ATA REFERENCE MECH INSP


1. WINDSHIELD
a. Inspect windshield for cracks and 56
visibility impairment.
b. Inspect windshield weather seal 56
(Silicone) for debonding, cracks or wear.
c. Inspect windshield weather hump seal
(Polysulfide) for debonding, cracks or 56
wear.
d. Inspect windshield attachment screws for 56
20 inch-pounds of torque.
2. WINDOWS
a. Inspect exterior surface of cockpit side
windows for scratches, cracks, chips, 56
excess crazing or any indication of
delamination.
b. Inspect for any contact of the milled edge
of the window with the airframe skin.
Correct window contact by reinstalling 56
and recentering the window in the
airframe opening.
c. Inspect for any damage from paint
strippers, solvents or any unapproved 56
sealants.
3. ALTERNATE AIR VALVE - Drain off all 34
moisture.
4. SEAT TRACKS - Inspect seat tracks for 25
damage and wear.
5. PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHER - Inspect 26
the bottle for signs of damage and mount for CMM
security of attachment.
6. SEATS, SEAT BELTS and SHOULDER
HARNESSES - Inspect seat belts and 25
shoulder harnesses for deterioration or
missing components.
7. BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR PRESSURE
EQUALIZATION ORIFICE - Clean and flush 32-40-03, 701
orifice of contaminants.

9. HEATING SYSTEM
a. Check all ducts for damage and 21
deterioration.
b. Check bleed air ducts (LJ-502 thru LJ-
1062; LW-1 and After) for damage,
insulation and adequate clearance of
electrical wiring and control cables.
CAUTION:
Prior to installing pilot's compartment
floor panels, visually inspect the 21
entire length of the elevator control
cable in this area to assure adequate
clearance between the cable and
electrical wiring, bleed air ducts,
bleed air duct clamps, and structural
components to prevent chaffing and
wear.
10. FLIGHT COMPARTMENT AREA - Inspect
skin, structure, seats and attaching hardware
for wear, damage and corrosion. If damage or 20-00-00, 601
corrosion is found in a given area, check the
adjacent area.
11. ELECTRICAL WIRING and EQUIPMENT -
Inspect for chafing, damage, proper routing of
wire bundles and security of attachment.
CAUTION:
Prior to installing pilot's compartment
floor panels, visually inspect the entire 20-00-00, 601
length of the elevator control cable in this
area to make sure that there is adequate
clearance between the cable and
electrical wiring, bleed air ducts, bleed air
duct clamps, and structural components
to prevent chaffing and wear.
12. RUDDER PEDALS
a. Inspect rudder pedals for wear, clearance 27
and attachment.
b. Inspect rudder pedal linkage for wear, 27
damage, attachment and operation.

13. FLIGHT CONTROL COMPONENTS,


CABLES and PULLEYS
a. Inspect control system components
(pushrods, turnbuckles, end fittings, 27
castings, pulley brackets, etc.) for bulges, 20-04-00, 201
splits, bends or cracks which are
conditions for replacements.
b. Inspect control system cables, pulleys
and associated equipment for wear,
cracks, breaks, attachment, alignment, 27
clearance and proper operation. Replace 20-04-00, 201
cables that have more than three broken
wires in any given three-foot cable length
or have evidence of corrosion.
c. On LJ-502 thru LJ-1062 and LW-1 thru
LW-347, visually inspect the rudder,
elevator and trim control cables between
FS 116.00 and FS 147.60. Check for
chafing, fraying, broken strands and
adequate clearance. Pay particular
attention to the clearance where the
cable passes the bleed air duct and any
adjacent electrical wiring or components.
CAUTION: 27
The travel of the elevator cable in this 20-04-00, 201
area is not sufficient to expose the
cable for a thorough inspection
without removal of the pilot's seat,
floorboards, reverse current relay
and/or the generator line contactor
panel. Upon installation of removed
components, inspect all adjacent
electrical wiring and components for
adequate clearance with control
cables.
14. BRAKE SYSTEM - Inspect brake system
components and plumbing for leakage and 32
attachment.
15. INSTRUMENT PANEL, PLUMBING and
WIRING - Inspect instrument panel, subpanels,
placards, shock mounts and instrument 31
plumbing for damage, attachment, chafing and
hoses for hardness or cracks.
16. CONTROL COLUMN BEARING INSPECTION 27-10-05, 601
a. Inspect for wear, damage, corrosion, 27
attachment and operation.

