Mototrbo XiRP8668 and XiRM8668 radios are New Generation
Digital Radios based on ETSI-DMR standards and uses TDMA
(Time Division Multiple Access Technology).
                      Digital mobile radio (DMR)
➢ Digital mobile radio (DMR) is an open digital mobile
radio standard defined in the European Telecommunications
Standards Institute (ETSI) Standard TS 102 361 parts 1–4.
➢ The DMR interface is defined by the following ETSI standards:
      ▪ TS 102 361-1: Air interface protocol
      ▪ TS 102 361-2: Voice and General services and facilities
      ▪ TS 102 361-3: Data protocol
      ▪ TS 102 361-4: Trunking protocol
➢ DMR was designed with three tiers.
          ▪ DMR tiers I and II (conventional) were first published in
            2005
          ▪ DMR III (Trunked version) was published in 2012
                        Digital mobile radio
Tier I
➢ Tier I is a single channel specification originally for the European
   unlicensed dPMR446 service.
➢ IT is a single channel FDMA 6.25 kHz bandwidth;
➢ The standard supports
    ▪ peer-to-peer (mode 1),
    ▪ repeater (mode 2) and
    ▪ linked repeater (mode 3) configurations.
Tier II
➢ Tier II is 2-slot TDMA 12.5 kHz wide peer-to-peer and repeater mode
specification, resulting in a spectrum efficiency of 6.25 kHz per
  channel.
➢ Each time slot can be either voice and/or data depending upon system
  needs.
➢ IP Site Connect (IPSC) for interconnecting repeaters over the Internet is
                  Digital mobile radio
Tier III
➢ Tier III builds upon Tier II, adding trunking operation involving
multiple repeaters at a single site.
➢ Not all manufacturers’ trunking implementation is Tier III
  compatible.
➢ Vender specific protocols have expanded the trunking to
  multiple site operations.

BLOCK DIAGRAM
Time-Division Multiple-Access (TDMA)?
Time-Division Multiple-Access (TDMA)
Enables splitting of channels to allow multiple access
on a single channel
Preserves full channel with but divides it into
alternating timeslots that can carry individual calls
❖One digital repeater replaces two analog repeaters
❖Reduces infrastructure, acquisition, setup, and
maintenance costs
❖Transmits more information
❖Supports more users
                 TDMA
TDMA divides a 12.5 kHz channel into two alternating
time slots to achieve 6.25 kHz equivalent spectral
efficiency when used with a repeater.
