Nowadays, to mitigate traffic congestion, the investment of government on building alternative traffic
systems such as train and subway is necessary. Others, however, suppose that it is much more effective
to pay attention on the extension of roads. There are valid opinions on both sides, which I will consider
now.
On the one hand, one of the major reasons why some people are attracted to the construction of train
lines and underground passages is savings of time and money. As a result, people gradually tend to
utilize them as means of transport, thereby, alleviating the current travelling overload which lead to a
heavy traffic jam. Additionally, different from widening the road, underground transportation system is
not limited by the scarcity of land.
On the other hand, traffic jam is attributable to the density of vehicles which exceed the capacity of
current transport system, thus, increasing road size is a direct measure to diminish this issue. First and
foremost, it allow higher volume of traffic as well as enable more vehicles, thus, reducing congestion
and unexpected accidents for road users. Furthermore, it seems that a majority of people still prefer to
use their own car rather than using public transport because of its convenience. For that reason, in
order to facilitate the usage of private cars, it is believed developing more branches of roads is a better
method.
To conclude, it is true that contrusting more and wider roads has a large contribution to lessen traffic, I
am inclined to the first opinion that the government should properly allocate funds to alternative means
of transport.
