The inside of my house
I would like to tell you a few words about my home. I live in Rivne, which is located in the West of
Ukraine. Our family live in a new flat in one of the bedroom communities. We moved into our flat about
16 years ago. It is a three – room flat on the second floor of a tenth – storey building. It consists of a
living room, a kitchen, a lavatory, a hall, a study room and a bedroom. There are two balconies in our
flat: the first one is in the kitchen, the second – in the study room. Our flat has all modern conveniences
– central heating, gas, Internet connection, running cold and hot water, electricity and a telephone. The
flat commands a beautiful view of the local park, where usually there are lots of children and people
with small dogs.
Our living room is quite a big room of about 30 square meters. It is the largest room in our flat. The
walls are made of red brick and decorated with plaster. The floor is covered with laminate, which looks
attractive. As my parents don’t like much furniture in the house, so in the living room there are three
pretty houseplants and a soft sofa, a big flat – screen TV and a wall unit. On the right there is a
windowsill, that commands our balcony. It is very large, has some blinds and full – length brown
curtains. Near the windowsill, there is a coffee table, where my mum or I usually do the ironing. On the
extreme right there is a large wardrobe, where my parent’s cloth, our cases and outerwear are kept. A
nice chandelier is hanging from the ceiling and there are some knick – knacks on the wall unit. During
the day, the light comes in through the window, but at night, when it gets dark, we switch on the light
and draw the curtains across the windows.
Speaking about my bedroom, it’s important to say, that the walls are made of red brick and are
decorated with glossy - patterned wallpaper. The floor is a polished parquet with a pretty, deep pile
carpet and there is a nice, contemporary chandelier in the middle of the snow - white ceiling. As you
come into my room, you can see a tall brown wardrobe, where I keep my clothes, which I hang on coat
– hangers. Next to it, there is a working table with a few drawers on the right, where I keep my books.
On the left there is a big casement window surrounded by a white, flowery – patterned net curtain. Next
to the window there is a single bed with a night table on the right. There are few tastefully selected
reproductions above my bed. On the extreme right there is a beautiful brown dressing table, mad’e of
wood with a medium – sized mirror above it. There are a few drawers, where I keep bed linen and
cosmetics.
My favorite room is our kitchen. Perhaps the kitchen is the most important room in many houses, but
it is particularly so in our house because it’s not only where we cook and eat but it’s also the main
meeting place for family and friends. Whenever we have a party, people gravitate with their drinks to
the kitchen. It always ends up the fullest and the noisiest room in the house. So, what does this special
room look like? It’s quite big, but not huge. The floor is made of ceramic tiles, the walls are of a red
brick and there are some glossy patterns above an electric cooker. When you come in my kitchen, the
first, you will notice, is a good – sized round glass table with a set of matching chairs, which is the focal
point of the room. On the right there are kitchen units comprising wall cabinets, a microwave oven, a
sink and a cooker hood. There is an electric cooker with 4 burners, an oven, where we usually bake
cakes and pies. At one end, there is a massive sink, where there is a dishcloth, a kitchen sponge and a
scourer above it, at the other end there is a drawer, where a bread bin and lots of wine glasses are kept.
On the extreme left there is a refrigerator with a freezer, where various berries and vegetables are kept.
In addition, there is a snow – white worktop, where my mum or I usually cook or bake. Opposite the
electric cooker there is a drawer, with lots of sauce pans, frying pans and various kitchen utensils.
Without doubt some of the happiest times of my life have been spent in our kitchen.
My bathroom becomes the most important and useful in the morning, when everybody wakes up and
is in a hurry to be the first there. Fortunately, we have a big bathroom with tiled floor and walls. So,
when the alarm-clock rings, I quietly put on my terry bathrobe and slippers and go there, where I turn on
the hot and cold-water taps. While the water runs into the bathtub, I wash my face and neck, brush my
teeth and comb my hair. Then I turn off the taps and have my bath. My bathtub is quite big with a beige
shower curtain. The top shelf is full of different knick – knacks: a shampoo, shower gels, razors and a
candle. On the bottom one there is a bar of a scented and a liquid soap. Near the washbasin there are our
toothbrushes, a tube of a toothpaste and a facecloth. There is a huge mirror above it. On the extreme left
there is a towel rail, where terry towels are kept. On the right there is a laundry basket, where all our
dirty laundry is kept. There is also a toilet pan with a press – button flush and a toilet roll holder.
So, our flat is a quite big with all modern conveniences and peaceful atmosphere, where one can
spend free time.
