INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES:
This paper consists of two examination items. Answer both items in this paper.
You are provided with support files in the folder EJEB S4 Support Files on the
computer desktop. Use the support files where applicable to supplement the items.
You are provided with a new blank Compact Disc (CD).
Use a permanent marker to write your name, random number and personal
number on your CD.
You should continuously save your work.
You must produce a hard copy for each of your work to accompany a soft copy on
the Compact Disc (CD).

Item 1
Tickle is a day and boarding secondary school, charging Shs. 500,000 and Shs.
950,000 for day and boarding students respectively. The school bursar keeps
student records of fees payments on sheets of papers. At times, some of these
payment records have been misplaced and others at times destroyed by forces of
nature. As a result, some parents have made double payments and others have
taken advantage of the system leading to big losses to the school. In one of the
Parents’ Teachers meeting, parents strongly commented about errors usually
made in financial statements presented to them.
One new parent advised and suggested to the school, a computerized system be
adopted to manage fees payments. The idea was welcomed but the bursar and
other stake holders lack ICT skills.
The records from papers were extracted and provided in the support file,
Payment Records.doc, and a sample notice for students with fees balance in the
file Defaulters.doc.
Task
Using the support files provided;
(a) Create an electronic storage of students’ fees payment records and use it to
generate;
(i) Fees Balance for every student;
(ii) A graphical representation of fees paid.
(b) Generate a printable document for each student as a reminder to parents or
guardians about fees balance.
Item 2
Hotel Tickle is a modern, luxurious 4-star hotel located in the city center. The
hotel has a restaurant and bar, swimming pool, free high speed internet, luxury
guest rooms, airport pick up/drop of service, to mention but a few. The managers
of this hotel wish to embark on ICT usage to fully interact with and attract more
customers to their hotel as well as getting feedback from the customers.
They also intend to provide an active form for those customers who would wish
to book for services in this hotel.
Task
Develop an online platform that implements the aids managers have about their
business. A support folder called Tickle-Hotel has been provided containing
some files which may be used.
