Storyboarding with Photostory Get to know your Camera 1.

Locate and press the Power button on top of the camera to turn it on. 2. Check with your partner to ensure that you both have cameras turned on 3. Some images may be stored on the camera. Find out how to access them. The icon for still images may look like a camera Check with your partner and then ensure that other teams around you can access the stored images also. 4. Take a sample photograph and then check how it looks using the play button 5. Swap with you partner and repeat 6. Go to your google docs and create a document entitled steps in creating a photostory. Note on the document how to access stored images on yours and your partners camera. 7. Identify the symbols for video , still photographs

Preparing to storyboard with still images A storyboard is a collection of still images connected to form a story 1. With your partner decide on a story / stories that you will write to teach a topic in class. Decide on the images that you will include in your story including text. You can access images from the internet, or textbooks or any other sources available to you. You can use some text or hand drawn images. (You can photograph the hand drawn images or use a scanner if available). 2. Sketch or list your images and text to create your story. You could use a grid to visualise your ideas.

3. Use 8-10 images. Take a blank image as it may be useful as a Transition later. Agree with your partner on interdependent roles / tasks as you work together. Framing a shot Rule of thirds: Imagine an image subdivided into 9 equal parts. The dominant subject matter in the photograph is placed one third up or down the image or one third from the left or right side of the image.

To photograph a person in profile a person facing right should be centred on the left hand third and a person facing left should be centred on the right hand third. Leading lines guide your viewer to see the important part of your photo and bring focus to your subject. Check with your colleague that they understand these basic principles. Connecting camera to computer Find the lead and connects that connects the camera with the computer and attach the camera to the computer with theis lead Check with your partner and with colleagues around you. Make a note in your document (in google docs) You may have to Wait for the dialogue box to appear on screen From the list of options select Take no action The Dialogue box dissappears To make photostory Microsoft Photo Story is a free application that allows users to create a show and tell presentation from their digital photos. Click Start, all programmes and find photostory (photostory 3) from the list of programmes.

Check that your partner and those around you have found this.

Select begin a new story and click next

Select import pictures. Search to find digital camera from the look in drop down menu Select the images you want, by holding the ctrl button down while selecting you can insert more than one picture simultaneously.

Continue to check your partner and those around you to ensure that all are able to do this. The selected images should appear on a time line. Blank images can be uploaded a number of times if required at this stage. The order of the images can be changed by clicking on an image and using the or arrows on the right hand side. Photo Story has several image editing options including the ability to adjust the colour levels, crop or rotate the image, remove red eye, and apply effects such as black and white or water colour filters. Edit your images to suit and select Next To write on images Click on an image. In the dialogue window write your chosen text. This step is optional as adding voice over is the next step. Adjust the font, colour and position of your text to suit using the buttons above the text box. When finished click next Narration / Voice over Connect microphone to computer. Plug in to microphone symbol. Check with your partner and those around you that you have got the correct connection. If this is the first time you are using Microsoft Photo Story, you may like to configure your microphone first to ensure that you are getting the best possible sound quality Note the procedure in your word doc Select the first image for which you wish to add voiceover Click on large circular button with the red dot on the Right hand side of the image Decide the wording of voiceover with your partner and then record by speaking into the microphone

Click second button with square centre to finish your voice recording. If you make a mistake you can simply erase your narration and record it again by clicking on the third and smallest circular button. Click preview button to check quality of your voiceover Repeat this procedure as often as desired for relevant images Click next Click Preview to ensure that you are happy with the your presentation. Click next again

Click Browse Save file to desktop and give it a suitable name Click next and wait a few moments for the final dialogue box to appear and click Exit
