Dedication

This book is dedicated to the almighty God for his divine insight and
inspiration whilst writing this piece. It is also dedicated to all teens and
tween out there struggling with low self-confidence, that by reading this
book, they may rise from a state of low confidence to a state of high and
sheer self-confidence.
Introduction

What is Self Confidence?

When you walk into an exam hall confident, you're going to ace the test, you
have self-confidence. A person is confident when they believe they can do a
task successfully by using their judgment, knowledge, and past experiences.

Self-confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities. It implies that

you accept and trust yourself, and that you have a sense of control over
your life. You are aware of your own talents and weaknesses and have a
good self-image. You have the ability to set realistic objectives and goals,
speak assertively, and take criticism.

Low self-confidence, on the other hand, may cause you to question yourself,
be weak or subservient, or have difficulties trusting others. You may feel
inferior, neglected, or easily offended. Feeling confidence in oneself could
depend on the scenario. For instance, you can feel very confident in some
areas, such as academics, but lack confidence in others, like relationships.

Self-confidence is rarely related to actual abilities and is mostly based on

your perceptions. Perceptions are the way your think about yourself and
these thoughts can be flawed.

Growing up in an unsupportive and critical atmosphere, being away from

friends or family for the first time, evaluating oneself too harshly, or being
terrified of failure can all lead to low self-confidence. People who lack self-
confidence frequently make mistakes in their reasoning.

Where does self-confidence come from?

Two types of confidence exist:

1. Intrinsic
2. Extrinsic

Intrinsic confidence is equivalent with self-assurance. It means that your

confidence comes from within and that you are not reliant on others to give
it to you. Extrinsic confidence refers to the confidence you feel when it is
given to you. Your confidence comes from outside sources and is dependent
on others.

1. Intrinsic confidence
Intrinsic confidence is frequently used in place of self-confidence.
Confidence originates from inside and is fueled by your accomplishments
and pleasure. Contrary to common assumption, self-assurance is not
necessarily innate. According to one poll, just one in ten respondents
believe their self-confidence is inherent. Others believe that their self-
assurance is derived from other sources. This demonstrates how difficult it
is to create genuine inherent confidence. Few people have the mental
fortitude to do so, and those who do must train for years. When a person
can embrace their accomplishments and look up to themselves as someone
who should be admired, they are on the road to developing intrinsic self-
confidence.

2. Extrinsic confidence
Extrinsic confidence is when you rely on others to give you confidence.
People around you make you think that you are deserving of what you have
accomplished and motivate you to do even more. Extrinsic self-esteem is
self-esteem that comes from somewhere other than oneself. In other words,
it is the kind of self-esteem that comes from outside sources such as other
people, praises, accomplishments, or acclaim. When you need short-term
motivation, external confidence comes in handy. You can always rely on
people to encourage you for a limited time.

It is considerably easier and requires less effort to create inner confidence.

While there is nothing wrong with relying on others, extrinsic confidence is
not always sufficient. If people don't believe in us, no matter how much we
want to, we begin to doubt ourselves. It is never good to rely solely on
people for anything, let alone your source of happiness. It will always be
difficult to locate people on whom you can rely for consistent inspiration.
Chapter One

Importance and benefits of having self confidence

Many individuals are unaware of how much self-confidence may help them.
It's not only about feeling good about yourself; it's also about the
advantages. The belief in one's own skills is referred to as self-confidence.
It's knowing that you can achieve your goals and that others believe in you
as well. It is vital because it allows you to finish activities, achieve
objectives, and develop effective relationships.

Self-confidence is also the belief that people have in their skills to perform
or achieve anything, even if they are not completely confident or certain of
their talents. It can be calm confidence in one's ability to complete things on
one's own terms while remaining open to assistance.

15 Benefits of Having Self Confidence

#1. Healthy relationships

Self-confidence allows you to better understand and love others, as well as
yourself. Self-assurance also empowers you to walk away from poisonous,
taxing, and undeserved relationships.

#2. Openness to trying new things

When you believe in yourself and your abilities, it will be much simpler to
put yourself out there, whether you're signing up for a cooking class or
applying for a promotion. When you believe in yourself, you will be
intrigued and willing to attempt new things.

