ACTIVITY 3: What have you learned from the networking session
that you can apply in the future? Consider how you felt in
networking - and what went well, what can be improved on.

E.G. Were you able to ask something of the networker that was
not about the job, but about them, or their chosen career? Did
you feel any connection – yes/no and why?

From this experience, I learned that communication is the key to success. Without communicating
with other people, I will never find my passion and interests. Networking with other people not
only allows one to know what they like but also trains and prepares them for the future. Meeting
with strangers and having a conversation with them is not an easy task, but being able to do so will
allow one to grow and develop their communication skills. I hesitated to ask questions in the
beginning; however, I knew I could learn a lot from them, and it’s a great opportunity for me to
connect and get to know about their career and how they found their passion and path.

Interacting with these experts not only helps me to understand myself better and deeper, but it also
enables me to keep track of myself and know what opportunities and strengths these career paths
have. During the networking session, I was able to strengthen my business connections, gain career
advice and support, and get fresh ideas from the networker. I was able to ask all kinds of questions
about work and life however, in the future I would want to approach them in other ways like
scheduling a coffee chat to make myself more recognizable. I paid close attention to what the
speakers said and tried to include those points in my speech to shows that I have interest in them as
I was told by Sean Mullin that being a great speaker, you first need to be a good listener.

I tried to start the conversation by introducing myself and asked the networkers about their lifestyle
and their nationality. I felt this help me to connect and empathize with the networker more
efficiently as I understood their background and their motivation. Some of the networkers found
their passion since their first year and some did not. But all of them were able to do so when they
took part in networking, which shows me that I am on a right track to find my dream and goals.
Some of them had a difficult time choosing their career, but because they are very motivated and
confident in what they are doing, all the problems were solved which evokes my attention.

One of the brand managers and consultants who worked in P&G told me that it’s fun and
interesting to solves other problems and that is when you learn to emphasize and put yourself in
other shoes. Moreover, I learnt that doing research and supporting your point with a real facts and
figures helps you be successful and credible. I was so connected by this as I always doubt whether I
know what I like and what I want to become. Through this networking experience, I understood
that networking is a key to become a successful businesswoman and interacting with different
people enables me to develop my communication skills and practice my listener skills.
