Nutrition is the basis of our well-being. It is about eating a regular and balanced diet. Good
nutrition provides the essential nutrients our bodies need to thrive. Proper nutrition helps keep our
energy levels up and protects us against many diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
Good nutrition also helps fuel our bodies. The foods we eat supply the nutrients we need to
maintain our brain, muscles, blood circulation, and immune system. In addition to eating a variety
of nutritious foods, it is important to limit the intake of processed foods high in sugars and fats.
Drinking plenty of water is also crucial for proper functioning of our bodies. Ultimately, making
mindful food choices and adopting healthy eating habits can lead to increased energy levels,
improved mood, and a reduced risk of health problems. By prioritising nutrition, we can nourish
our bodies, and live fuller and healthier lives.

I have never seen anything as powerful as a person’s attitude. I have also not seen
anything as destructive as one’s attitude. For some people, their attitude finds opportunity in
every difficulty. Some people succeed because of their positive attitude while others fail
because of their negative outlook. Your attitude will either attract success or repel it.
Which one of these attitudes describes you?
Before you answer that question, let me give you some good news. You can choose
your attitude. How is it possible? We are each individually responsible for building our own
view of life. The way we look at life and the way we do things help determine what will
happen to us. Our future looks bright when the attitude is right, and it makes the present

Global warming is the rapid increase in the earth’s surface temperature due to human
activities. One such human activity is deforestation. Many trees are cut either for business
purposes or sometimes to give way to human development activities like farming. It has been
discovered that trees clean the air, therefore, cutting trees leads to global warming.
The second human activity that causes global warming is careless disposal of garbage and
human waste. Burning of plastic bags and other plastic materials releases carbon and greenhouse
gases into the atmosphere, thus causing global warming. People should therefore recycle garbage
and human waste. Another cause of global warming is smoke from factories and motor vehicles
that use petroleum fuels. People need to use clean fuels to operate machines and drive vehicles.
Smoke needs to stop as we switch to more fuel-efficient vehicles and find ways to make clean
power.
Global warming has harmful effects. All the human activities mentioned above affect the
ozone layer which is supposed to protect the earth’s surface from harmful sun rays. All in all, if
we take good care of our environment, we can reduce global warming, and the earth will be safe.
12. According to the passage, global warming is
A. an increase in the earth’s gases.
B. a quick growth of human activities.
C. an expansion of hot deserts.
D. a rise in the earth’s heat levels.

A. Limiting farming activities
B. Protecting our forests
C. Reducing use of motor vehicles
D. Disposing garbage from factories
14. The word “recycle” as used in the passage means the same as
A. retain.
B. reduce.
C. reuse.
D. rebuild.
4
15. According to the passage, the ozone layer
A. provides energy for trees to grow.
B. keeps away too much heat from the earth.
C. increases cleanliness in the environment.
D. helps in the disposal of human waste.
16. We can reduce the effect of smoke in the environment by
A. avoiding use of unclean fuel.
B. reducing visiting people.

Long time ago, Hare and Hyena were great friends. They did many things together. They
often danced and sang together. One day, Hare said, “My friend Hyena, let us start farming together
and we will be rich.”
“Oh yes, we can plant a lot of food, harvest it, and sell it to others,” Hyena said.
“But what shall we plant?” asked Hare.
Hyena suggested that they plant maize and Hare agreed. Hare then suggested that they
share duties in the farm.
“My work will be guarding the maize from the birds,” said Hare, “and you will do the
planting and weeding.”
Hyena complained that he had been given more work. But Hare said that the work of
chasing birds was the most difficult and most important. When weeds grew in the field, Hyena
weeded as they had agreed. It was a lot of work; however, Hare just sat on a rock singing:
My friend is a worker; I am his adviser.
He works like a tractor; I am his manager.
The soil he toils, the hill he tills.
The seeds he plants, the weeds he cuts.
The maize we harvest.
Finally, the maize was ready for harvesting. Hare told Hyena that they would share the
harvest. Hare said, ‘‘I will harvest everything that grows above the soil. You will harvest what
grows below the soil.” Hyena thought that it was a good idea. He went to harvest things that grew
below the soil, but only found roots. On the other hand, Hare harvested all the maize in the field
and put it in his store.
Hyena realised that he had been cheated. He was very angry. The next morning, Hyena
went to Hare’s home for revenge. However, Hare managed to escape. Since that day, Hare and
Hyena have not been friends. This is the end of my story.