#3. Building Resilience

As we travel through life, we are sure to experience adversities and

obstacles, and our capacity to overcome them is decided by our resilience
level. When you believe in yourself, you may really increase your resilience.

#4. Better academic performance

Yes, self-esteem is really important in education. If you lack confidence or
faith in yourself, it will be difficult for you to succeed academically, as this is
what defines your future success.

#5. A greater self-awareness

You'll be able to tell when something isn't working, which means you'll
know what you need to focus on to boost your self-confidence; you'll also
understand yourself better and have higher levels of self-awareness.

#6. Access to more opportunities

When you have high levels of confidence, more doors will open for you,
giving you the opportunity to explore new options. Your self-assurance also
allows you to be more visible and pursue what your heart genuinely desires.
#7. Making healthier decisions

Self-confidence influences decision-making because it helps us think that we

are capable of doing anything we set out to do. It assists us in choosing
judgments that are consistent with our beliefs and morals, rather than what
others desire for us or decisions based on fear of failure.

#8. A better chance at success

People who have a high level of self-confidence are more likely to succeed
than those who do not. This is because they trust in themselves and think
that they can achieve their goals even if things don't go as planned the first
time.

Things will be easier for you now that you know you can do practically
everything you set your mind to.

#9. More courage

Self-confidence provides you the courage to defend yourself and your

opinions in public. It also gives you the insight and sound judgment that
comes from understanding who you are and what you're capable of.

#10. Increased self-control

Self-assurance will assist you in maintaining control of your behaviors and
emotions, which is vital for maintaining a stable mental state. When you are
secure in yourself, you will be able to consider before acting or responding.

#11. Better relationships with others

Self-confidence will make you a more confident person, allowing you to be

yourself around others. You won't feel as if you have something to conceal
and will be able to communicate in social situations without feeling
awkward or bashful.

When you are confident in yourself, it is simpler for others to love

themselves.

#12. Stronger sense of identity

Self-confidence allows you to be yourself and feel comfortable with who you
are, which allows you to develop your own distinct identity. It also
empowers you to discover what makes you happy and to do more of those
things.

Others will respect and admire you for who you are if you have a strong
sense of self.

#13. Ability to handle rejection

Because it permits you to keep trying until every door close, self-confidence
helps you deal with the prospect of not achieving what you desire. When
someone declines your request, you won't feel anxious or disappointed, and
you'll be able to brush it off as if nothing happened.

You will be able to go ahead without feeling like a failure because you will
know that another chance is always available to you.

#14. Higher levels of performance

When you're confident in yourself, you're more likely to succeed. However,

when you are concerned about not being good enough and everything you
do looks to be a waste of time and effort, it is hard to devote your complete
focus to your efforts.

#15. More energy

Self-confidence will motivate you to pursue your goals in life, resulting in

more time and energy for other vital things. It gives an internal fuel that
allows you to go toward your goals without being disheartened or burned
out along the way.
Chapter two

How to be self-confident in 3 steps

Society provides us with a lot of information on how to be confident. "Simply

be yourself." "You have to fake it until you make it." "Get dressed for
success." Tips come from everywhere, from moms to magazine covers.
Some of this advice can be helpful, but when we don't trust in ourselves, it
might feel ineffectual or hollow. We all struggle with unpleasant and
discouraging basic sentiments about ourselves. As a result, we may find
ourselves either plunging into self-pity or striving to boost our ego in order
to get through the day.

It has long been recognized that our ideas, whether true or false, guide our
behaviors and form our lives. The good news is that current research into
neuro plasticity shows that we can literally rewire our brains at any age to
influence our thoughts and behavior. That is, no matter how shy or doubtful
you have been in the past, developing self-confidence is essentially what
psychologists call volitional. To put it another way: "by choice." We may
progressively extend our confidence, and hence our potential to develop
more of it, with constant work and the willingness to take a risk!

