Romance of the prisoner

It is an anonymous romance that belongs to the Old Romancero, known as the Traditional Romancero.
These romances have been transmitted orally since the Middle Ages. It is not an epic romance, but a
lyrical romance. Epic poems told historical legends or chivalrous
adventures. In this lyrical romance, the entire poem is aimed at
presenting an inner state, the feelings of the protagonist (lyrical
style), conditioned by the state of mind produced by the prison in
which he finds himself.
The main theme is the feeling of loneliness and anguish of a
prisoner faced with the absence of freedom and the impossibility
of enjoying the beauty of nature and the pleasures of love.
The text follows the metric scheme characteristic of romances. It is made up of octosyllabic verses with
rhyme in pairs. The rhyme is consonant, something unusual in epic romances, but not so much in
lyrical ones.

What better task to understand the structure of a romance than writing romances in class? That's what we did
and here is the result.
ROMANCE ON HOW TO MAKE A ROMANCEMaking
a romance is easy because
the even verses rhyme and
the rhyme is assonant
, which is the simplest rhyme.
Look for a verse with eight
real syllables, which you
pronounce by counting them with your fingers

that ends each verse.

CONCEPT OF VERSE:
Each line of a poem is called a VERSE. Hence we say that poems are written in
verse.

MEASUREMENT OF THE VERSES:


Measuring verses is more than just comparing them visually, it is very useful for
studying a poem. To do it right you have to use a method.
The length of a verse is equal to its number of syllables.
So let's measure the verses well!

According to the length of the verses, they can be classified into two
groups:

MINOR ART VERSES: Those that have 8 syllables or less.

VERSES OF MAJOR ART: Those that have more than 8 syllables.

CONSONANT RHYME AND ASSONANT RHYME


Rhyme is the coincidence of sounds that two or more words have starting with the
stressed vowel.
ASSONANT RHYME - Each group of words has in common that they have the same
vowels but not the same consonants from the stressed syllable.

THE VERSE
The verses of poems are usually grouped into stanzas.
In each stanza that forms the poem, the verses present a fixed scheme in their
rhyme and meter.
In this case, we call each stanza a COUPLED.
These are two verses that rhyme with each other.