in the weld area of adapter on forward 27
side of the control wheel.
c. Inspect control wheel switches for 27
condition and security of attachment.
d. Perform the CONTROL COLUMN

17. PEDESTAL
a. Inspect pedestal components and
plumbing for damage, attachment, 31
chaffing and hoses for hardness or
cracks.
b. Perform the CONDITION CONTROL 76-17-03, 601
CATCH GATE INSPECTION procedure.
18. PRESSURIZATION CONTROLLER
a. Inspect for security of attachment,
plumbing and wiring for damage and 21
connection security.
b. Inspect filter in controller assembly 21
located within the pedestal.
19. ACCESS DOORS - Inspect for fit and 06-50-00, 001
attachment.
20. HEATED WINDSHIELD - Inspect windshield 56
antistatic coating and tab bonding.
21. RELIEF TUBE (If installed)
a. Inspect plumbing and storage box for
corrosion.
b. Inspect relief tube outlet area for
corrosion.
22. ELECTRICAL LOAD DISTRIBUTION -
Perform inspections of the DUAL BUS 24-51-00, 601
FEEDER and FUEL PANEL DIODES.
23. EMERGENCY LANDING GEAR EXTENSION
- Inspect the emergency extension handle
assembly and linkage from the handle to the 32
emergency extension pump for proper
installation, wear and security of attachment.
24. ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM
a. Inspect ducts for condition and security of 21
installation.

leaks and/or degradation, such as 21
discoloration of duct insulator, adjacent
structure or components.
c. Physically inspect ducts by touching
ducts, checking for thermal deterioration,

6. SEAT BELTS and SHOULDER


HARNESSES
a. Inspect seats and shoulder
harnesses for deterioration or 25-20-01, 601
missing components.
b. Inspect shoulder harness attachment
posts for cracked, worn, brittle or 25-20-01, 601
missing grommet (If Installed).
7. OXYGEN SYSTEM
a. Test all outlets and masks for oxygen 35
flow.
b. Inspect oxygen system installation for 35
damage and security of attachment.
8. TOILET (If Installed) - Inspect for spillage 38
and leakage below the toilet.
9. CABIN ENTRANCE DOOR
a. Inspect the door seal for cuts, 52
abrasions and security of attachment.
b. Inspect the cabin door support cables 52
for wear, damage and security.
c. Inspect door latching mechanism and
cables for damage, deterioration and 52
security of attachment.
d. Inspect upper latch hooks and
retaining pins for rigging, wear and 52
damage. Replace pin at 10% 53
diameter wear. (Pin removal
required).
e. Inspect upper latch hooks for proper 52
tension.
f. Inspect side latch bolts (bayonets)
and rollers for rigging and freedom of 52
movement.
g. On LJ-1 thru LJ-1011, except LJ-986
and LJ-996, inspect the forward and
aft frame for cracks in area of 52
bayonet roller attach screws. If cracks 53
are found, inspect adjacent structure
for damage.
h. Inspect the CABIN DOOR / CABIN
DOOR OPEN annunciator switch 52
spring.

b. Check ducts for evidence of thermal
leaks and/or degradation, such as 21
discoloration of duct insulator,
adjacent structure or components.
c. Physically inspect ducts by touching
ducts, checking for thermal
deterioration, deformation of the 21
ducts, and proper connection at the
joints.
27. FLUORESCENT LIGHT POWER
SUPPLIES - (LJ-654, LJ-674 thru LJ-979,
LW-134, LW-157 thru LW-347) - Inspect
the edge card connector and power supply
for contamination and corrosion. Make
sure the edge card is clean and the plug
that slips over the edge card is tight.