Of course, confidence fluctuates throughout our lives. It is enhanced once

we win or earn praise. It suffers when our efforts fall short of expectations,
when we are chastised, rejected, or just perceive a lack of external
acknowledgement. After all, we are only human. It is therefore critical not
to become unduly reliant on external reinforcement to preserve our self-
worth, but rather to accept responsibility for the worthy behaviors required
to sustain it.

We need to go a bit deeper to actually build a solid foundation of self-

confidence. There are several psychological actions we may take to feel
better about ourselves.

Get to Know Yourself

Knowing oneself entails being aware of your own talents and flaws. That
also implies that you are aware of which aspects of your life you are
confident in and which want improvement.

It's easy to see why you're confident in your abilities. If you are skilled at
something, you are far more inclined to share your expertise or act on that
strength than on a weakness or vulnerability.

Make the most of your strengths and utilize them to boost your confidence.
If you know how to do something, be the first to raise your hand and
demonstrate or teach others how to do it. If you are confident in your
research, share your knowledge. This will improve your confidence and
make you feel fantastic.

Be Prepared
You are more confident in your abilities to complete a task when you are
prepared to execute it.

"Self-confidence is an important key to success. Preparation is a critical

component of self-assurance." - Ashe, Arthur

Preparation is a straightforward approach to increase confidence.

Think About Your Appearance

People can learn a lot about you and your level of confidence just by looking
at you. This covers your general appearance as well as your body language.
It has been proved that when people feel good about their looks, they have
more self-confidence and regard. So, utilize your looks to your advantage –
not only will you exude confidence for others to see, but you will also use
your appearance and body language to help yourself feel more confident in
any scenario.

In the following chapter, we'll go through these techniques for developing

self-confidence in greater depth.
Chapter 3

Know Yourself

Knowing oneself entails figuring out what makes you tick. Learning your
likes and dislikes, discovering your beliefs and values, knowing your
personal boundaries, accepting your personality traits, being a better team
player, having a clearer path in your professional life, understanding how
you interact with others, recognizing your core personal values, increasing
your capacity for self-compassion, having a clearer idea of your life's
purpose, knowing what it takes to be self-motivated, and being self-
motivated

Being more self-aware promotes self-development, acceptance, and

proactivity, all while improving our mental health.

The importance and benefits of knowing one's self

1. Consistent decision-making
Clear decision-making is one sign that you understand who you are and
what your future goals are. It demonstrates your ability to set priorities and
determine what activities to take to reach your objectives. It also
demonstrates that you know yourself well enough to pick from a variety of
possibilities, but indecision might indicate that you are unsure of what is
most important to you.

2. Self-knowledge boosts our confidence

Connecting with oneself is an excellent approach to increasing your self-

esteem. That is, realizing you are at the pinnacle of your life in terms of self-
improvement and knowing the type of person you want to assist you to
overcome your uncertainties.

Knowing and understanding oneself is a fantastic experience that raises

your consciousness, boosts your empowerment, and helps you grow as a
person and company owner.
3. Self-knowledge is learning to express yourself freely

Knowing yourself entails learning to openly express yourself. The capacity

to freely express oneself is also an indication that you control all five of your
senses. If you are unable to articulate yourself, it indicates that you are
unable to employ your five senses efficiently.

Knowing yourself entails understanding who you are, what makes you tick,
what you are passionate about, and so on. It results from identifying how
you think and feel about numerous life themes and experiences.

4. Knowing yourself will help you overcome your fear.

You must have a particular amount of knowledge to overcome your

concerns. When attempting to overcome your fears, accept that you are
terrified. You can list all the reasons why you should act, but what keeps
you back is your lack of self-awareness.

5. You cultivate healthy relationships.

Knowing oneself aids in the formation of healthy relationships. When you

can detect your own feelings, interests, and life objectives, it will be simpler
for others to notice similar traits in you. This can lead to stronger
friendships and love relationships.

6. You gain personal growth

Knowing yourself leads to personal development. When you know who you
are, you can make decisions based on your own needs and desires rather
than what others believe is best for you.

Because by making wise decisions, you develop as a person and become

more successful in achieving your goals in life.

