Punctuation Rules in Roman Urdu (Fully Deep)

1. Full Stop ( . )

Naam: Full Stop

Istemaal: Jab sentence complete ho jaye to usay khatam karne ke liye.

Rule: Har declarative sentence (jo koi baat ya info day raha ho) ke end par lagta hai.

Example:

- Main school ja raha hoon.

- Wo cricket khelta hai.

2. Comma ( , )

Naam: Comma

Istemaal: Sentence mein choti choti rukawat dikhane ke liye, list batane ke liye ya clauses separate karne ke

liye.

Rules:

- List banate waqt:

- Mujhe aam, seb, kela aur angoor pasand hain.

- Do clauses ko milane mein:

- Agar baarish hui, to hum nahi jaayenge.

3. Question Mark ( ? )

Naam: Sawal Nishaan

Istemaal: Jab sentence sawali ho.

Rule: Har interrogative sentence ke end mein lagta hai.

Example:

- Kya tum kal ao ge?

- Aaj mausam kaisa hai?

4. Exclamation Mark ( ! )

Naam: Ta'ajub ka Nishaan

Istemaal: Jazbaat (khushi, gussa, hairani) dikhane ke liye.

Rule: Emotional ya strong expressions ke baad use hota hai.

Naam: Colon

Istemaal: Kisi cheez ka explanation ya list dene se pehle.

Rule: Jab kisi point ko expand karna ho ya list deni ho.

Example:

- Tumhein teen cheezein chahiyein: kitaab, pen, aur notebook.

- Usne kaha: "Main kal aaoonga."

6. Semicolon ( ; )

Naam: Semi Colon

Istemaal: Do related sentences ko milane ke liye jab dono independent hoon.

Rule: Jab sentence mukammal ho, magar agla sentence usi se related ho.

Example:

- Mujhe bhook lagi hai; main kuch khanay ja raha hoon.

- Wo thak gaya tha; is liye usne rest kiya.

7. Quotation Marks ( " " ya ' ' )

Naam: Inverted Commas / Quotation Marks

Istemaal: Kisi ka exact dialogue ya lafz quote karne ke liye.

Rule: Jab kisi ka direct jumla likhna ho.

Example:

- Usne kaha, "Main school nahi jaa raha."

- Unho ne kaha, 'Sabar karo.'

8. Apostrophe ( ' )

Naam: Apostrophe

Istemaal: Possession dikhane ke liye ya contracted forms mein.

10. Dash ( -- )

Naam: Dash

Istemaal: Emphasis dene ya interruption dikhane ke liye.

Example:

- Wo -- jo kal aaya tha -- mera cousin hai.

- Main yehi keh raha tha -- samjhay?
