Basic Networking Practical Assignment
Topic: Terminating and Testing Ethernet Cables
Objective:
To learn how to properly attach RJ45 connectors to an Ethernet cable and verify
connectivity using a cable tester.
Materials Required:
      Ethernet cable (Cat5e/Cat6)
      RJ45 connectors
      Crimping tool
      Cable tester
      Wire stripper/cutter
Instructions:
   1. Prepare the Cable: (20 marks)
o Strip approximately 1.5 inches of the outer insulation from both ends of
the Ethernet cable using a wire stripper.
o Untwist and straighten the individual wires.
   2. Arrange the Wires in the Correct Order: (30 marks)
          o Use either T568B wiring standards .
o Arrange the wires in the correct order before inserting them into the
              RJ45 connector.
   3. Insert the Wires into the RJ45 Connector: (15 marks)
o Ensure each wire reaches the end of the connector and maintains the
              correct order.
o Push the wires in fully and verify the alignment.
   4. Crimp the Connector: (15 marks)
o Use the crimping tool to firmly press down on the RJ45 connector,
              securing the wires in place.
o Repeat the process for the other end of the cable.
   5. Test the Cable: (20 marks)
o Insert both ends of the cable into a cable tester.
o Turn on the tester and check the connectivity of all eight wires.
o If the tester indicates a fault, recheck the wiring and re-crimp if
    necessary.
