SECTION 16500
LIGHTING
PART 1 – GENERAL
1.1 DESCRIPTION OF WORK
A. Work required of this Section includes labor, materials, equipment and supervision
necessary to complete outdoor lighting in quantities required and at locations indicated on
drawings.
1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Except as otherwise stated herein, all equipment and materials furnished in accordance
with
this Specification shall comply with the following applicable Codes and Standards.

3. Insulated Cable Engineer’s Association (ICEA)
4. Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
5. American National Standard Institute (ANSI)

9. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. In compliance with requirements established within the General Terms and Conditions and
the General Requirements, provide submittals identified in the following paragraphs.
1. Photometric data for all light fixtures where this information is pertinent to the
fixture's evaluation.
2. Lighting "fixture schedule" indicating type of fixture, voltage rating, VA rating, type
of mounting, name of manufacturer and type of ballast for each type of fixture
being furnished.
3. Shop drawings showing plan, power and control circuits, lighting panel schedule
and lighting fixture mounting details.
4. Product data and catalog cuts for each type of fixtures, ballast and associated
lighting system.
5. Illumination calculations.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURER
A. Manufacturer: Subject to compliance with the requirements, provide products by one of the
following approved manufacturer or equal approved as approved by the client.

2.2 LUMINAIRES:
1. The luminaire shall be dust, watertight, and corrosion resistant with complete accessories.
The complete assembly shall provide the required light distribution pattern.
2. The luminaire shall be made of pressure die-cast aluminum and silicon alloy. The exterior
shall be completely smooth. Copper content shall be less than 0.05 percent to prevent
inter-crystalline corrosion.
3. Lens is Standard injection molded optically diffused lens, with impact resistant acrylic for
strength.
4. The mirror reflectors shall be made of high purity, glazed anodized aluminum rigidly fixed
to the body and easily replaceable.
5. The lamp and control gear shall be mounted in isolated compartments within the fixture.
6. Each luminaire optical compartment or unit shall be protected by a high impact resistant
clear glass or molded polycarbonate protector and shall conform to the recommendation of
IEC-529. The protector shall be smooth to reduce to the minimum dirt accumulation and
shall maintain a coefficient of transmission of the order of 88 percent or better.
7. The refractor-frame assembly shall be hinged to the body and maintained in place with
stainless steel toggles or other approved means. A synthetic rubber or water repellant felt
gasket shall ensure weather-tightness. The structural support of the gasket shall be
designed to protect the latter from direct sunlight.
8. The materials selected shall be able to withstand damage, aging or alteration in their
structural or physical properties due to severe local conditions and the heat emitted by the
lamp.
9. A suitable terminal block shall be provided to allow connection of the internal wiring and
supply cables including looped cables, and shall be clearly marked. Provisions shall be
made to facilitate maintenance and easy disconnection, and quick replacement of
individual components.
10. LED light fixtures shall be in accordance with IES, NFPA, UL, as shown on the drawings,
and as specified.
11. LED light fixtures shall be Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)-compliant.
12. LED drivers shall include the following features unless otherwise indicated:
a. Minimum efficiency: 85% at full load.
b. Ambient Temperature: 40˚ C
c. Input Voltage: 220V (±10%) at 60 Hz.

d. Integral short circuit, open circuit, and overload protection.
e. Power Factor: ≥ 0.95.
f. Total Harmonic Distortion: ≤ 20%.
13. LED modules shall include the following features unless otherwise indicated:
a. Comply with IES LM-79 and LM-80 requirements.
b. Minimum CRI 80 and color temperature 3000˚ K unless otherwise
specified in lighting fixture schedules.
14. Minimum Rated Life: 50,000 hours per IES L70.
15. Led Light output lumens as indicated in the LIGHTING FIXTURE SCHEDULE.
16. Housing, LED driver, and LED module shall be products of the same manufacturer.
17. LED drivers, modules, and reflector shall be accessible, serviceable, and
replaceable from below the ceiling.
18. Housing, LED driver, and LED module shall be products of the same manufacturer.
2.3 CONTROL GEAR:
Control gear shall be of the removable type for operation at 220V, 60 Hertz with power
factor compensated to at least 0.9. The ballast shall be of a type specially adapted for the
particular make of lamps selected. The lamp shall be able to start with at least plus or
minus ten percent of the voltage value and continue in normal operation with dips attaining
20 percent for four consecutive seconds. The ballast shall be of the isolated type. The
secondary shall be grounded.
2.3 LAMPS
A. At the conclusion of the work, each fixture must be equipped with the proper number of
new lamps of the correct size, all in good operating condition.
C. Fluorescent lamps shall be electronic ballast, standard daylight or as approved by the
engineer, T-12 1220 mm, 36 watt, or as required to suit the fixture, rated at 3150 lumens
minimum.
E. All special purpose lamps shall be of the type and size as shown on drawings.
F. All metal halide lamps shall have mogul base and shall be phosphor coated.
G. All high pressure sodium lamps shall have mogul base and shall be clear.
H. Where existing fixtures are called for to be relocated or reused, the Contractor shall
remove, store, clean, relamp, and reinstall them as shown or directed.
I. Led lighting shall features an array of select, high brightness, high efficiency LED.
2.4 CONTROL GEAR:
Control gear shall be of the removable type for operation at 220V, 60 Hertz with power factor
compensated to at least 0.9. The ballast shall be of a type specially adapted for the particular make
of lamps selected. The lamp shall be able to start with at least plus or minus ten percent of the
voltage value and continue in normal operation with dips attaining 20 percent for four consecutive
seconds.The ballast shall be of the isolated type. The secondary shall be grounded.
2.5 GROUNDING: Grounding shall conform to National Electrical Code or IEC and to requirements on
the drawings and as described herein. Neutral conductors, cable shield, metallic conduits, guard
post assembly and all non-current carrying metallic parts of equipment, shall be grounded or
connected to the ground system.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Install lighting fixture of type and at the location as shown.
1. Provide 6 mm minimum clearance between surfaces when fixture is mounted on a
concrete surface.
2. Mount fixture bases rigidly to the surface.
3. Where aluminum is placed in contact with dissimilar metal, separate the contact
surface with gasket, non-absorptive tape or coating to prevent corrosion.
B. Coordinate with other trades for the location of light fixtures to ensure that no conflict with
the other services.
C. Make necessary opening of ceiling to mount recessed light fixtures. Strictly coordinate with
engineer for any opening.
D. Ground the lighting fixture body.
3.2 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Test lighting fixtures and light standards for connection in accordance with the wiring
diagram and for proper operation.
B. Test fixture body for continuity to the grounding system.
C. Test illumination level in each area to confirm that the measured values are in conformance
with the design.