Scene One
Early morning. The magistrate is positioned at an elevated height. He demands the whole attention
of the audience as he carefully observes the room, his penetrating look cutting through the sea of
anxious faces. At the centre of the room, the accused, Mr. Lazaro, sits. As the trial begins, the
room falls into a hushed silence, broken only by the occasional shuffling of papers or the clearing
of a throat. The magistrate bangs the table with a gavel to signal the case to start.

PROSECUTOR: Mr. Lazaro, can you tell this court where you were on the night of the
robbery?
LAZARO: Your honour, I was in my house.

SAIDI: (Shouting) That is a pure lie! He was in my compound.

MAGISTRATE: Do not shout in this court. You shall only speak when given permission to
do so. Is that clear, Mr. Saidi?
SAIDI: Yes, your honour.

The old man gave Weche the torch and followed him closely with a panga, ready to strike
in case of any danger. Weche walked to the gate. Weche and his grandfather were shocked to find
the gate open. Could the animals have broken loose? Weche wondered. He then walked fast

Katu jamii haikumdekeza
mtoto, bali ilimrudi aliyekosa papo hapo.
Maendeleo
yawe njia ya kuendeleza jamii bali si ya kuididimiza.

ZOEZI II: FASIHI SIMULIZI (Alama 10)

2. Soma hadithi ifuatayo kisha ujibu maswali.

Siku moja, Simba na Swara waliamua kwenda mawindoni.
“Walete wanao kwangu ili wacheze pamoja wakitusubiri tuwaletee vitoweo.” Swara
alimwambia Simba. Simba alikubali kwani alimwamini sana rafikiye Swara.
Walifululiza hadi kichakani kuwinda kama ilivyokuwa kawaida yao. Ghafla, Simba
akajisingizia kukumbwa na jambo fulani. Alimwomba Swara aendelee kuwinda, yeye
akimbie nyumbani kidogo. Swara alikubali mara moja. Simba alitimua mbio.
Alitoka
shoti na kurudi nyumbani kwake. Alipata Simba akipiga unyende huku amejishika kichwa
hivi.
“Kuna nini mwenzangu?” Swara aliuliza. “Jamani hawa watoto wameingia kwenye
shimo gani? Kweli mzee Fisi anaweza kuwa amewageuza kitoweo?” Alijisemea Simba
bila kumwangalia Swara. Wakati wote huu Swara alikuwa anamtazama Simba kana
kwamba hajamwambia lolote la kushughulisha. Swara alivuta fikra akaanza kumshuku
Simba. Akajiuliza, “Kwa nini Simba aliniacha kichakani na kurudi nyumbani wakati ule?”
Alianza kumfuata Simba kisiri kila mara.
Siku moja, Swara alibaki kinywa wazi alipomwona Simba akiingia katika boma
lake la siri. Aliwaona watoto wao wote wakicheza kwa furaha. Hakuweza kujificha tena.
Hadithi yangu inaishia hapo.

ZOEZI III: NOVELA (Alama 10)

Mandongo. Wakati mwingine, Mamafua angeshiriki hata shughuli za ujenzi kusudi
mwanawe asikose cha kutia tumboni. Hakika Mamafua alikuwa mwenye bidii ya mchwa.
Fatuma naye alizidi kutia bidii masomoni.
Fatuma
naye alizidi kutia bidii masomoni.
Wanahabari
kutoka idhaa mbalimbali walifika.
Hata
Makali alizipata habari hizo kutoka huko alikokuwa. Machozi ya furaha yalimtiririka.
Mashirika mbalimbali yaliahidi kufadhili masomo ya Fatuma. Aidha, shule
