Knowledge that I have gained…

This unit has significantly broadened my understanding of business communication. I have
learnt more about the effectiveness of communication, from written correspondence to
verbal presentations. I have gained insights into the power of nonverbal communication and
how it can enhance or hinder message delivery. Additionally, the unit has equipped me with
knowledge of various communication channels and their appropriate use in different
business context.

Skills that I have developed…

Critical Thinking: I have sharpened my ability to analyze complex information, identify key
issues, and evaluate different perspectives. This skill is crucial for effective decision making
and problem solving in business
Active Listening: I have developed my active listening skills, which involve paying full
attention to the speaker, asking clarifying questions, and paraphrasing to ensure
understanding. This has improved my ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively
with others.
Public Speaking: This unit has boosted my confidence in public speaking, even though it has
been over zoom. I have learnt how to structure presentations effectively, use visual aids
appropriately, and deliver engaging speeches.
Written Communication: I have refined my written communication skills, particularly in
crafting clear, concise, and persuasive messages. I have also learned how to adapt my
writing style to different audiences and purposes.

What I learned from applying my new knowledge and skills…

This unit provided me with invaluable insights into the dynamics of group work and the art
of effective presentations. I was able to apply these learnings to a significant group project
where we collaborated to analyze a business.
Teamwork and Collaboration: I learned the importance of open communication, active
listening, and respect for diverse perspectives within a team. By fostering a collaborative
environment, we were able to leverage each team member’s strengths and overcome
challenges collectively.
Time Management and Organization: I developed strong time management skills by setting
clear deadlines, delegating tasks effectively, and adhering to the project timeline. This
ensured that we stayed on track and delivered a high-quality final product.

Areas which require further development…

While I have made significant progress, there are still areas where I can improve:
Negotiation Skills: I would like to enhance my negotiation skills, focusing on effective
strategies for reaching mutually beneficial agreements.
Digital Communication: With the increasing reliance on digital communication tools, I
would like to further develop my skills in crafting effective emails, messages, and online
presentations.

Strategies that I can employ to address these developmental needs…

Negotiation Skills:
- Practice: Look for opportunities in day to day life to negotiate
- Observe Experienced Negotiators: Watch how they handle themselves in different
situations
Digital Communications:
- Get Feedback: Ask friends, family, and other peers to give feedback on digital
communication skills.