7. You Will Find Work You Enjoy and Do Well

When it comes time to hunt for a job or change occupations, you'll be able
to focus on positions that play to your talents and interests if you know what
sorts of tasks drive and energize you.
8. Getting to know yourself is one hallmark of a happy and
healthy attitude

Nothing is more vital than understanding your own functioning and being
able to retain balance and mental clarity in the face of hardship.

Self-discovery should be one of your top objectives as a person, and it

should be something you strive for at all times. All the more reason you
must pay close attention to the next part, in which you will discover how to
know yourself.

How to know yourself better

Now that we've established the necessity of understanding oneself, you

might be wondering where to begin. Let's get started.

Examine your VITALS

The word VITALS was coined by author Meg Selig as a tool for growing self-
awareness. Its letters spell out the six fundamental foundations of self-
awareness:

These are your guides for making decisions and developing objectives.
Understanding them will assist you in making decisions that are consistent
with your genuine self. Here are a few examples of values:

1. Values

 Honesty

 Helpfulness
 Loyalty

 Trust

 Wealth

 Family

Each of these might lead to a distinct set of life choices. For example, if you
value honesty, you could leave a career that requires you to lie to others.

2. Interests

Your interests are the things you do without being asked, such as your
hobbies, passions, and causes you support. You might then try to match
your work to your hobbies. Here are a couple such examples:

 Global warming. If you are deeply committed to this cause, you may
opt to work directly on it. Alternatively, you may make decisions that
allow for a more sustainable lifestyle, such as purchasing an electric
automobile.
 Sound editing. Maybe you're a hobbyist musician who spends your
time recording and manipulating sounds. You might begin working as
a freelance editor or look for a position that requires these talents.
 Fitness. If you enjoy working out and enjoy assisting others, you
should think about becoming a trainer at your local gym or leading a
jogging club.

Not every one of your passions has to be a side hustle. However, being
aware of them might assist you in making decisions that better suit your
intended life. It all comes down to recognizing your priorities.

3. Temperament

Your temperament defines the source of your energy. You might be an

introvert who enjoys being alone. Alternatively, as an extrovert, you find
vitality in being with people.

Understanding your temperament will assist you in communicating your

wants to others.

If you're a diligent planner embarking on a trip, inform your more impulsive

travel companion. Your planning may make them feel stifled, leading to
disagreements later on. Bringing it up before to your vacation will allow you
to work it out and prevent issues afterwards.

4. Around-the-clock activities
This refers to when you like doing something. If you're a writer who is more
creative at night, schedule time to work in the evening. Make time to
exercise in the morning if that is what you want. You will be a happy person
if you align your schedule with your internal clock.

5. Life-mission and goals

Understanding your life mission entails understanding what gives your life
significance. It offers you a sense of purpose, a calling, and something to
strive towards.

Consider what experiences have been most relevant to you thus far in order
to identify your life mission. For example, assisting someone else to
succeed.

There are several methods to execute a life mission. You can achieve your
objectives using the talents and resources you have. "Helping someone
succeed" might include becoming a teacher or mentoring a young
professional, for example.

6. Strengths and weaknesses

These include both "hard skills" (such as industrial knowledge and abilities)
and "soft skills." (Like communication or emotional intelligence).

You're more likely to succeed when you do what you're excellent at, which
boosts your morale and mental wellness.

Knowing your flaws and harmful tendencies can help you improve or reduce
their impact on your life.
Chapter Four

Be prepared

There is no limit to the number of scenarios that might occur in the future.
Some of these may potentially have detrimental consequences. In such a
case, being prepared can assist you in correcting the error or dealing with it
without being impacted by it.

Knowing how to be prepared for anything life throws at us is essential for

success regardless of the circumstances! Being prepared does not imply
being able to foretell the future or knowing every conceivable result.
Instead, it's about grasping the concept of being prepared for whatever
comes our way. Equipping ourselves with the tools we'll need to face every
obstacle that comes our way. As a young person, this might be much more
difficult.

Some such scenarios are that you may face include: the difficult project at
school, a family crisis, preparing for an exam, public performance and loss
of a close family member

How to prepare yourself for all types of situations

Here are some methods that can help you face any situation.

