Effects of time
management towards
learning performance
among Grade 7 Students
in Buenos Aires
Integrated School, School
Year 2024
This study aims to determine the effects of time management towards
learning performance among Grade 7 students. Specifically, it sought the
following:
1. Determine the effects of time management towards the students.
2. Assess the learning performance among Grade 7 students.
3. Determine if the effects of time management is significantly related
towards Grade 7 students.
Scope
The study will focus on the effects of time management on learning
performance among Grade 7 students at Buenos Aires Integrated School
during the school year 2024. This study will aim to investigate the
relationship between time management skills and academic performance,
and identify the factors that influence effective time management among
students. The study will be conducted at Buenos Aires Integrated School, and
the sample will consist of Grade 7 students. The study will use a survey
questionnaire to collect data on time management skills and learning
performance, and be analyzed using statistical methods to determine the
relationship between the two variables.
Delimitation
The study will be limited to Grade 7 students at Buenos Aires Integrated
School , and the finding may not be generalizable to other grade levels or
schools. The study will focus on the effects of time management on learning
performance, and may not explore other factors that may influence
academic performance, such as motivation, study habits, or teacher
effectiveness. The study will be conducted during the school year 2024, and
the findings may not be applicable to previous or future school years. The
study will use a survey questionnaire to collect data, and the results may be
affected by the limitations of self-reported data, such as social desirability
bias or recall bias. Overall, the study will aim to provide insights into the
importance of time management for learning performance among Grade 7
students Buenos Aires Integrated School, and identify strategies for
improving time management skills to enhance academic performance.
Significance of the study
The significance of a study about the effect of time management on learning
performance among Grade 7 students in Buenos Aires Integrated School
during the 2024 school year is multifaceted. Here are the several key points
that highlight it’s importance:
Educational Improvement: Understanding how time management influences
learning performance can lead to sights that help educator’s develop
strategies to enhance students’ academic outcomes. Improved learning
performance can result from effective time allocation for studying,
completing assignments, and engaging in extracurricular activities.
Students skills Development: The study can advocate for the teaching of
time management skills which are essential for students are they transition
to higher levels of education. Mastering this skills can lead to enhance self-
discipline, organization, and prioritization, how students approach their
studies and personal lives.
Coping Strategies: Grade 7 is often a critical development stage for students,
both academically and personally. By examining the relationship between
time management and performance, the study can provide insights into how
students can better manage academic pressures and responsibilities,
ultimately reducing stress and promoting a healthier school-life balance.
By addressing these aspect, the study can contribute significantly not only to
academic performance but also to the overall personal development of
students, ultimately preparing them for future educational pursuits and life
challenges.
Review of Related Literature (RRL)
Time management refers to the process of planning and exercising conscious
control over the amount of time spent on specific activities. According to
Britton and Tesser (1991), effective time management allows individuals to
prioritize tasks, minimize stress, and achieve their academic goals. This
practice is particularly vital for students, as it directly influences their
learning performance and overall academic success. Research indicates that
time management skills play a crucial role in students’ academic
performance. According to Macan (1994), students who have strong time
management skills tend to achieve higher grades and report lower levels of
anxiety. Time management strategies, such as setting specific goals,
creating schedules, and prioritizing tasks, are linked to improved academic
outcomes (Hirschy, Bremer, & Castellanos, 2011). A meta-analysis conducted
by Zimmerman and Kitsantas (2005) demonstrated a strong correlation
between time management practices and academic performance among
students. They found that students who engage in regular planning, goal-
setting, and self-monitoring exhibit higher academic achievement. This
finding resonates with studies focused on middle school students, where
time management is essential for balancing multiple subjects and
extracurricular activities (Keller, 2006). The transitional phase of Grade 7 can
be challenging for students as they adapt to new academic demands and
social environments. Research by Krause and Coates (2008) emphasizes that
adolescents, such as those in Grade 7, often face difficulties in managing
their time due to newfound independence and an increasing workload.
Developing effective time management skills during this critical period can
lead to enhanced academic performance and personal development. Studies
have highlighted the effectiveness of personalized time management
techniques. For instance, a study by Britton and Tesser (1991) revealed that
students who crafted personalized planners, tailored their study
environments, and set realistic deadlines not only improved their grades but
also experienced increased self-efficacy. These findings suggest that tailored
approaches to time management are particularly beneficial for middle school
students. The cultural and environmental context also impacts students’ time
management behaviors. Research by Kugler et al. (2010) suggests that
students from different educational systems and socio-economic
backgrounds exhibit varied time management practices. Thus, it is essential
to consider the specific context of Buenos Aires Integrated School when
examining the relationship between time management and academic
performance among Grade 7 students. While the benefits of time
management are clear, there are also challenges. Lack of awareness about
time management strategies, technological distractions, and personal
motivation can hinder students’ efforts (Kujundzic, 2012). Educational
interventions aimed at improving these skills need to address these
challenges proactively, providing students with the tools necessary for
effective time management.
