This advisory is to inform you that Service Bulletin SEB05-4 has been issued to announce the availability of
a new replacement fuel selector valve.
Compliance is recommended; should be accomplished whenever an existing fuel selector valve requires
replacement or sooner if desired.
The information contained in the referenced Cessna Service Bulletin shall be considered an amendment to
the Cessna Manufacturer's Service/Maintenance Manual and should be accomplished within the specified
time requirement.

ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
1. Make sure that all switches are in the OFF/NORM position and disconnect electrical power from the
airplane by disconnecting the battery and external electrical power. Attach maintenance warning tags
to the battery and external power receptacle stating: DO NOT CONNECT ELECTRICAL POWER -
MAINTENANCE IN PROGRESS.
WARNING: OBEY ALL FUEL, SAFETY AND MAINTENANCE PRECAUTIONS.
WARNING: REMOVE ALL IGNITION SOURCES FROM THE AIRPLANE AND ALL VAPOR
HAZARD AREAS. Some typical examples of ignition sources are: static electricity,
electrically powered equipment (tools or electronic test equipment) - both airplane
and support equipment, smoking, sparks from metal tools, electronic communication
devices such as: cellular phones, pagers and radios.
2. Drain all of the fuel from the airplane.
3. Remove interior furnishings and access panels as necessary to get access to the fuel selector valve.
4. Place a suitable container below the fuel selector valve drain line or plug as necessary.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL SELECTOR VALVE IS IN THE BOTH ON POSITION.
5. Drain the fuel from the fuel selector valve.
A. (For all model 140 and 140A airplanes) Remove the drain plug from the drain line to drain the
trapped fuel.
B. (For all model 170, 170A and 170B airplanes) Remove the drain plug from the fuel selector valve.
6. Disconnect the lines from the fuel selector valve.
A. (For all model 140 and 140A airplanes) Remove and keep the fuel selector valve drain line.
7. Disconnect the handle assembly from the fuel selector valve.
8. Remove and discard the fuel selector valve assembly from the airplane.
A. (For model 170 airplanes, serial numbers 18574 thru 18729) Remove and discard the fuel selector
valve mounting bracket from the firewall.
9. Remove the rivet that holds the pivot to the spacer on the handle assembly.
A. Keep the handle assembly and the spacer.
B. Discard the rivet and pivot.
C. (For model 170 airplanes, serial numbers 18574 thru 18729 and all model 170A and 170B airplanes)
Discard the lower shaft and both pivots.

10. (For all model 140A airplanes) (Refer to Figure 1.) Install the fuel selector valve.
A. Apply A-A-59313 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of two AS5194D0604 Adapters, one
0511196-0 Adapter and one AS5194D0602 Adapter. Do not apply the anti-seize compound to
the first two threads of the adapters or plug.
B. Install the adapters in the 9851118-1 Valve.
CAUTION: TORQUE ALL ADAPTERS TO THE MINIMUM TORQUE VALUE.
C. Torque the AS5194D0604 Adapters 105 to 115-inch pounds.
CAUTION: TORQUE THE 0511196-0 ADAPTER TO THE MINIMUM TORQUE VALUE. IF THE
FEMALE FITTING IS OPPOSITE OF THE HOUSING, CONTINUE TO TIGHTEN
THE FITTING. DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM TORQUE VALUE OR LOOSEN
THE ADAPTER.
D. Torque the 0511196-0 Adapter 105 to 115 inch-pounds.
E. Torque the AS5194D0602 Adapter 45 to 55 inch-pounds.
F. Install the 9851118-1 Valve in the airplane with two AN3-4A Bolts and two MS21044N3 Nuts.
G. Install the handle assembly.
(1) Make sure that the valve housing and handle are in the BOTH ON position.
(2) Install one 0511825-1 Pivot on the handle assembly with one MS20615-4M12 Rivet and one
NAS1149FN432P Washer.
NOTE: The pivot should have free movement and not bind after the rivet is installed.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL SELECTOR VALVE ASSEMBLY HANDLE
POINTS TOWARD THE OUTLET LINE THAT SUPPLIES FUEL TO THE
ENGINE. THIS IS THE BOTH ON POSITION. IT IS CRITICAL THAT BOTH
THE 9851118-1 VALVE AND THE HANDLE ASSEMBLY ARE IN THE
BOTH ON POSITION BEFORE THEY ARE CONNECTED.
(3) Connect the handle and shaft assembly to the 9851118-1 Valve with one NAS561-3-8 Pin and
safety with 0.032-inch diameter safety wire.
H. Connect the drain line assembly to the AS5194D0602 Adapter.
11. (For all model 170 airplanes) (Refer to Figure 2 and Figure 3.) Install the fuel selector valve.
A. Apply A-A-59313 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of the AS5194D0604 and MS20823-6D
Adapters as necessary. Do not apply the anti-seize compound to the first two threads of the adapters.
B. Install the adapters on the 9851118-1 Valve.
CAUTION: TORQUE ALL ADAPTERS TO THE MINIMUM TORQUE VALUE.
C. Torque the AS5194D0604 Adapters and MS20823-6D Adapter to 105 to 115 inch-pounds.
D. (For model 170 airplanes, serial numbers 18000 thru 18573) (Refer to Figure 2.) Install the
9851118-1 Valve in the airplane with two AN3-4A Bolts and two MS21044N3 Nuts.
(1) Make sure that the handle and the fuel selector valve are in the BOTH ON position.
(2) Connect the fuel lines to the fuel selector valve.
(3) Install the handle and shaft assembly in the airplane.
(a) Make sure that the valve housing and handle are in the BOTH ON position.

