THE COMPANY SUPPORTS THE WAR EFFORT.

Civilian car and motorcycle


production was discontinued from
April 1941. All factory capacities were
harnessed to manufacture the aero-
engines that were so crucial to the
war effort.
As early as 1940, BMW used foreign
workers in production. Forced labour
increased the proportion of foreign
workers to 51% in 1944.

BMW RIDES OUT ITS MAJOR CRISIS.

At the Annual General Meeting on 9 December 1959, small shareholders and Dealers
prevent the company from being sold off. With BMW thus making a new Start as an
independent mobility enterprise, Dr Herbert Quandt becomes the Major shareholder.
