Answer these after you have finished Step 1!

1. Why is it important to learn about different genocides throughout history? link to website here
By learning about different genocides, we can identify a genocide when it happens, instead
of letting it go on with no action being taken against it. We can prevent more deaths and
instead work on banding together.

2. Why do genocides still occur today, even though we know how to identify them?

Genocides still occur today because people have a sense of cultural superiority. They think
that what they are doing is right and assume that they are better. This is very untrue.
Everyone is equal. But by failing to believe that everyone is equal, genocides occur.

3. Go to this website, look through a genocide occuring today. Which genocide did you look at
AND what is something that could be done to help stop it (think the preventative methods with
the 10 stages)?

One genocide that is happening today is the genocide in Palestine. Something that could be done to stop it is
rapid and overwhelming armed intervention. Real safe areas our refugee escape corridors should be
established with heavily armed international protection. People should support the people getting killed, not
the ones killing.

4. Based on what you’ve seen, why is it that ordinary people (i.e. non-extremist groups or people
that aren’t from military backgrounds) are often the ones contributing to genocide?
