O
.p A Taizé Liturgy
Evening of Taizé Prayer

e
C
Prayer in the spirit of the Taizé Community is a meditative
form of common prayer. In the presence of Christ, we sing
uncomplicated, repetitive songs, uncluttered by too many
words, allowing the mystery of God to become tangible
through the beauty of the simplicity.

ln We thank you for being with us this evening. Though we

aren’t worshiping in the same room, we invite you to
designate a specific space in your home in these 45 minutes

o
where you can find a posture of prayer, a space where you

i
can allow the prayer to take root in the recesses of your heart
as we worship together from afar...

Opening Prayer:

Grant the abundance of your life to all persons; particularly to these young people you are
calling to your service. Enlighten them in their choices and make them ready and courageous in
offering their lives according to your example that others may have life. Lord Jesus, we pray

a
r
together with your Most Holy Mother who stood beside you in the hour of your redeeming
sacrifice. We pray to you, through her intercession, that today, many young people may have
the courage, humility, fidelity and love in answering “Yes” for service as Mary responded when

y
she was called to collaborate with you in your mission of saving the world.

o V. Reading
1. Gospel Acclamation:

o
Speak Lord, I want to listen to your word, See Lord, here I am.

v
2. Gospel Reading

Gospel (A reading from the Holy Gospel according to): John. 10:11-16
I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. A hired man, who is
not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and
runs away, and the wolf catches and scatters them. This is because he works for pay and has no
concern for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the
Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep. I have other
sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and
there will be one flock, one shepherd.

The Gospel of the Lord.

VI. A LITANY OF HEALING

Leader: God, our creator, your will for us and for all your people is health and salvation:
All: Have mercy on us.
Leader: Jesus Christ, Son of God, you came that we might have life and have it in abundance:
All: Have mercy on us.
Leader: Holy Spirit, dwelling within us, you make us temples of your presence:
All: Have mercy on us.

VII. Intercessions:

Leader: With faith and confidence, we now bring our prayers to God our Father who sent his
Son to
be our Good Shepherd and to lay down his life for us in love and service. Let us now present all
the needs of the people of God. In every petition, we say:
(R) O Lord, hear our prayer; Come and listen to us.

1. For the ministers of the Church, that the Lord will pour upon them the gifts of the HolySpirit
that they may continue to become witnesses of the Gospel in the world. Lord we pray: (R)
4. For those who are suffering because of war, poverty and persecutions. May they find comfort
in the cross of Christ and learn to offer their sufferings for the salvation of the world. Lord we
pray: (R)
5. Para sa lahat na mga pumanaw lalu na sa ating mga mahal sa buhay, nawa’y makasama
nila ang Inang Maria, San Jose at mga banal nang tumamasa sa walang hanggang saya at
kapayapaan sa langit. Panginoon kami’y sumasamo: (R)
6. Alang kanatong tanan nga nagpundok dinhi ug alang sa tanang batan-ong mga lalaki ug
babaye, nga gitawag sa pagserbisyo, hinaut nga kita magpuyo diha sa kahayag sa ebanghelyo.
Mao nga kami nag-ampo Ginoo: (R)

Leader: The Father entrusted us to Jesus our Good Shepherd, let us now offer

The prayer of forgiveness and filial trust.

Luke 15:18; 18:13
Father, I have sinned against you
and am not worthy to be called your son (daughter).
Be merciful to me, a sinner.
Father of mercy, like the prodigal son (daughter)
I return to you and say:
"I have sinned against you
and am no longer worthy to be called your son."
Christ Jesus, savior of the world,
I pray with the repentant thief
to whom you promised paradise:
"Lord, remember me in your kingdom."
Holy Spirit, fountain of love,
I call on you with trust:
"Purify my heart,
and help me to walk as a child of the light."

VIII. The Lord’s Prayer

Leader: Let us pray with confidence as our Savior has taught us.
Our Father (Light from Light)

IX. Veneration of the Cross

Veneration Songs:
1.Bless the Lord
2. Stay with me…

5. Nada te turbe…
6. Lord Jesus Christ your light shines within us…
7. Jesus Remember me…

X. Closing Prayer
Merciful Father, in Jesus Christ you have given us the model of a true Shepherd who calls by
name and guides to the pasture of life. We pray that you send many laborers that we may have
many people who are ready to lead others to holiness and development. We ask this through the
same Christ our Lord. Amen.

XI. Closing Chant

1. Peace Before Us

About Taizé: Taizé is a tiny village hidden away in the hills of

Burgundy, in the eastern part of France, not far from the town
of Cluny. Since 1940, it has been the home of an ecumenical
community of brothers whose prayer, three times each day, is at
the center of their life. Today, Taizé is a place to which visitors
of all ages and backgrounds come on pilgrimage, to participate
in international meetings of prayer and reflection.

Taizé’s vocation is to strive for communion among all. From

its beginnings, the community has worked for reconciliation
among Christians split apart into different denominations. But,
the brothers do not view reconciliation among Christians as the
end in itself; it concerns all of humanity, since it makes the
Church a place of communion for all.

Song is one of the most essential elements of Taizé worship.

Short songs, repeated again and again, give it a meditative character. Using just a few words, they express a basic
reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind. As the words are sung over many times, this reality gradually penetrates
the whole being. And these simple songs then enable us to keep on praying when we are alone, by day, by night, and
sometimes in the silence of our hearts when we are at work.

Icons contribute to the beauty of worship. They are like windows open on the realities of the kingdom
of God, making them present in our prayer on earth. Although icons are images, they are not simply
illustrations or decorations. They are symbols of the incarnation, a presence which offers to the eyes the
spiritual message that the Word addresses to the ears. By the faith it expresses, by its beauty and its
depth, an icon can create a space of peace and sustain an expectant waiting. It invites us to welcome
salvation even in the flesh and in creation.
