How to assemble the toy

1. Sew the head to the body.

Take a long thread of the head colour and tie a big knot on its end. Find the centre
of the head and match it with the centre of the body. Start sewing them together stitch
into stitch. Stuff the area of the neck tight in the process.

15
2. Tighten the eyes

16
3. Embroider the eyelids.
Make one stitch with a thread of body colour above each eye.

17
4. Embroider the whites of the eyes.
Make one stitch with a thread of white colour at the bottom of each eye.

5. Embroider the eyelashes and the eyebrows.

For doing it, I separate the thread of Yarn art jeans yarn into strands and use only
one of them. Embroider the eyebrows at the level of Row 12 of the head.

18
6. Sew the nose and the ears to the head.
For sewing the nose choose the top and the “peakiest” part of the nose by eye. Sew
the nose to that part. Do not stuff.
Sew the ears at the level of Rows 18-29 of the head. The distance between an eye
and an ear should be 5-6 sc.

7. Embroider the spines

Explanation: For working the spines I use 2mm crocheting hook, but for your
convenience you can take the hook of the bigger size (2.5mm). It is necessary to start
working the head from the back of the neck. Fasten the thread there and keep working
the head with sc (do not work sc into every stitch, miss 1-2 stitches in between). First,
determine the boundaries of the spines: on the neck at the back, behind the ears, on the
head at the front between Rows 7 and 8. Then work in spirals filling gradually all the
area within the boundaries. The distance between each spiral row should be
approximately 1 sc. It is not necessary to count the stitches while working the spines,
insert the hook where it is convenient for you, work by eye.

19
Your hedgehog is done!

Overalls
Row 1: Cast on 57 ch, join into a circle. Then work in rounds (DO NOT work neither ch
at the beginning of the row nor sl st at the end of the row!)

20
Rows 2 – 16: 56 sc (15 rows)

Then work the bridge and start shaping trouser legs. Each trouser leg consists of 28
stitches. Keep working:
Cast on 14 ch, miss 28 stitches, insert the hook into the 29th stitch, work 28 sc
along the trouser leg and 14 sc along the chain (42).

21
Work 7 more rows with 42 sc, sl st. Cut the thread, hide the end.

Work the second leg in the same manner. Insert the hook into the place that is
shown on the photo, work 1 ch (count it as the 1st sc), work 27 sc along the trouser leg
and 14 sc along the other side of the chain.

22
Work 7 more rows with 42 sc, sl st.

Turn one trouser leg out and fasten it this way with a few stitches (use a sewing
needle). Do the same actions with the second trouser leg.

23
Sew the button. Work the strap (60 ch). Sew the strap through the both ends to the
back of the overalls, fasten it with the button at the front.

24
Mushroom
Stem (use yarn colour №03)
Row 1: 6 sc in mc
Row 2: 6 inc (12)
Row 3: (1 sc, dec) х 4 (8)
Row 4: 8 sc
Fold the piece into two halves and work 4 sc through the both sides. Cut the thread
leaving a long tail for sewing.

Cap (work with yarn colour №70)

Row 1: 6 sc in mc (6)
Row 2: 6 inc (12)
Row 3: (1 sc, inc) х 6 (18)
Row 4: 18 sc
Fold the piece into two halves and work 9 sc through the both sides. Cut the thread
leaving a long tail for sewing.

25
First, sew the cap to the stem of the mushroom, then sew the mushroom itself to
the overalls. Fasten it at three places (at the bottom of the stem, at the top of the cap and
at the place where the cap is sewn to the stem).

Leaves
Cast on 6 ch, turn the piece, start from the 2nd stitch from the hook:
sl st, 1 sc, dc inc, sc, sl st, 1 ch, keep working along the other side of the chain -
sl st, sc, dc inc, 1 sc, sl st. Cut the thread leaving a tail.
Work the second leaf in the same manner. Tie the both leaves together and tie them
around the button.

26
Dress
Row 1: Cast on 25 ch, turn the piece. Insert the hook into the 2nd stitch from the hook
and keep working back and forth rows. Start each row with 1 ch.
Row 2: 24 sc
Row 3: (sc inc) x 24 (48)
Row 4: 48 sc (48)
Row 5: 2 ch, 48 dc (48)

Row 6: Start shaping the sleeves in this row: 7 sc, 4 ch, miss 10 sc, insert the hook into
the 11th stitch, work 14 sc, 4 ch, miss 10 sc, insert the hook into the 11th stitch and work
7 sc (36)

27
Row 7: 36 sc

Row 8: Shape the skirt: (hdc inc) x2, 3 hdc inc, (hdc inc) x2, 3 hdc inc – work to the end
of the row (84)
Rows 9 – 15: 84 hdc (7 rows)

28
Row 16: Ruffles: 4 ch, miss 1 stitch, sl st into the next stitch, 4 ch, miss 1 stitch, sl st
into the next stitch – work in this manner to the end of the row.
Do not cut the thread, keep working: work one side of the dress with sc, make the
first strap (36 ch). Tie a knot at the end of the strap, cut the thread.

Now work the second strap: first, work 36 ch, then join this thread to the other side
of the dress and work it with sc. Cut the thread, leave the end.

29
Sew the dress at the back at the level of the last six rows, use the thread end that
have been left.

Collar
Join the white thread as it is shown on the photo.
Work the first row into the stitches on the neck of the dress: 4 sc, 1 hdc, dc inc, 1 tr,
tr inc, 2 tr, dc inc, sl st, dc inc, 2 tr, tr inc, 1 tr, dc inc, 1 hdc, 4 sc.
Turn the piece and work the second row: 1 ch, 2 sc, 1 hdc, dc inc, 2 tr, (tr inc)x2,
(dc inc)x2, 1 dc, 1 hdc, sl st, 1 hdc, 1 dc, (dc inc)x2, (tr inc)x2, 2 tr, dc inc, 1 hdc, 2 sc,
sl st.
Cut the thread, hide the end.
You can iron the collar so that it would lay evenly on the dress.

30
Apple
Row 1: 6 sc in mc
Row 2: 6 inc (12)
Row 3: (1 sc, inc) х 6 (18), sl st.
Cut the thread, leaving a tail for sewing.
Sew the apple to the dress. Embroider the twig with yarn colour №70. Sew the leaf
(work it in the same manner as the leaves for the overalls).

31
Bow
Row 1: Cast on 31 ch, join into a circle. Then work in rounds.
Row 2 – 7: 30 sc (6 rows), sl st.
Make the bridge and sew the bow to the head with a leftover end of the thread.
