Part 1: In this part I’m going to ask you to compare two pictures
and I will then ask you two questions about them. You will have
45 seconds for each response.
1. Describe what you see in the two pictures.
In these two pictures, I can see two different places for families to
travel. In the first picture on the left, there is a 3-member family at the
beach on their holiday. The parents are playing tag game with their
little son. They all seem very happy and delighted, as they are
laughing comfortably. The weather is also incredibly nice and may be
a bit chilly, since all of them are wearing thin coats. Meanwhile, the
second picture on the right also describes a family of three. The
biggest difference is the trip location, as they are hiking on a
mountain. They’re wearing sportswear and are full of energy. They
are taking a family photo in the sunny weather
2. Which place is more suitable for young people?
From my perspective, it really depends on each person’s preference. I mean if
some young people are more active and prefer adventurous activities like
hiking or trekking, they’d like to travel to remote mountainous areas. Because
these activities require more physical demand, they will suit those who have
good strength and stamina. Also, exploring exotic new things and enjoying
breathtaking views from the mountain are desperately wonderful. Meanwhile,
trips at the beach may be more suitable for the young who look for an ideal
place to wind down. They can immerse themselves in fresh water and wind,
therefore recharging their battery after hard days. There are also a lot of
interesting water activities if they’re interested in, such as swimming, sailing
or scuba diving.
3. How important is vacation?
Vacation is absolutely important for everyone, as it can help them achieve a
good work-life balance. People all need to relax after long working hours to
avoid both physical and mental health problems, such as obesity, tiredness or
depression. They can unwind, release their stress and tension, as well as
recharge their battery when they stay in a comfortable environment, and who
knows, maybe a new place may also boost their creativity and inspiration.
Moreover, holidays are also a wonderful time for all members in a family as
they can gather and do multiple activities together, which they hardly do in
their casual days due to their busy life.
Part 2: In this part I’m going to ask you three questions. You will
have one minute to think about your answers before you start
speaking. You will have two minutes to answer all three
questions.
- Tell me about a teacher you admire. (appearance - why - )
- Why?
- What qualities should a good teacher have? (patience, knowledge,
communication , enthusiasm …)
+ patience -> instruct students until they understand ….
I’d like to tell you about one of the excellent mentors I was really fortunate to
work with in some of my academic years. This is Chloe, who is not only my
maths teacher, but also a beloved instructor who inspired me a lot to achieve
many goals in my life. Now she’s in her fifties but she looks younger than her
age. She was slim with long black hair. She was my maths teacher throughout
my high school years.
What impressed me the most about her was her teaching method, I mean how
dedicated she was to deliver in each lesson. I’ve never seen her get angry,
even when we didn’t understand and couldn’t solve the maths problems. In
these cases, she would be very patient to assist us in resolving any issues.
Furthermore, I also admire her wise knowledge. She was not only
knowledgeable about maths, but also about a large number of other subjects
such as English, or History as she could talk about those for hours.
Thanks to her dedication, we could pass the university entrance examination
with flying colors.
I really want to become a teacher like her. I think in order to become a good
teacher, I have to train myself to gain qualities that a good teacher needs to
have. Firstly, I need to improve knowledge unceasingly, so I can pass on
valuable and precious information to my students. Secondly, patience is a
very crucial quality for a teacher as she can listen to her students’ difficulties
and find ways to help them overcome them. Another point is communication
as delivering lessons is an indispensable part for a teacher, she needs to find
the suitable teaching method for students to guarantee that they can
understand and may feel interested in the lessons.
Part 3: You are going to speak on a topic for one and half
minutes. You can see the topic on the screen and two lists of
points - for and against - related to the topic. Choose two items
from each list and give a balanced argument to represent both
sides of the topic. You have one minute to prepare your
argument. You will then have one and half minutes to speak.
After you finish speaking you will be asked an additional question
about the topic and asked to speak for 45 seconds.
Topic: working from home is more effective than working in the
office
For:
- quiet space, no interruption
- no time wasted commuting to work
- Flexible time
Against:
- isolated from colleagues
- no separation between work and home
- distracting
Some may argue that working from home is a better choice than working in
person in the office. I will discuss both the advantages and disadvantages of
telecommuting in the following speech.
On the one hand, working at home really benefits workers in some aspects. It
is undeniable that the working time is very flexible. Workers don’t have to
work in fixed time anymore, they can do anytime they want, maybe they can
have a lie-in in the morning, or they can do their housework or take care of
their children when there’s nobody at home, as long as they finish their tasks
on time. Another notable upside is workers can save a lot of time which is
inherently spent travelling. Commuting to work from home during rush hours
and vice versa is a nightmare, it not only takes them a great deal of time
getting stuck in traffic jams, but also negatively affects their health.
On the other hand, there are some drawbacks caused by telecommuting that
shouldn’t be ignored. First, staying at home to work means that workers do
not have chances to interact directly with their colleagues like having lunch or
simply having chats together , so they may be isolated from them, therefore
shrinking their social relationships. Moreover, it’s easy for workers to be
distracted and bothered by surrounding noises like crying babies, or noise
from their neighbors.
In conclusion, I prefer working at home as I can have more time for myself.
Extra question: People will work longer as life expectancy
increases. What is your view? (45s)
I think when life expectancy rises, people will have more free time after they
retire. So keeping working is a good way for them to improve their brain as
well as their health, as long as they choose suitable jobs with their strength.
Besides, when they are busy with work, they will not feel bored anymore, as
they can communicate and interact with others, and absolutely will find their
life meaningful, I’m sure they would be happier. Another thing is that when
people get older, the burden on the national budget will get heavier due to
huge amounts of money spent on pension and medical fees, and people can
share this problem by working longer.