Be positive
Maintain a good attitude at all times. Focus on the positives, but be
prepared to learn from the negatives as well. Learn from these experiences
to be stoic and not become easily angry or nervous when you switch your
focus and attention to good parts of a scenario. When you recognize the
positive sides, you will have the confidence to either negate or exploit the
circumstance to your advantage. When you focus on the bad, you will only
end up with disappointment and worry, which will stymie your growth.

Keep your finances in order.

Put money aside for a rainy day. That sentence has a lot of truth. If you have
some money, you can confront any eventuality, including health challenges,
company losses, or cash for a new venture.

Begin by getting your finances in order by paying off your existing bills.
Begin repaying now, even if in little amounts. Complete your payments as
soon as possible so that you are debt-free when an unforeseen incident
arises.

Then, shift your concentration and attention to saving. Plan how you will
minimize your expenditure and raise your savings.
Maintain an emergency reserve so that you do not have to rely on others for
financial assistance when you need it.

Health

Another crucial approach to be prepared for any circumstance is to be fit

and healthy, since if your health deteriorates, the situation gets more
complex.

For example, if you have high blood pressure and suffer a huge loss, your
issues double by two. Your blood pressure will increase, and you will be
unable to solve the matter peacefully. So, to stay fit, consume natural foods,
avoid processed meals, and exercise every day.

Practice mindfulness

Being mindful entails focusing on the current moment and becoming aware
of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations such as breathing.
Mindfulness can help you focus on the present moment and accept it
without judgment. This gives you a fresh perspective on a situation,
allowing you to come up with new ideas with a more open mind.

Even in the face of adversity, mindfulness can lower stress and boost overall
satisfaction. Some guidelines for practicing mindfulness.

Preparing for an expected or unexpected situation

We are positive that certain events will occur. Others, on the other hand,
catch us off guard. Here's how you can prepare for both.

Expected situation

You anticipate scenarios that are familiar. For example, you are aware of an
impending exam. You may prepare for this by properly reviewing the exam
syllabus. To be prepared, consider alternative scenarios.

Find the antecedents, which are the reasons that might lead to the
anticipated situation. Determine how it will influence you. Determine how
you will deal with it in the form of a workable strategy. Practice the
actionable strategy ahead of time so that you are prepared for any
circumstance.

Here's how to prepare for various scenarios;

For a test that follows a curriculum:

-Make a schedule.

-Revise

-Examine prior year's articles.

-Clarify any doubts with teachers/students.

-Build muscle and practice for the physical endeavor

For a mental task:

- Use memory

-general knowledge

-reasoning

Unexpected situation

Unexpected circumstances are difficult to predict. They might be either

good or negative consequences of a scenario. For example, we may be
unable to forecast a natural disaster, the death of a loved one, or a market
trend that may result in significant losses. Situations can sometimes be the
polar opposite. There may be possibilities that you should seize right now.

Here are some pointers to help you prepare for unforeseen scenarios:

-Seek information and guidance from seniors to learn how they handled
similar circumstances in the past.
-Prepare to learn from mistakes.

-Maintain a good attitude at all times.

-Take out life insurance or product insurance as you see suitable.

Being ready for anything is the greatest approach to avoid disaster. To be

prepared for anticipated events, you might draw on your own experience
and the counsel of others. You should either estimate or use insurance to
cover unforeseeable events.

Whatever the outcome of a circumstance, one should remain calm, happy,

financially secure, and attentive. If you are unable to handle it alone, it is
best to seek the assistance of a professional.

Chapter Five

Appearance matters

Do you know how you feel when you put on a new clothing and feel like you
can conquer the world? That's stylish self-assurance.
It's knowing that what you're wearing looks excellent, regardless of whether
or not people commend you on it. It's a surge of power, a sense of strength,
and an overall badass mentality.

