DESCRIPTION OF INNOVATION
• Description of innovation in communication :
• Ancient to Medieval Era: Written communication began with pictographs (c. 3500 BCE),
followed by the invention of the printing press (c. 1400), which revolutionized information
distribution.
• 19th Century: The telegraph and Morse code were developed (1837), and the telephone was
invented by Alexander Graham Bell (1876), enabling long-distance voice communication.
• 20th Century: Radio broadcasting emerged in the 1920s, the ARPANET was established in
1969 (precursor to the internet), and the World Wide Web was created by Tim Berners-Lee in
1990, transforming information access.
• Late 20th Century & 21st Century: Social media platforms rose in the 2000s, smartphones
changed communication in 2007, and video conferencing became vital during the COVID-19
pandemic. The rollout of 5G (2021) and advancements in AI (2023) continue to shape
communication methods.
