the procession trav-
elled through villages and temples where many families
offered dravya-samarpaṇam (rice, vegetables, and other
food materials) for the Satram.
 Inaugural Day (Dec 22):
Poojya Swamiji, accompanied by Nutan Swamiji, Ma
Gurupriyaji, Sannyasins, honourable invitees, prominent
personages and joyful devotees entered the precincts of
the holy Sabha Niketan as the auspicious sound of pan-
cha-vadyam (traditional orchestra of percussion and wind
instruments) filled the air.
Offering pranams at the ‘Vishnu Mandapam’, they proceed-
ed to the Dhvaja Stambham where the sacred Bhāgavata
Satram flag was hoisted. At the entrance of Sabha Niketan,
a divine atmosphere was created as the procession of
revered Sannyasins and others was welcomed with push-
pa-vrishti (shower of flower-petals from above) and the
holy sound of conch, bells and pancha-vadyam resounded
in the atmosphere.
 Inaugural Address
Swami Narasimhanandaji Maharaj, President, Sri Ramakrish-
na Mutt, Kozhikode, lighted the lamp to inaugurate the
22nd Satram in the presence of Poojya Swamiji, revered
Sannyasins and local dignitaries. In his inaugural address,

Swami Narasimhanandaji emphasized: “The backbone of
Indian culture is Spirituality and it cannot be changed. Śrī-
mad Bhāgavatam helps us understand our Spiritual nature
through various descriptions and narrations, by beautifully
amalgamating jñāna and bhakti.”
Poojya Swamiji thundered that our spiritual literature
including Śrīmad Bhāgavatam deals with universal values
to be practised by one and all irrespective of one’s reli-
gious, national or racial identity. Our effort to propagate
this universal knowledge through Śrīmad Bhāgavata Tattva
Sameeksha Satram can never be stamped as religious ac-
tivity. Everybody, especially our government authorities,
must understand and appreciate this fundamental truth.
 Book release:
Poojya Swamiji’s long awaited book “Bhagavad Gita Tat-
tva-praveshika” – Malayalam version of “Insights into
Bhagavad Gita”, was released by Smt Saritha Iyer. Swami
Sadbhavanandaji Maharaj, President, Sri Ramakrishna Mutt,
Thrissur, received the first copy. The 824-page book which
covers 700 slokas of Bhagavad Gita has been translated
into Malayalam by Poojya Swamiji himself. The emphasis
is on how to apply the knowledge of Bhagavad Gita in
everyday life.
 Nāma-saṅkeertana-pradakṣiṇa:
