Reflection on José Rizal's Biography

Reading about the life of Dr. José Rizal really made me think a lot. It’s amazing how one
person, just because he cared so much about truth, justice, and freedom, ended up inspiring
a whole country. Rizal wasn’t just smart, he was also someone who truly loved the
Philippines. Even if it was dangerous, he still used his skills to show the wrong things
happening under the Spanish rule. He didn’t fight with guns or swords, instead he used
words. His books Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo opened people’s eyes to the truth,
specifically the injustices during the Spanish rule.

What really hit me was his bravery. He knew he could die for what he’s doing, but he didn’t
stop. He just kept on writing and standing up for the truth. He didn’t need to be loud or
strong—just honest and brave. That made me think: what about me? Am I doing something,
even just a little, to help others or make things better around me?

Rizal's story showed me that real love for the country isn’t just saying you love it, it’s about
doing something for it, even when no one sees. It makes me want to live with more purpose,
use whatever talent I have in a good way, and stand up when something’s not right.
1. Why do we need to study the life and works of Rizal?

I believe we study Dr. Jose Rizal’s life and works not just because he’s our national
hero, but because his story really shows us what real love for the country means. He
didn’t use force or violence but instead he used his brain, his heart, and his words to
wake up Filipinos when most people were scared to speak up. Learning about him
made me understand our history more and made me feel thankful for the freedom
we have now or why we should not take our freedom and identity for granted. It’s
not just about what happened before, it’s also about how we can be better today.
Rizal taught us that using our knowledge, thinking wisely, and standing up for what’s
right can really change something.

2. What’s the greatest lesson you learned from Rizal’s life and works?

The biggest thing I learned from Rizal is that you don’t need to be loud or powerful
to make a change. You just need to be brave enough to use what you have. He had
his pen and his ideas, and he used them to fight against injustice. That really hit me.
It made me ask myself, “What can I do with what I have now?” I may not be like
Rizal, but maybe with my own small ways like helping others, being honest, or just
doing good even if no one sees—I can also make a little difference. Rizal reminds me
to live with meaning, to fight for truth, and always do good no matter what.
