Topic: In some countries, young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year
between finishing high school and starting university studies.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this.
Sample answer:
Before __________college many young people are advised that spending a year
working or travelling may be a good option. This essay will suggest that saving
money is the biggest advantage of this plan and a reduced motivation to study is the
primary disadvantage.
Third-level education is very expensive and lots of students decide to work for 12
months and save up money before they begin their studies. This allows them to pay
for their living costs, tuition fees and ____________ and focus on their studies,
rather than struggle financially or have to get a part time job on top of their academic
work. The Times recently reported that the average student at a UK university
requires over $12,000 per annum just surviving and many drop out because they
cannot afford to stay.
Despite these advantages, many students often _______working or travelling and
don’t want to be a student again after a year off. This short term view can cause
some students to completely ________ university and go straight into a job that is
_________ their capabilities or may not offer the same prospects their future career
might have done. For instance, a recent survey by the British Government found that
26% of students who take a gap-year never enter __________.
In conclusion, taking a break from studies can be __________ if it allows people to
_____________, however, they should also be careful that it does not lead to
____________with education altogether.
 Bypass Accommodation Disillusionment

Topic: Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign
language at primary school rather than secondary school.
Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?
Some authorities think that it is more favourable for pupils to begin studying
languages at primary school instead of secondary school. Despite several
disadvantages that derive from the early learning, I advocate that learning a
second language is predominantly advantageous to children development.
The main reason to start kids off with foreign languages early is that this increases
the likelihood they will achieve fluency in adulthood. That is to say that they will have
far more years to perfect their skills, and speaking bilingually will seem perfectly
normal. For example, in countries such as Holland and Norway, where English is
taught from a very young age, most adults speak it at an advanced level.
Learning a second language also helps to improve overall cognitive abilities. In other
words, it benefits the overall development of a child’s brain. A recent survey by
Havard University shows that bi-lingual children are significantly more likely to score
higher in Mathematics and Science.
Those opposed to this say that it causes the child to become confused between their
mother tongue and the other language. However, there is actually no evidence to
support this view and children from bilingual families do just as well in both
languages. My son was brought up speaking both Vietnamese and English and
outperforms most of his classmates in both.
On balance, the fact that early foreign language learning leads to higher fluency and
improved brain function clearly outweighs the flawed argument that it impairs the
uptake of native languages.

Computers are becoming an essential part of school lessons. Discuss the
advantages and disadvantages and give your own opinion.
Nowadays, computers are becoming an indispensable part of school lessons since
they act as a plethora of information along with the development of interest amongst
the students, however, they do create a sense of dependence on them when used
excessively. This essay would highlight how these technological marvels prove to be
beneficial for young minds along with their downsides.
A major advantage of using this technology in the study space is that it acts as a
virtual library where students can access nearly all the information that they need.
For example, pupils can get extra details on any subject be it science or history
easily with just the click of a button. Therefore, computers act as a great tool and a
helping hand in the learner’s knowledge.
Secondly, when automation is integrated into lessons, students are expected to be
more interested in the subjects they are studying. For instance, delivering teaching
through interactive smart boards and taking students on virtual field trips as well as
using other online resources, surely enhance students’ engagement and their
experience. Thus, smart devices can encourage more active participation in the
process of education, which is hard to achieve through traditional methods.
On the other hand, a major disadvantage is a complete dependence as when
computers and other technological tools are used constantly, students develop a
dependence upon them. To illustrate, pupils, who is not in a habit to do math without
using a calculator, lose the ability to solve mathematical problems manually which
affects their analytical thinking and brain power. Hence, Students must practice
these simple skills without any external aid regularly to ensure that their competency
levels do not deteriorate.
In conclusion, I feel that the use of computers for educating children can be of great
use, but should be supervised and in my opinion, there should be a provision for
using computers only for a specified period instead of the entire day. This would
encourage maximum productivity as well as reduce the chances of addiction.

Being a celebrity, such as a famous film star or sports personality, brings
problems as well as benefits.
Do you think the advantages of being a celebrity outweigh its disadvantages?
Many people want to become famous so that they can be rich and respected.
However, although there are obvious benefits to being a celebrity, I feel that the
disadvantages are enormous.
Admittedly, the merits of ______________are immense. Firstly, the financial gains
are huge. It is because famous people are usually paid much higher than those
working in any other fields, such as education or customer service. In addition, they
can also take advantage of their fame and influence to earn more, especially from
_____________. As a result, these sources of wealth give them a luxurious lifestyle,
wearing high-end clothes and driving classic cars, which can be popularly seen on
their posts on social network sites and magazines. These benefits seem to be mostly
material.
However, despite these benefits, I believe that there are more problems for
celebrities to overcome. Although it is true that famous people can make more
money, this career is short-lived. In fact, they must retire soon and face
______________ then. For example, in Vietnam, some actors get old and struggle to
earn a livelihood, so they resort to monetary support from the public by streaming on
social network sites to ____________ their miserable conditions. Moreover,
celebrities tend to have little privacy. As the public is always interested in news about
their idols, ___________ must be constantly alert to their behaviours because any
___________ can damage their fame and career. Consequently, they are
___________ to anxiety and even depression. Undeniably, being admired by many
people is not an easy job because it is only achieved ___________ personal
freedom.
In conclusion, the financial rewards that celebrities can get can be huge, but in my
view, they must sacrifice and risk their own life to achieve them. Therefore, on
balance, the challenges of being a celebrity outweigh the advantages.
Rising to stardom disclose Public figures
