1. General Information

A. Scope of Applications
This specify panel type GRP sectional water tank for storage potable water.
SMC is sheet molding compound materials that consist of polyester, filler, other components
and reinforced with glass fiber. Panels are made from SMC sheet and shall be
Hot press moulded process. Each panel is assembled by bolts and reinforced
by internal and external support materials and joint part is sealed by sealant.

B. Requirement of Products

The GRP sectional water tank shall pass the requirement of Korean standard
KS F 4811:2005 and British standard BS6920:2000 for portable and living water.

C. Scope of Installation
Installation for water tank includes assemblying GRP panels, base frame, support bar,
ladders and fittings.

D. Structure

Structure of GRP water tank can be adjustable to each shape of buildings such as
square, L shape and O(Center emptied) shape for poles of buidlings.
GRP watet tank needs distance of exterior for installation and maintenance
and ladders need to be fixed.

D-1. Types of Structure

1) Support Type
① Internal reinforced tank is able to install up to 5m height.
The tank reinforced by internally tie rods as stainless steel 316 grade.
② External reinforced tank is able to install up to 3m height.
The tank reinforced by steel mateirals with HDG coated from side panels of tank.

2) Hygiene
This product shall prevent foreign materials from coming inside of water tanks
as drinking water storage tank and shall be suitable for "Regulation and Standard on
Health Control for Water Service" enacted by "The Ministry of Environment".
or WRAS(Water Regulations Advisory Scheme)

3) Drainage from Bottom

This product shall include convex bottom panels to prevent sediment from staying on
bottom and concave drain panels to help cleaning solution be well drained.

4) Partition
Tanks shall have full height internal partition for maintenance purpose when
required. The reinforcing material for the partition shall be Stainless steel grade SS 316
During the operation, both compartments shall be similar water level for tank's
long lasting

2. Specifications of GRP tank

A. GRP Panel
1) Materials of Panel
The materials consist of unsaturated polyester, filler, and glass fiber that increases
durability and stability. The tolerance must be below 0.3% of standard measure.

2) Transparency
Tank should be opaque to help reduce evaporation of disinfectant and inhibit algae
growth. Maximum measured light transmission value inside a closure cover state tank
shall not exceed 0.1%

3) Types of Panel
1) Non-insulated Unit : Assembled by non insulated panel
2) Insulated Unit : Assembled by insulated panels for all panels including bottom
3) Insulated panel : Mateirals of insulated shall be
urethane foaming agent compound.
Insulation thickness shall be 25mm and
it's skin cover shall be impact resistance.

4) Sized of Panel
The tank body shall be configured to quadrilateral panel assembling type abd secure
assemblag space and maintenance space around the tank. The wall panel configuration
shall be as follows: 1m x 1m, 1m x 1.5m and 1m x 2m panels shall be used at the top parts,
while 1m x 1m panel shall be used at the lower parts of the wall.
The panel's width and length as follows: 0.5m x 0.5m, 0.5m x 1m, 0.5m x 1.5m, 0.5m x 2m,
1m x 1m, 1m x 1.5m, 1m x 2m can be applied according to the dimension of water tanks.

5) Thickness of Panel
Each panel have different thickness according to design and water pressure by tank height.

6) Function of Panel
The function of panels shall satisfy the specification prescribed on Korea Standard
KS F 4811:2000 & KSF 2214,2242,2249.

B. Manhole
At least one manhole shall be provided for each water tank, for tanks with more than
one compartment, each compartment shall be provided with manhole. Manhole shall
have a lockable lid cover with gasket and locking mechanism.
Manhole shall have a clear opening more than 650mm diameter. Each manhle should be
provided with a set of one internal and one external access ladders.

C. Base Frame
1) Tank should be provided with steel footing as recommended by tank manufacturer
for size and shape as below
The materials of steel footing shall be coated by hot dip galvanized and it is not allowed
coated by powdered spray and painted.

2) Assembly
1) All panels are basically bolt assembly as to the below drawing.
2) Base frame and tank body shall be fixed to concrete base to prevent vibration and
breakaway from the concrete caused by earthquake and wind using bolt.
3) Anchor: Apply at least one anchor per tank side(Width and Length)

2) Application of Internal Tie Rod

① Tie rod minimizes transformation of shape of a tank (below 1% transformation of
the height of the tank) and extend durability of a tank

3) Application of Roof Support

① PVC roof support shall be erected each 2mtr. interval from side panel,
partition panels and next support.
② PVC roof support shall be penetrated by Tie tods(Internal reinforced tank)

E. Internal Support Bar(U shape, L shape, O shape)

Irregular shpe tank shall be used at the location where space is limited. U shape, L shape,
and O shape tank can be installed. In case of concrete column obstruction, the tank shall
be designed with an opening to accommodate the concrete column inside the tank with
a minimum clearance of 400mm around the column. Access ladder is required in
the column for manitenance

F. Sealant
Sealant shall be PVC material. And the material shall be harmless and flexible for
expected life duration of the tank and prevent water leakage
Sealant should not be allowed to protrude our of joints hindering thereby the cleaning
process aiding dirt accumulation and allowing tear off.

G. Bolt, Nut and Washer

Specification of bolt applies to KS and its diameter shall be above 10mm.
It's 8 nos of bolts per linear meter but only roof panel connecting is 4 nos of bolts per meter.
1) Internal and water contact part : STS316/A4 grade or STS304 by Customer option
2) External part : HDG coated (Specified in KS B 1002) Bolt/Nut/Washer
3) Connecting internal & external part : Bolts/nuts for connect internal and external parts
shall be Stainless steel 304 materials with EPDM Rubber(or Plastic) headed cover
to prevent corrosion caused by chlorine gas.

H. Ladder
Ladders shall be loaded resistant to access tank
1) Internal access ladder : Each water tank of more than 1.5mtr depth shall be permanently
equipped with rigid internal ladder of FRP or STS304 by customer requirement.
Internal : FRP Material or STS304 (20mm*30mm*1.2T)
2) External access ladder : Each water tank of more than 1.5mtr depth shall be permanently
equipped with rigid external ladder of Hot Dip Galvanized material capable of withstanding
prevailing weather conditions.
External : Hot Dip Galvanized Steel (32mm*32mm *1.8T)

I. Water Level Indicator

Tanks of depth 1.5m and above shall be equipped with clean tube type water level indicator
per compartment.

J. Air Vent
At least one air vent shall be installed per water tank. Vents shall be designed to prevent
ingress of dust and foreign materials into the tank inside.
Air vent shall be ABS materials(molded) with insect prevent net(PE) and application
shall be one per each 30㎡

K. Fittings
Tank to be provided with all necessary piping connections of size and location
as each tank's requirement by customer
Below Φ50mm : Brass casting Socket type
Avobe Φ65mm : PVC Flange type

L. Concrete Foundation
Tank shall be erected on concrete basement for durability and convenience of
installation and maintenance. The strength of concrete base shall be at least 180kg/cm²
and flatness surface.
The contractor shall construct foundation as at least 300mm width and 500mm height
before start to tank assembly

M. Other Directions
1) General outlet and fire fighting outlet shall be located in different level for fire fighting
water to be stored all the time.
2) Water tank shall have proper space for fittings and electrode.
4) Name plate must state Operation instructions, specification, water capacity, manufacturer's
and the date of completed erection the tank

N. Test and Inspection

1) After erections, tanks to be filled with water to the level of overflow and left to stand
for 24 hours. During this period no drop in water level will be allowed.
If any signs of dampness or trace of leakages are noticed the contractor shall repair
and re-test the tank to the entire satisfcations of the engineer.
