Justification´s Statistical Data

Student name Ruben Dario Hurtado
Statistic No 1 The ports also get their digital transformation

Emerging technologies such as the internet of things

promise to revolutionize this sector by improving your
workflows and saving costs.
A few weeks ago, from space, a rocket from the
SpaceX aerospace company of Elon Musk landed in
the Atlantic Ocean on a floating platform for drones.
That event, according to Pablo Marrone, architect of
Cisco Digital Solutions, can give notions of the
revolution that comes to free zones, ports and
maritime and river commerce, with the digital
transformation applied to this sector.
To land the possibilities, Marrone says that the Long
Beach container terminal (United States), met its
objective of having the cheapest container terminal
on the market by reducing its expenses by 15% by
getting the cargo to be sensed.
It also explains that the Port Authority of Hamburg
made its port "one of the most efficient in the world",
because all road sensors are connected through an IP
network to monitor traffic flow, which allows to
determine how much traffic it crosses the bridge to
inform its design, maintenance and renewal schedules
within the port circuit, and thus guarantee availability
and mobility of the terrestrial circuit.
These are possible solutions thanks to the internet of
things (IoT), that technology that will make cities
smart and impact all sectors. All these possibilities
were discussed in the Integrated Free Zones and Ports
Congress held by Andi, which culminated on Friday in
Cartagena.
For the Spanish strategist Rafael Salazar this is one of
the emerging technologies that have an impact on
logistics and ports, because each of the devices,
containers, a ship or a merchandise, can go with an
electronic sensor connected to the internet.
That not only allows real-time understanding of
where the merchandise or ship is located,
revolutionizing the ability to track and reduce
economic losses.

Statistic No 2 Digital transformation for companies in the new
economy

In this globalized world it is necessary to implement

solutions that allow organizations to be truly
competitive.
Digital transformation. The term has been understood
in different ways and there are several definitions, but
the Center for Research and Development in
Information Technology and Communications
(CINTEL) states it as “the optimal use of Information
Technology and Communications (ICT) by
organizations, in their different processes, in their
products and services, and in the business model, for
the achievement of their corporate purpose”.
The entity explains that, in this sense, Colombian
companies continue to advance, highlighting that the
Global Digital Transformation Maturity Index had a
growth of 9.1 percent in the last two years, from
57.64 percent in 2016 to 62, 88 percent in 2018.
These figures highlight that the companies in the
country are aware that technology becomes the most
important leverage of their businesses.
Guillermo Arturo Varón, Engineering Manager of
UPSistemas, states that “it is important to be clear
that any type of company is called to participate in
Economy 4.0, whether implementing the innovations
necessary for its operation, customer service or
growth, and diversification of your products and
services, or because your competition is doing it and
sooner or later you will have to get on that train to
keep up. ”
Also, because customers and consumers are starting
to develop their own businesses and implement
various cutting-edge technologies in their day to day.
“We talked about improving processes with the
Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI),
opening new service fronts and improving existing
ones with Machine Learning, gaining precision and
effectiveness in processes and offer with Big Data and
analytics, and more, ”adds Varón.
“Ideally, you should go to suppliers that offer
comprehensive services, that is, that can implement
everything related to the company's infrastructure.
While having several suppliers can generate certain
savings, it would be impossible to coordinate their
efforts and guarantees, ”says the UPSystems
Engineering manager.
In this regard, the ICT Ministry emphasizes that,
according to figures from the Adoption Index of
Mature Technologies, released in December last year,
this type of implementation has been growing in
recent years.
Even the gap between large companies and micro,
small and medium enterprises has been closing.

Statistic No 3 The IDB and MinTIC promote the digital
transformation of Colombian companies led by
women

Through the ‘Women Entrepreneurs Leading the

Digital Age’ workshop, women entrepreneurs trained
in digital skills.
With the support of Google, IBM, Mercado Pago and
the Colombian Chamber of Electronic Commerce, 300
women entrepreneurs were trained in digital skills
through the workshop 'Women Entrepreneurs
Leading the Digital Era', which was held last Thursday,
December 6 in Bogota.
In the workshop, women entrepreneurs learned the
importance of implementing technology in their
business processes, how to create digital business
strategies and how to take advantage of electronic
commerce to boost the growth of their companies.
The event, held by the Inter-American Development
Bank (IDB), through its Women ConnectAmericas
initiative, and the Ministry of Information Technology
and Communications of Colombia (MinTIC), was
created with the aim of generating an innovative
space in which women entrepreneurs from different
sectors know a little more about the benefits,
challenges and opportunities that the Internet and
digital technologies offer them to grow their
businesses and make them more competitive.
The Vice President of the Republic, Marta Lucía
Ramírez, stressed the importance of this type of
initiative: “Training and training are fundamental tools
for the empowerment of women. These projects aim
to strengthen the skills of women entrepreneurs, to
provide them with skills and knowledge to be part of
the new digital economy in the era of the fourth
industrial revolution. I welcome the commitment of
the Minister, the IDB and the participating technology
companies to make women actively participate in the
business world”
In turn, the ICT Minister, Sylvia Constaín, highlighted
the importance for the Ministry of promoting the
access, use and appropriation of ICT by small and
medium enterprises, especially those led by women:
“In Colombia we have women who work so that we
can have a well connected and more appropriate
country. They design software, videogames,
animations, digital content, ICT technology solutions
for different productive sectors and thus improve the
living conditions of the environment in which they
operate. They lead changes in their communities and
have found in the access to ICT work and
improvement opportunities for themselves and their
families. They are inspiration for the new
generations.”
For his part, the head of Operations of the IDB in
Colombia, Ramiro Lopez-Ghio, who participated in the
opening of the event, said that “Colombia has the
highest growth rate of women entrepreneurs in the
region. However, the vast majority of women-led
businesses fail to grow beyond the microenterprise
category. Precisely the low adoption of technology in
their businesses stands out as one of the main
barriers. From the IDB, we seek to articulate efforts
with public and private actors to strengthen the
digital skills and competencies of Colombian
entrepreneurs, thus contributing to reducing the
barriers that impact the growth of their enterprises,
improving their competitiveness and preparing them
to get the most out of the opportunities that the
digital economy brings. ”
The IDB has a great commitment to gender equity and
the promotion of women's economic empowerment
throughout the region. In May 2016, it launched the
online business platform, Mujeres ConnectAmericas
to connect women entrepreneurs with real business
opportunities and offer them innovative digital tools
to improve the management of their companies,
impacting more than 25,000 of them. Likewise, as
part of this initiative, the IDB together with nine
multinationals committed to the # 100kChallenge
campaign to train, connect and certify more than
100,000 women entrepreneurs in the region, through
Mujeres ConnectAmericas. This workshop is precisely
framed within the efforts of this campaign.
