2.40(b)(3)
Attending veterinarian and adequate veterinary care (dealers and exhibitors).
When discussing the mechanism of daily observation of the black-tailed prairie dog colony, the keeper indicated that she
does not use a reporting mechanism to determine the length of time that may pass between observation of each of the
animals and could not confirm visualization of the black-tailed prairie dogs the day of inspection. Although normal during
certain times of year for black-tailed prairie dogs to remain underground for longer periods of time, daily observation of
animals is important to ensure that conditions that can negatively affect behavior, health, and well-being are identified
timely and that accurate information is conveyed to the attending veterinarian.

Correct by December 6, 2024 by ensuring daily observation of the black-tailed prairie dog colony is conducted and
reporting mechanisms are followed to ensure timely and accurate information on problems of animal health, behavior, and
well-being is conveyed to the attending veterinarian.
3.75(e)
Housing facilities, general.
Within the bulk storage area, damaged/contaminated bags of nonhuman primate feed are stored inside the former walk-in
freezer which is in disrepair. The former walk-in freezer ceiling surface is split open allowing exposure of insulation and a
possible route of entry for vermin. The outer paper surface of some of the feed bags are torn with areas of yellow
discoloration and rodent droppings are present on top of the feed bags. The inner surface of the food bags was not
observed to be broken. Disease transmission and illness may occur if the food supply being used is contaminated or
spoiled. Affected food bags were discarded at the time of inspection and the facility representative indicated that there are
plans to remove the non-functional walk-in freezer to eliminate the potential entry source for vermin.

Correct by January 1, 2025 by ensuring supplies of food and bedding are stored in a manner that protects the supplies
from spoilage, contamination, and vermin infestation.

This inspection and exit interview were conducted with a facility representative.
