Ways to develop your unique talents

In our blog this week, three teenagers share their top tips for developing your talents.
Otto (15), Berlin, Germany
I’ve always been good at playing football and in 2017 I was selected for my regional football team. We
won the National Finals in 2018 and then we won it again this year. It’s more than just a sport for me;
it’s my passion. Setting clear goals and working hard to achieve them is my top tip.
Laura (16), London, England
I love painting, drawing and most of all, acting. By the time I was fifteen, I had appeared in three films.
One of them became very famous. Success wasn’t in the bag for me, however. I auditioned for years
and experienced many failures. I think making mistakes is a key part of learning and developing your
talents. If you learn from your mistakes, you can use them to make a plan to improve.
Ana (18), Valencia, Spain
I wasn’t always good at English. In fact, I failed some of my exams at first. But I worked hard to
improve and I finally passed with flying colours. This taught me that it doesn’t matter if you fall at the
first hurdle. The key to success is to persevere. Never give up! Now I’ve got a place at university in
Ireland next year. By the time I finish my degree, I plan to be an expert! I think that speaking another
language is one of the best skills you can have for your future career.

Dear Teacher Manuela,

I hope you are having a great day. My name is Veronica Rodriguez and I am from class 1004. I

am writing to share with you my goals for this academic year and the plan I have developed to
achieve them. I am searching for your opinion and guidance in the process as my teacher, as I
believe that setting clear goals and objectives is essential for success.
This year, I want to improve my learning skills, including research and writing, critical analysis and
interpretation of information, to improve my understanding of information across various subjects,

in order to achieve better results. In addition, I would like to enhance my writing and communication
skills to express my ideas more effectively during class participation, as well as in essays and
and presentations. Beyond academics, I also hope to develop better time management skills to
effectively balance my personal activities and schoolwork time more efficiently.
To achieve these goals, I have created a plan that includes dedicating extra time on weekends to
review the most challenging topics, actively participating in class discussions, and watching videos
or reading books to gain a deeper understanding of topics and improve on the assignments.
Additionally, I plan to incorporate exercise routines and mindfulness practices to support my
physical and mental well-being.
I am committed to achieve significant improvements in the areas to strengthen and I appreciate

your time, support and advice teacher Manuela.

Best regards, Verónica Rodríguez Socha.

and I am writing to share with you my academic and personal goals for this school year.
I would greatly appreciate your guidance and opinion about the plan I have developed
to work towards achieving my goals, in order to chart my path to success.
This year, my main goal is to improve my organizational skills, in order to manage my
tasks and responsibilities more effectively, completing all assignments on time, by
creating schedules, and prioritizing tasks. Additionally, I want to improve my
problem-solving skills, particularly in subjects like math and science, but using it in all