(b) Install one 0511825-1 Pivot on the handle assembly with one MS20615-4M12 Rivet and
one NAS1149FN432P Washer.
NOTE: The pivot should have free movement and not bind after the rivet is installed.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL SELECTOR VALVE ASSEMBLY
HANDLE POINTS TOWARD THE OUTLET LINE THAT SUPPLIES
FUEL TO THE ENGINE. THIS IS THE BOTH ON POSITION. IT IS
CRITICAL THAT BOTH THE 9851118-1 VALVE AND THE HANDLE
ASSEMBLY ARE IN THE BOTH ON POSITION BEFORE THEY ARE
CONNECTED.
(c) Connect the handle and shaft assembly to the 9851118-1 Valve with one NAS561-3-8 Pin
and safety with 0.032-inch diameter safety wire.
E. (For model 170 airplanes, serial numbers 18574 thru 18729) (Refer to Figure 3.) Install the
9851118-1 Valve on the 0590007-4 Bracket Assembly with two AN3-4A Bolts and two MS21044N3
Nuts.
(1) Install the fuel selector valve and mounting bracket on the firewall with four AN525-832R8
Screws.
(2) Connect the fuel lines to the fuel selector valve.
(3) Install one 0511825-1 Pivot on the 0590007-6 Shaft.
(a) Install one 0511825-1 Pivot on the end of the 0590007-6 Shaft with the pre-drilled hole
with one MS20470AD4-12 Rivet.
(4) Temporarily install the handle assembly in the instrument panel bracket.
(a) Make sure that the handle and the fuel selector valve are in the BOTH ON position.
(b) Temporarily install one 0511825-1 Pivot on the 0590007-6 Shaft.
(c) Temporarily connect the 0590007-6 Shaft to the fuel selector valve, use the installed
pivot on the fuel selector valve.
(d) Identify the location where the hole in the pivot aligns with the 0590007-6 Shaft.
(e) Remove the 0590007-6 Shaft from the fuel selector valve.
(f) Drill one 0.128-inch diameter hole in the 0590007-6 Shaft at the identified location.
(g) Remove material from the end of the 0590007-6 Shaft until the distance from the center
of the drilled hole to the end of the shaft is 0.125 inch.
(h) Make sure that the handle and the fuel selector valve are in the BOTH ON position.
(i) Attach the drilled end of the 0590007-6 Shaft to the handle assembly spacer with one
0511825-1 Pivot, MS20615-4M12 Rivet and one NAS1149FN432P Washer.
NOTE: The pivot should have free movement and not bind after the rivet is installed.
(j) Install the handle assembly in the airplane.
(k) Connect the handle and shaft assembly to the fuel selector valve with one NAS561-3-8
Pin and safety with 0.032-inch diameter safety wire.
12. (For all model 170A and 170B airplanes) (Refer to Figure 4.) Install the fuel selector valve.
A. Apply A-A-59313 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of two AS5194D0604 Adapters, one
0511196-0 Adapter and one MS20913-1D Plug. Do not apply the anti-seize compound to the first
two threads of the adapters.
B. Install the adapters on the 9851118-1 Valve.

