The Crying Stone

Assalamualaikum Wr Wb….the honorable teachers, and all my beloved friends. My name

is Romizah Qinthara,…….. . Today I would like to tell you a story from Kalimantan. The title is “The Crying
Stone”. Are you ready to listen my story? Well, here it is.
Long time ago, lived a girl with her mother at a mountain near a town in Kalimantan. The girl’s
name was Darmi. Darmi was very beautiful. Everyday, she wore make up and her best clothes. She
always wanted to be rich and beautiful. However she was arrogant and lazy girl. She never helped her
mother do the housework. She also did not care about what her mother’s problem.
One day her mother asked Darmi to accompany her to the market. “Darmi, go with me to the
market”. “Hmm…okay Mom. But I don’t want to walk beside you. You have to walk beside me.”
Sadly, her mother followed Darmi behind her to the market.

Ladies and gentlemen, On the way to the market, everybody admired Darmi’s beauty, and they
were also curious. Behind the beautiful girl, there was an old woman with a dirty and ugly dress. Darmi
and her mother looked very different. The girl looked very beautiful in her pretty dress, while her
mother looked very old in her simple dress. “Hallo beautiful girl, who is the old woman behind you? Is
she your mother?”
“No, of course not. She is my servant. My mother is as beautiful as I am.”
Her mother was very sad. But she couldn’t say anything.
Then they continued to walk. And then a young man met them and asked, “Hi sweety, is that your
mother who is walking behind you?”
Audiences, do you know what Darmi said? Yes, Darmi said, “No, she is really different from me. How
could you say that she is my mother? She is my servant.”
Again and again Darmi said that her mother was her servant everytime they asked.
When they arrived home, her mother said to Darmi, “Darmi, how could you telling those people that I’m
not your mother?”
“Mom…I have to do that because I don’t want they laugh at me if they find out, that you are my mother.
We look so different.”
“Darmi, please stop! You’ve hurt me! I can’t bear it any longer.
Darmi’s mother was very angry. She finally prayed the God. “Oh the Almighty God, I can’t stand
this. My daughter always hurt me. I am so disappointed. Please give her punishment.”
Ladies and gentlemen, Do you know what happened then? With the power of God, suddenly
Darmi’s leg turned into stone. Slowly the process continuing to the upper part of Darmi’s body. Darmi
was in panic. “Mother…. what happen to me. Please forgive me mother. Help me, please, help me
mother.”
But it was already too late. Darmi’s whole body finally became a big stone. Although all of her
body had turned into a stone, people could see that the stone was crying. Until now, people can see
tears falling down from the stone. That’s why People call it The Crying Stone or Batu Menangis
Well thet’s all my story. The moral value of the story is We must respect and love our parents,
especially our mother, Insya Allah God bless our life, aaminn…Thank you for listening to my story,
