Description for Spring 2024
This is a cultural center with a roof system consisting of four di erent structural units. The
key feature of this design is how to capture and utilize natural light. The roof structure
unfolds from west to east, forming a dynamic wave shape. This is not random, but based on
a careful study of sunlight patterns. The structure is perpendicular to the north, allowing it to
capture sunlight most e ectively throughout the day (from sunrise to sunset). Each unit is
designed to regulate the amount of light that passes through, ensuring that the space below
always receives consistent and soft lighting. This not only makes the living and working areas
more comfortable, but also reduces the need for arti cial lighting, thereby helping to reduce
energy consumption. These circulations pass through each individual building unit, connecting
spaces and serving multiple uses. They are walkways for people, but they also establish a
direct connection from the ground to the roof, greatly enhancing accessibility and interaction
within the complex.
