1, Cách sử dụng và dấu hiệu nhận biết

- QKTD được sử dụng để diễn tả 1 hành động đã đang xảy ra tại 1 thời điểm cụ
thể trong quá khứ
 He was teaching English at 7pm yesterday/ then/ at that time/ most of the
time/ all day long.
- QKTD được sử dụng để diễn tả 2 hành động đã đang xảy ra song song với
nhau trong quá khứ.
 I was teaching English while my son was doing his homework.
- Trong trường hợp có 1 hành động đã đang xảy ra thì 1 hành động khác chen
vào thì lưu ý: Hành động đã đang xảy ra chia ở QKTD và hành động chen vào
chia ở QKĐ.
 I was teaching English when my mother called me.
 Chú ý: Một số hành động ngắn, mang tính thời điểm (stop, begin, start, finish,
phone, call, arrive, …) thì hầu hết đều chia ở quá khứ đơn, thay vì quá khứ tiếp diễn
 He arrived at home at 5pm yesterday. At that time, his wife was cooking
dinner while his son was watching TV.

 Động từ kết thúc bằng -e thì bỏ NHIỀU + WERE
e trước khi thêm -ing - I (be) WAS born in 1989.

 Động từ kết thúc bằng -ie thì yesterday.
