Dear Stakeholder,

RESOLUTIONS OF THE MEETING BETWEEN THE MINISTER OF HIGHER


EDUCATION AND TRAINING, DR. NOBUHLE NKABANE, MP, AND THE
LEADERSHIP OF SATVETSA

On 24th February 2025, I met with the leadership of the South African Technical
Vocational Education and Training Student Association (SATVETSA) to discuss
critical issues affecting students in the TVET sector.

The meeting focused on the following matters, which were deliberated in a


manner to reach mutually agreeable solutions:

1. ADJUSTMENTS IN TVET STUDENT LIVING ALLOWANCES


Resolution: The meeting agreed to establish parity in living allowances
between TVET and university students.

2. PAYMENT OF 2024 OUTSTANDING STUDENT ALLOWANCES


Resolution: The meeting concluded that all pending student allowances
for 2024 will be processed by February 25, 2025.

3. PAYMENT OF 2025 STUDENT ALLOWANCES


Resolution: The meeting resolved that allowances for the 2025 academic
year be processed in a week, subject to receiving college registration
data.

4. PAYMENT FOR STUDENT ACCOMMODATION


Resolution: The meeting resolved that all outstanding student
accommodation fees be processed as of 25 February 2025.
5. NSFAS APPEALS PROCESS
Resolution: The meeting resolved that the Appeals Committee should
convene before Friday, 28 February 2025, to finalise all outstanding
appeals.

6. PENDING EXAMINATION RESULTS


Resolution: The meeting resolved that the mop-up process for all
pending results should be completed by Wednesday, 26 February 2025.

This process should be followed by the approval of results by Umalusi no


later than Friday, 28 February 2025. Further, I will meet with the National
Examinations and Assessments Chief Directorate to address all
examinations and assessments-related matters. The meeting is scheduled
for Thursday, 27 February 2025.

7. REPRESENTATION ON THE NSFAS BOARD


Resolution: The meeting resolved that the SATVETSA should nominate a
candidate to represent the TVET sector on the NSFAS Board.

8. With this letter, I wish to apprise you of my discussion with SATVETSA


and reiterate the Ministry's commitment to the effective functioning of
TVET colleges.
