Operation Sindoor- Redefining India's
Policy Against Terrorism

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, constituted a watershed event in India's development of a
new counter-terrorism approach, reflecting precision, professionalism,
and unshakeable national determination. In the aftermath of the heinous Pahalgam terror
attack that took 26 innocent civilian lives, this measured, tri-
service response reflected India's resolve to be accountable as well as its ability to dismantle
terror networks through firm action. The action was not just a retaliatory strike but a
strategic utterance, reshaping the boundaries of Indian policy against cross-border terrorism.
Operation Sindoor had its origin in the imperative to react to the unprovoked and barbaric act of terrorism
in Pahalgam. With conclusive proof pointing towards terror groups based across the Line of Control,
India felt duty-bound to react. The mission was clear: to systematically take apart the
terror infrastructure that had been a consistent threat to national security.
This involved a carefully orchestrated, non-provocative but firm action that aimed at the perpetrators and

Precision Air Strikes: The Indian Air Force (IAF) launched precision air strikes on identified terror
infrastructure deep within enemy territory, which revealed sophisticated capabilities and intelligence-
driven targeting.
Maritime Supremacy: The Indian Navy exercised maritime supremacy by deploying its Carrier Battle Group
to secure an aggressive air defense umbrella and deny hostile aerial penetration from the sea.
Border Vigilance Security: On the ground, the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled several attempts
at infiltration across the International Border, showcasing unparalleled vigilance and
operational readiness.
This coordinated, multi-domain response underscored years of investment in defense readiness and the
strategic acumen driving India's contemporary military doctrine.
Most importantly, Operation Sindoor
also demonstrated India's skill at managing escalation. In response to initial strikes,
Pakistan launched retaliatory drone and unmanned combat aerial vehicle
(UCAV) strikes, as well as unprovoked shelling of civilian pockets. Yet these efforts were fully foiled by
India's layered air defense system and an Integrated Command and Control Strategy (ICCS),
which enabled real-time detection of threats and interception. India's
response was disciplined, following the doctrine of "equal intensity in the same
domain," thus preventing further attacks and not escalating matters unnecessarily. This
calibrated strategy conveyed a clear message: India has the capability and the intent to defend its
sovereignty and people, but it is steadfast in de-escalation once it fulfills its aims.
