Subject: Rotation request
Dr. Rebecca Gomez Chico Velasco
Director of Teaching and Academic Development
Federico Gomez Children's Hospital of Mexico
Dear Director:
On behalf of the Education Department of Psychiatric Hospital No. 22 of the
Mexican Social Security Institute, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, I allow myself
to distract you from your fine attentions, in order to request the feasibility of the rotation
in the Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome clinic located in the Pediatric Endocrinology
department.
Our hospital offers a 4-year residency training program in psychiatry, with ca-
pacity for 15 new residents each year. As part of this program, during the fourth year we
encourage residents to receive a short training period in a program of interest at a presti-
gious national or international institution.
Residents at our institution receive a subsidy throughout their training, so they
have their own financial resources to support themselves. The feasibility of accepting
resident Dr. Alejandra Ibarra Delgado in your institution is requested solely for her
participation in clinical, academic, educational and research programs, without repre-
senting any cost to your institution.
Dr. Alejandra Ibarra Delgado, a surgeon and midwife, is currently in the third
year of her academic training in the Specialty of Psychiatry and at the same time, is
about to complete a master's degree in Nutrition and Obesity. During the time she has
participated as a student in the specialty, she has shown impeccable conduct, as well as
great dedication to educational, medical, healthcare and research activities, with strict
respect for the rules and responsibilities that correspond to her.
In addition, Dr. Alejandra Ibarra Delgado has also participated as a researcher
in scientific dissemination forums (conferences, congresses and clinical research semi-

nars). She has collaborated as an organizer in various workshops and symposiums of-
fered by our hospital, both to the community and to health professionals. Likewise, he
has participated as a speaker in psychiatric conferences, both national (Mexican Psychi-
atric Association) and international (World Psychiatric Association), showing a special
interest in topics related to psychiatric nutrition, metabolic disorders in comorbidity
with serious mental illness and eating disorders.
Dr. Alejandra Ibarra Delgado wishes to do a three-month rotation at the Pedi-
atric Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome Clinic of the Pediatric Endocrinology Depart-
ment located at your prestigious hospital. The rotation period corresponds to three
months, more specifically from July 1, 2019 to September 27, 2019. Dr. Ibarra's rota-
tion within the group aims to meet the following objectives:
1) To gain a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the management of
pediatric patients suffering from morbid obesity.
2) To integrate emerging knowledge on the treatment of childhood metabolic syn-
drome in the psychiatric field in order to positively impact patient care and fol -
low-up.
3) To integrate collaboratively and proactively into the team of professionals who
provide specialized care to this pediatric population.
4) Theoretical and practical learning in the primary, secondary and tertiary preven-
tion of metabolic diseases in patients.
5) Proactively provide cognitive-behavioral strategies or those with a Mindful Eat-
ing approach that could be applicable to the patient population in which it is re-
quired to improve adherence to specific dietary patterns or the adoption of
healthier lifestyles.
6) To expand knowledge on metabolic profiles, phenotypes and endophenotypes of
metabolic risk in children, which could be applicable to the population with se-
vere mental illness.
7) Actively participate in academic and educational sessions carried out by the De-
partment of Pediatric Endocrinology.
8) Participate in activities of the interdisciplinary teams that make up the network
of specialists based in its prestigious hospital.
9) Be familiar with and participate in the lines of research or multidisciplinary the-
ses carried out by your team.
10) To proactively refine and apply the knowledge acquired in psychosomatic
medicine and nutritional psychiatry in patient care, observing the feasibility and
impact that these adjuvant interventions can contribute to improving the quality
of life and adherence to treatment in the pediatric population suffering from a
metabolic disorder.
The teaching staff of our institution highly recommends Dr. Alejandra Ibarra Del-
gado, and we formally request her acceptance in the mentioned period. We would
greatly appreciate it if you could provide us with the requirements to formalize Dr.
Ibarra's rotation, as well as establish a channel of communication and collaboration in
academic programs for the benefit of the training of our residents.