The fact is that most individuals do not experience this level of self-
assurance as frequently as they should, for a variety of reasons. Maybe
they've never had someone tell them they looked great before; maybe
they've been taunted about their weight or looks; maybe they don't have the
necessary style expertise to dress nicely...The list goes on and on. The point
is, if you don't feel confident in your style, you're probably not confident
about yourself. Instead of focusing on the ways in which they fall short,
many people just give up and resign themselves to a wardrobe filled with ill-
fitting clothes or unfashionable hand-me-downs. But there’s nothing healthy
about giving up on something that should make you feel good about yourself
just because it’s hard.

It's time to discover your personal style and use it to express yourself fully.
This is an important step in embracing your identity, how you perceive
yourself, and how others perceive you, no matter where you are in your
style journey.
Importance of appearance to your self confidence

Some may find it absurd, if not insulting, to believe that the clothing you
wear might alter your confidence, yet there is plenty of evidence to back up
this assertion.

It certainly applies to me. When I'm wearing one of my favorite clothes, I

feel like I can conquer the world; when I'm wearing something that doesn't
feel as fantastic as it might, I begin to question myself.

You may improve your style and raise your confidence by taking a more
active role in how you dress. This is known in psychology as "enclothed
cognition," or the theory that what we wear determines who we are, how we
think, and how we act. Consider research. For example, studies suggest
that males act more aggressively when they are dressed in a suit, maybe
because they consider themselves to be businesspeople.

Our societal references, viewpoints, and inner monologue all play a role in
our sense of style. Let's have a look at how you may gain strength via style
and improve your style confidence.

Here are some examples of how to dress for confidence and empowerment:

Take Advantage of Colors

Understanding what looks well on you is the first step toward dressing
confidently. Certain colors may draw attention to your features and enhance
your overall appearance, from the color of your hair to the tone of your skin.
You can use color palettes or even a color wheel for inspiration, but you
don't have to overcomplicate things. Simply dress in a way that contrasts
with your features and skin tone to enable your natural hue to stand out.

Know Your Body Shape

Knowing your body type is another important aspect of dressing confidently.

After all, not everyone is formed with the same angles or dimensions, which
is what distinguishes us. However, knowing your unique form allows you to
simply identify which items will compliment you the most.

Embrace Your Personal Style

We all have distinct style preferences, and respecting them will make you
feel more secure. It doesn't matter if the clothing that seem most natural to
you aren't the most traditional. What matters is that you know what you
enjoy and that you're not wearing like someone else. Whether you prefer
simple t-shirts or head-to-toe patterns, style allows you to express yourself.

Prioritize Comfort

You may be wearing the most incredible clothes in the world, but if you're
uncomfortable, it's difficult to disguise. Above all, fashion should be
enjoyable. You shouldn't have to suffer for the sake of appearance. At the
end of the day, garments should do more than just look beautiful. They
should be happy as well. So, if you're not comfortable wearing exposing
attire, you may always strike a balance.

Flaunt Your Strengths

Now that you know what looks nice on your body type, it's time to highlight
your assets and put them on display. For example, if you're tall, you can use
vertical stripes to draw attention away from your height. If you're
curvaceous, a figure-forming garment will showcase your curves. Choose
clothing that complements the body part you are most proud of.

Confidence is shown via style. Wearing clothing that make you feel good
may make or break your attitude and outlook on life. When you feel well,
you behave more confidently, increasing your chances of success both
inside and outwardly.

Conclusion

Everyone has confidence challenges at some point in their lives.

Fortunately, there are some things you can do to increase your self-esteem.
Learning how to act confidently may often make you feel more confident.

It is not always simple to attain or retain self-confidence, but it is something

that everyone deserves to have. There are several reasons why confidence
is vital in our personal and professional life, but the most significant one is
that it contributes to our happiness.

While most of us are born with a good sense of self-assurance, life offers us
difficulties that might derail our feeling of self-assurance. However,
regaining self-confidence is attainable and well worth the effort for a more
satisfying existence.

A lack of confidence can be a symptom of a mental health problem such as

depression or anxiety. Consider speaking with a mental health expert if your
lack of self-confidence is interfering with your career, social life, or
schooling. A therapist may assist you in better understanding the problem,
recommending treatment, and working with you to create strategies to
boost your self-esteem.
