ADJECTIVES

Comparative adjectives have two forms:

Comparative. The comparative form is used to compare two things, people, places, …

Comparative of equality.
When one of the things, people, places … has as + adjective + as
the same of a quality as the other.
Comparative of inferiority.
When one of the things, people, places … has less + adjective + than
less of a quality than the other.
adjective - er + than
Comparative of superiority. (one-syllable adjectives,
two-syllable adjectives ending in –y, -ow, -le, -er)
When one of the things, people, places … has
more + adjective + than
more of a quality than the other (most two-syllable adjectives,
three-or-more-syllable adjectives)

Superlative. The superlative form is used to compare three or more things, people, places, …

the + adjective - est + of / in


Superlative to a higher degree. (one-syllable adjectives,
two-syllable adjectives ending in –y, -ow, -le, -er)
When one of the things, people, places … has
the most + adjective + of / in
more of a quality than the others. (most two-syllable adjectives,
three-or-more-syllable adjectives)

Superlative to a lower degree.


When one of the things, people, places … has the least + adjective + of / in
less of a quality than the others.
