~ is the movement of goods and people from one area to another . Goods are referred to as cargo or
freight and people are passengers.

~ the type of Transport or modeof transport depends on the availability of transport, costs ,
convenience, , speed or efficiency and the distance to be travelled, weight of cargo

FACTORS INFLUENCING TRANSPORT

1 RELIEF ,- it's economically difficult to construct pads, railway lines and pipelines on characteristically
mountainous areas because of costs and time involved in cutting through the mountains.

~ low lying areas such as passes or gaps are used to cross Highlands.

2 POPULATION

~ Goods or cargo and services need to come to.populated areas. Roads , railway lines link places where
people live.

3. TYPE OF GOODS

~ characteristically perishable goods need air or road transport to be transported quickly to vonsumers.
Agricultural produce are transported from one area to another using different models of transport.
Flowers are characteristically perishable and are transported by air transport to Europe.

~ characteristically bulky goods eg coal mineral are transported by rail and road transport

~ industrial raw materials are transported by road transport using haulage trucks