CAUTION: TORQUE ALL ADAPTERS TO THE MINIMUM TORQUE VALUE.
C. Torque the AS5194D0604 Adapters 105 to 115 inch-pounds.
CAUTION: TORQUE THE 0511196-0 ADAPTER TO THE MINIMUM TORQUE VALUE. IF THE
FEMALE FITTING IS OPPOSITE OF THE HOUSING, CONTINUE TO TIGHTEN
THE FITTING. DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM TORQUE VALUE OR LOOSEN
THE ADAPTER.
D. Torque the 0511196-0 Adapter 105 to 115 inch-pounds.
E. Torque the MS20913-1D Plug 45 to 55 inch-pounds.
F. Safetywire the MS20913-1D Plug to the 05911196-0 Adapter.
G. Make sure that the handle and the fuel selector valve housing are in the BOTH ON position.
H. Install the 9851118-1 Valve in the airplane with two AN3-4A Bolts and two MS21044N3 Nuts.
I. Connect the fuel lines to the fuel selector valve assembly.
J. Install one 0511825-1 Pivot on the 0590007-7 Shaft.
(1) Install one 0511825-1 Pivot on the end of the 0590007-7 Shaft with the pre-drilled hole with
one MS20470AD4-12 Rivet.
K. Temporarily install the 0590007-7 Shaft on the fuel selector valve assembly, use the installed pivot
on the fuel selector valve.
L. Temporarily install one 0511825-1 Pivot on the 0590007-7 Shaft.
M. Identify the location where the hole in the pivot aligns with the 0590007-7 Shaft.
N. Remove the 0590007-7 Shaft from the fuel selector valve.
O. Drill one 0.128-inch diameter hole in the 0590007-7 Shaft at the identified location.
P. Remove material from the end of the 0590007-7 Shaft until the distance from the center of the
drilled hole to the end of the shaft is 0.125-inch.
Q. Make sure that the handle and the fuel selector valve housing are in the BOTH ON position.
R. Attach the drilled end of the 0590007-7 Shaft to the handle assembly spacer with one 0511825-1
Pivot, MS20615-4M12 Rivet and one NAS1149FN432P Washer.
NOTE: The pivot should have free movement and not bind after the rivet is installed.
S. Attach one 0511825-1 Pivot to the lower end of the 0590007-7 Shaft with one MS20470AD4-12 Rivet.
T. Install the handle assembly in the airplane.
U. Connect the handle and shaft assembly to the fuel selector valve with one NAS561-3-8 Pin and
safety with 0.032-inch diameter safety wire.
13. Add fuel to the wing tanks.
A. Check for leaks at the fittings on the fuel selector valve assembly.
(1) If leaks are found, tighten the fittings to the maximum torque allowed, but do not exceed
the maximum torque.
(2) If the leaks are not repaired by tightening to the maximum torque, both the valve and the
adapters should be replaced.
B. Make sure that all positions on the fuel selector valve assembly work properly.
(1) Turn fuel selector valve to the "OFF" position.
(2) Open the fuel filter drain valve. After the fuel filter bowl is empty, no more fuel should flow out.

(3) With the fuel filter drain valve still open, rotate the fuel selector valve to the "LEFT" position.
Fuel should flow out of the fuel filter drain valve.
(4) Rotate the fuel selector valve to the "RIGHT" position. Fuel should flow out of the fuel filter
drain valve.
(5) Rotate the fuel selector valve to the "BOTH" position. Fuel should flow out of the fuel filter
drain valve.
(6) Rotate the fuel selector valve to the "OFF" position. Fuel should not flow out of the fuel filter
drain valve.
(7) Close the fuel filter drain valve. Rotate the fuel selector valve to the "BOTH" position and check
the fuel filter drain valve for leaks.
14. Install the interior furnishings and access panels that were removed to install the fuel selector valve
assembly.
15. Remove maintenance warning tags and connect the airplane battery.
16. Make an entry in the airplane logbook stating this Service Kit has been installed.
